Chapter 1145: 1145 Baby Witches

Ivan David Noxus was an incredibly deep sleeper, Wolfe noticed as he went to check on Cassie and Ella the next morning.

Everyone else was up, and the girls were making happy noises from their bassinets. But not Ivan. He was out like a light, with a small smile on his face.

“Is he on a different sleeping and feeding schedule? If you’re still tired from the last time he woke up, you can go back to bed.” Wolfe offered.

Cassie gave him a concerned smile. “I think we should talk to Vlad instead. He’s only fed half as many times as the girls, which doesn’t seem normal.”

“That’s easy enough. It’s not like vampires actually sleep.” Wolfe agreed, then opened a small portal to ring for attention at the Noxus main house.

The one who answered wasn’t Vlad, but the vampire woman whose home on the Polar Continent had been destroyed. She had taken a payout, as the home was one she had simply moved into a century earlier when she found it abandoned after the war.

So, without an attachment to the property, she had chosen to move in with Vlad, who had sent her to the Castle.

“Your Majesty, how might we help you today?” She greeted through the small portal opening.

Wolfe expanded it to the point where they could pass through and smiled at her. “Good morning. We actually have some questions about Magi children that none of us have the answers to.

The oldest boy is sleeping much more and eating far less than his sisters on his first night.”

From the shadows, Vladimir stepped forward, then set the book he was reading on an end table.

The old man shrugged. “Well, he is your son.”

Cassie glared at the ancient vampire, who realized he was going to have to give more details.

“The changes that a Magi makes to his body to enhance strength, endurance, caloric efficiency, and even mana attunement, are all applied to the Y chromosome.

In short, Magi sons tend to take after their fathers, so it’s not uncommon for them to need very little food or sleep unless they’re burning energy using magic. But that won’t start for quite a few years now.

Unlike Witches who awaken with puberty, Magi will gain the ability to control mana more slowly, and they won’t be able to form their first mana core until after eighteen. Before that, they will be able to use very little magic. Just enough to understand the concepts in training.”

“So, you’re saying that young Ivan has inherited his father’s love of sleep, as well as a reduced need for food, while the girls are average for Witches?” Ella asked, slightly disgruntled about being not only the mother of twins, but twins that eat more than Cassie’s son.

“So, you’re saying that because she has a son who inherited his father’s adaptations, she has a child that sleeps most of the way through the night from day one, and he only feeds every four hours, but will be healthy with that?” Ella complained.

Vladimir nodded. “That is right. It’s an unfortunate disadvantage to twin daughters, but yours are adorable, those bright blue eyes, just like their mother. And with their advantages, they will be incredibly powerful when they grow up.

There will be no weaklings in the Royal Family, that is for certain.”

“Advantages?” Ella asked.

“Well, they have magic users on both sides of the family, which is an advantage of its own. But they also have blessings from the highest and lowest planes, so they will have even more magic than would be considered usual for the daughter of a Saintess.

It might be unconventional magic, but probably not as strange as if they had been sons. Magi with otherworldly blessings tend to be a bit… odd.” Vlad explained.

Everyone turned to look at Wolfe, who simply shrugged. “I don’t think that it’s the otherworldly blessings that made me odd, I was already there.”

The vampires both chuckled at that, and Vladimir did his best not to comment. He had been updating Wolfe’s memory crystal from the stories he had obtained, and it was already a wild ride, but it had only just started.

A thousand more years of him was going to keep a full-time historian busy.

“Well, at least we know that there likely isn’t anything wrong with him. We had already checked with healing magic, and Fae magic, but we couldn’t find anything. That’s why we asked for your referral, as you’re the only one alive who knows what might be normal for a Magi baby.”

“Might I hold the little one?” Vladimir asked, with a gesture toward the twins.

Ella nodded and carefully handed over the dark-haired one. “This is Maria. Oh, she likes you.”

The small girl was staring directly into Vlad’s eyes with a surprising sharpness, given that she wouldn’t have great eyesight yet, even with the healing spells. That didn’t develop until later.

The Vampiress nodded. “It’s the red. Red is one of the first colours that children can see, and there is no bright red in this room. So, his eyes are the first thing she has spotted that isn’t grey scale.”

Ella smiled. “Oh, that makes a lot of sense. No wonder they like the Succubi maids better. I thought that it was something to do with their magic.”

Vlad laughed. “No, that is their magic. The girls can see the eyes, but babies love lust demons, they all feel warm and cuddly to a baby because the lust becomes non-sexual. It also becomes hard to fire succubi maids when you have children because it works both ways, and they don’t want to be separated from each other.”

Cassie sighed and looked at the side door, where there was a staff bedroom.

“I think it’s too late, the succubi are already enamoured with the children. I don’t think that they’re going to want to let them go, and you should see them together. I didn’t think that they would make such good nannies, but they really do.”
