Yang Yi spent the entire night sailing, blasting apart three or four icebergs. However, even up until dawn, he did not encounter any more Pale Worms.
It seemed that the living icebergs were quite rare, and their earlier gathering was likely due to the lure of the giant Bobbit Worm's head.
As morning broke, Yang Yi was so exhausted he couldn't stop yawning.
He anchored the ship, activated the Twilight Veil to hide its presence, and then returned to the captain's cabin to rest on the bed.
Five hours later, Yang Yi woke up.
He checked his attribute panel and saw that his vitality was almost fully restored, but the frostbitten areas still hadn’t healed, itchy and painful.
The frostbite was concentrated on his face, hands, and feet, showing purplish-red sores.
At the same time, he noticed a message from Suna: "Come to the witch's lab when you wake up."
"Is her cold better?" Yang Yi opened the crew interface and found that Suna's status had changed to "Mild Cold", which didn't seem to affect her mobility anymore.
"Looks like the holy water worked," Yang Yi thought to himself. He stepped out of the captain's cabin and found that the Nightmare Star was still in stealth mode and hadn’t moved.
However, the wind seemed even stronger, with fine ice particles mixed in, and the gusts thoroughly woke him up.
As for the ice particles, they were likely formed when seawater splashed and froze in the air, and when they hit his face, they stung a little.
Yang Yi looked towards the sea and saw that the floating ice had become more abundant. Large sheets of thin ice often appeared but didn’t hinder the ship’s navigation.
He checked the weather.
Today's Weather:Bone-chilling winds, reduced fish catch rates. Please keep warm.
Location: Northern Sea of Origin (Extreme Winter Sea)Remaining Daylight: 3 hours Temperature: -18 to -10°CWind Force: Level 4
"The minimum temperature is minus 18 degrees. Just how cold must it be inside that white mist?" Yang Yi frowned deeply.
He wasn’t wearing a down jacket at the moment, and the cold wind seeping through the gaps in his collar made him feel a chill.
"Looks like I need to buy a scarf", he muttered.
He pulled out a crystal ball and used the Scrying skill to check the coordinates of the Gale.
【The target is in a special area and cannot be located.】
"Have they entered the white mist?" Yang Yi speculated.
It was likely that the Gale’s captain, Xu Da, had waited for his crew members to gather before venturing into the white mist region together.
Based on his earlier calculations, the Nightmare Star was still about three days away from the white mist.
Afterwards, Yang Yi turned to enter the cabin and noticed some changes inside.
The corpses of the Pale Worms were significantly fewer, likely taken by Suna.
Not far away, the door to the witch’s lab was tightly shut. Inside, there were loud sizzling sounds accompanied by occasional explosive pops, like oil being overcooked.
Yang Yi paused at the door for two seconds before pushing it open, only to be hit with a faceful of irritating gas.
“Cough, cough! Suna, what are you doing?” Yang Yi shouted painfully, using his right eye, which was watering from the fumes, to glance inside.
Suna, wearing a gas mask and a white lab coat, was standing on a small stool. She was stirring the liquid in a cauldron with a wooden stick.
It was the witch's cauldron that had been there before. The liquid inside was near boiling, and the tentacles of the Pale Worms could be seen rolling within.
“Extracting oil?” Yang Yi finally understood.
The firewood beneath the cauldron was burning fiercely, making the temperature in the witch's lab over ten degrees warmer.
"Ah-choo!"
Suna sneezed and noticed Yang Yi.
She hopped off the small stool, grabbed a bottle of white liquid from a nearby shelf, and walked towards him.
"Let’s talk outside," Suna suggested.
Yang Yi couldn’t agree fast enough.
Suna removed her mask, and the two of them entered the cabin. After closing the door to the witch's lab, the irritating smell finally dissipated.
“Don’t worry, the gas isn’t toxic. It’s just a bit unpleasant,” she explained.
Yang Yi glanced at Suna and noticed that her complexion had improved significantly.
“Here!”
Suna handed something to Yang Yi.
“What’s this?”
“The white one is oil extracted from the worms. It works great for frostbite and burns. Apply it yourself,” Suna explained.
“As for this powder, remember to ignite it before consuming. Let it burn for five seconds before swallowing.
Make sure it’s exactly five seconds — not less, not more than ten seconds, or it won’t work.”
Yang Yi accepted the items and received the following information:
【Name: Pale Worm Oil】【Type: Consumable】【Quality: Premium】【Description: Refined oil extracted from Pale Worms. Flammable, odorless, and effective for treating burns and frostbite, as well as preventing cracking.】
【Name: Unknown Potion】【Type: Consumable/Potion/Unique】【Quality: ???】【Description: A powdered potion wrapped in oil paper. Its effects will be revealed once consumed.】
“Light it on fire before eating?”
Yang Yi found it hard to believe.
“Can you explain?” he asked, sensing the mysterious nature of the item and its potential danger.
“It contains an extract of the Rabid Wolf Virus. But don’t worry; burning it for five seconds will deactivate the virus entirely, rendering it non-infectious. So just follow the instructions when consuming it,” Suna reassured him.
“Uh…what happens if I consume it properly?” Yang Yi asked nervously.
“It should make you more agile.”
“Should?”
“Yes, should!”
“Can you be certain?”
“No, but I’m always meticulous!”
“And…what happens if I eat it prematurely or without lighting it?”
“Then you’ll instantly transform into a werewolf. That, I can guarantee,” Suna said with unwavering confidence, clearly proud of her creation.
What the heck!
Yang Yi silently cursed but maintained a calm exterior.
He had already categorised the potion as a “must-never-consume item,” placing it alongside the orange potion he had received earlier.
After pocketing the two items, Yang Yi prepared to leave.
However, before departing, he asked one more question:
“If I turn into a werewolf, is there a cure?”
“No. Other than extreme heat, I haven’t found an effective way to kill this super-virus,” Suna replied.
“Got it,” Yang Yi said and left the cabin, heading back to the captain’s room.
Once inside, he took off his shoes and gloves and began applying the Pale Worm Oil to his frostbitten areas.
To his surprise, it worked remarkably well.
The itchiness disappeared immediately after application, replaced by a soothing, cooling sensation.
He applied the oil to his face, hands, and feet in turn.
“Suna, do you think this oil could also be used to make incendiary bombs?” he messaged her.
“Of course!
This oil is highly flammable. Once it catches fire, it’s nearly impossible to extinguish with water!” Suna replied.
“How much oil can you extract?”
“With boiling, settling, and separating…I estimate about 800 litres,” she responded.
“That much?” Yang Yi was astonished.
But considering the size of the Pale Worms, this quantity wasn’t actually excessive.
Moving forwards, whenever he encountered Pale Worms, he would devi turn them all into oil!
