Chapter 1144: 1144 Ivan Noxus

The group sat in their suite for two hours as the tension built.

The room was soundproof, and Wolfe was too busy being cursed in his mind by a pair of angry Witches who blamed him for their current condition to listen to anyone else’s thoughts.

But then half the mental assault faded, and he knew that Cassie’s son had been born.

“If I’m not wrong, Ivan David should have just entered the world.” Wolfe informed the others.

“Congratulations Papa Wolfe. Now, two more to go, and the Noxus Clan will be properly established, with an heir and a spare.” Khalifa joked, while patting him on the shoulder.

The rest of the Pentacle members present joined in on her laughter.

That was a tradition all over the many worlds. The firstborn was always at risk of being assassinated, or incompetent, at which point they would either be deposed by a younger sibling, or assassinated by someone different.

That wasn’t how the Magi Families worked, though. The leader was simply the most powerful, so the firstborn was a position of honour as the eldest of the generation, but not necessarily the next leader if they couldn’t live up to it.

Mostly because a Patriarch would live for a thousand years or so. If you weren’t powerful enough, the oldest child might not outlive the Patriarch, much less by enough to take over.

Instead, it would be a few generations removed from the Patriarch.

The entire concept was hard for Wolfe to wrap his mind around. He was a King at twenty. It had only been a few hundred years since the great war, so if there was still a living Noxus Patriarch from the last generation, he wouldn’t have taken over, and he would be an old man before the previous family head was ready, by which point there might be another candidate to lead the Family.

It was better not to think about that right now, as the twins were coming, if the thoughts that Ella was shouting into Wolfe’s mind were correct.

Ten minutes later, the twins were out.

[Twin Girls. Maria and Calypso. You should see them, they are so beautiful.] Ella informed Wolfe.

He would see them soon, but he sensed that there was something that the ladies were all hiding from him. He could feel the restriction on the bond that only happened when they were actively trying to keep him from seeing their thoughts.

He would find out soon enough. Once everyone was recovered and the children were fed and cleaned, they would bring them out into the main room with a barrier around them, so no germs could get at the newborns during these important first hours.

Healing magic, and the blessings they had surely received from the various Saints and Overlords in the Castle should keep them healthy, but traditions were traditions for a reason.

Coming out into the world had to be hard on the system.

The first to come out was Cassie. She was wheeled out in a comfortable looking padded wheelchair with Ivan, who shared Wolfe’s slightly more tan complexion, though maybe that was just newborn red, and had short black hair on his head, with shockingly golden eyes.

That was unexpected. Magi didn’t have gem coloured eyes, as a general rule. But among the Witches, only the more powerful women did.

“What are you thinking?” Cassie asked as Wolfe smiled down at his son.

“I was thinking that he would be more wrinkly. Aren’t newborns kind of wrinkly?”

Cassie began to smile, then giggle, then outright laugh.

“That’s true for human children. But it’s a short-term issue, easily solved with a bit of healing magic to ensure he’s in perfect health.”

She wrapped the little one back in his blanket, and gave the room a tired smile.

That was all the socializing she was up for. Healing magic had made it safe to get out of bed, but she had no intention of being awake for any more than a feeding in the next few days.

The maids took her to a bedroom, and Ella was rolled out with a little one in each arm.

One had black hair, and one had blonde, which would make it easier to tell them apart, Wolfe realized.

He had worried they would be identical girls, and that he would be the target of eternal pranks as they pretended to be each other.

But once he had a better look at them, he realized that would not be a problem.

One was touched with the power of the Lowest Planes, the other with the Holy Energy of the Higher Planes. If his children came out with wings because he had been messing around with foreign energies, Ella would never forgive him.

He stepped close to the barrier and smiled down at the girls. Then, four uncannily sharp gemstone blue eyes turned to stare at him, perfectly matching their mother’s, and tiny smiles lit up their faces as he felt tiny hungry tugs at his magic.

He let a trickle flow to the two girls, and for most of a second they seemed to glow in black and white light, then they sighed and settled down into their mother’s arms, asleep.

“We are going to have a very long discussion about this, Wolfe Noxus.” Ella whispered.

“They are adorable. But I will be nearby all night, in case they get fussy.” Wolfe replied, equally quietly.

He was also going to tweak the mana gathering array to leave a bit of mana that would match their preferences, instead of all the refined magic that it usually put out. If they really were hybrids, they would need an environment with at least a little of the energy of the planes they were attuned to.

They had a Witch’s eyes, though. It was hard to tell, but Wolfe thought that they looked a lot like Ella as well, so maybe he could blame their magical peculiarities on a blessing by extraplanar beings.

That would be best. Better than claiming responsibility anyhow.
