Taking the Mafia to the Magic World
Chapter 1105: Start of the Search for the CompanionsChapter 1105: Start of the Search for the Companions
After arriving at the Inviting Isles and leaving the town where his group’s boat was, Vicente continued his journey for a few days.
He noticed some individuals following him at first, watching him from afar as he made his way under the guide he had got earlier. But none of these individuals dared go further than watching him from afar until they gave up whatever they were planning.
In his mind, Vicente imagined that locals from the last city, where he had killed and then brought dead back to life, had followed him to understand the specialist who had passed through that day. When they realized he was dangerous or that he wouldn’t cause trouble in the city again, they left. Or no, that was just his theory.
In any case, Vicente wasn’t interested in trouble with locals. The group that was now guiding him had gotten involved with his companions and that was why they had ended up in the situation they were in now. Other locations unrelated to his companions’ situation were of no interest to Vice. As long as they didn’t act directly against him, he was willing to ignore much of what he saw.
Because of this, he was quite relaxed during the first few days of his journey. He was already strong enough to be considered an expert even without having to show his strength, while the initial days of his current journey were fairly monotonous, apart from the moments when his observers were on the move.
With the departure of the observers and pursuers from the previous city—he thought—things only got quieter, with the journey moving swiftly towards its end.
According to the group’s chief guide, the city where they would find more concrete clues as to where his companions were was just another day’s journey ahead. As he stopped once again on his journey, Vicente worried about hearing more details from his minions about what lay ahead.
Talking to the undead or someone without a soul, dominated by his electromagnetic powers, was not at all fun, but Vicente had grown accustomed to these beings’ method of communication over the last few days.
After an hour of conversation, standing in a small camp in the middle of the forest they were passing through, he understood better what had happened.
After falling into the hands of a pirate crew—the one that had been destroyed with the fall of their leaders to Vicente in the previous city—Larissa, Rex and Lyra had been held captive until they reached the island. Then they were sold in a slave market in the city where Vice was now heading.
What had happened to the three was not something the undead could say. After selling the three, they left without looking back. But from the experience and knowledge they had accumulated in life, they estimated that there were two most likely destinations for the trio. Either to be living as slaves for someone powerful or influential on the island, or to be already dead.
There was the possibility that the three of them were together, but that was the least likely. What was more likely was that they had been separated, which would lengthen Vicente’s journey to reunite them—if they were still alive, of course.
That was a problem, but Vicente wasn’t fazed by what he discovered. According to his minions, the Inviting Isles had many different beings and was one of the most diverse places in Anicane. It was possible that finding the three of them wouldn’t be difficult and that there might even be room for him to buy back his friends’ freedom.
The city ahead was famous throughout the island for its rich trade and all kinds of products, where resources and power spoke louder than anything else.
He tried to remain optimistic as he rested for the few minutes he had before getting back on the road for the last night of the journey.
A Sorcerer like him didn’t need much rest, but Vicente had learned many things in his years as a magician. He was used to making stops to distract his mind from the main objective and gather surrounding information, which eventually had always proved useful to him in past experiences.
At stops, even quick ones, he could learn about the mineral composition of different areas, the type of creature prevalent where he passed, but also the presence of unique plants and essences. His current senses were superb and he not only learned this but also about the local strength, now having a better idea of the average and maximum level of the beings of the Inviting Isles.
The peninsulas were really powerful and the average cultivation was at the beginning of the 8th stage—close to the maximum power of Light Cay, for example. Meanwhile, the maximum level should be at the end of the 9th stage.
Transcendents shouldn’t be common in Anicane. They were practically legends and much more related to the Hell and Argardus than to this world. So even though the Inviting Isles were strong, there shouldn’t be magical beings that strong there.
But Vicente was on his guard. Having almost been caught by a Transcendent before, he didn’t discount the possibility of coming across others from this realm on his way, whether on the Inviting Isles or anywhere else in Anicane.
After ’resting’ and checking out the terrain not so far from the city where he could find Larissa, Rex, and Lyra’s clues, he set off with his undead and the man who he had taken control previously. Letting them take the lead, Vicente made his way to the rear, his gaze calm and focused, even under the observation of the natives of the area he was passing through.
But even the most curious animals would not get in his way, leaving him the chance to complete his journey to his destination without having to get involved in any trouble.
In the next few hours, Vicente would finish his journey and enter the largest city on the main island, where he would find answers to some of his questions!
