Yang Yi applied grease to the frostbitten areas on his body, feeling much better afterwards.
Leaning in to sniff it, he noticed a pleasant aroma that wasn’t overpowering, then put on his shoes and sent a private message to Suna.
"By the way, I’m about to make some bread porridge. Want some?"
"No thanks!" Suna immediately declined.
"You’ve got a cold. Eating something warm is good for you."
"Your cooking is terrible!"
"Really?" Yang Yi scratched his head.
He thought it tasted fine — after all, he had eaten most of the pot himself.
To verify the claim, this time he didn’t take the appetite-enhancing potion and made only a small amount of porridge before tasting a spoonful.
"Bleh!""How could it taste this bad?"
Yang Yi’s face darkened.
He finally understood why Suna had looked so pained back then. It wasn’t because she was unwell, it was because the porridge was awful!
"Seems like adding Sichuan pepper oil to bread porridge was a bad idea!"
Yang Yi reflected deeply on his mistake but still ate the porridge in the end.
He didn’t want to waste it.
Glancing at the time, he saw there were still two hours until sunset — which was just enough time to cast a few lines and test out his newly acquired Pale Worm Fishing Rod.
The rod guaranteed a catch with every cast, even in the Extreme Winter Sea.
Finding a spot sheltered from the wind on the ship’s deck, he began fishing. He cast the line, and the pale worm at the end arced through the air before plunging into the icy waters.
What would he catch?
Yang Yi was filled with anticipation.
About half an hour later, the rod reacted, and the reel spun rapidly.
With a quick tug, he pulled a fish onto the deck.
It had four legs, a slender body, a sleek streamlined form, and intelligent eyes.
It was...a Long-Legged Sardine!
"Seriously?!"
Yang Yi couldn’t hold back and slammed the rod onto the deck.
"Not again!"
Looking up at the sky, he felt a palpable sense of malice — was he cursed?
Could the first catch of the day always be a Long-Legged Sardine?
No way!
Yet, until nightfall, Yang Yi failed to catch a second fish. Without the rod’s special ability, he would have gone empty-handed.
After packing up, Yang Yi skeptically checked the fishing net and pulled it up.
It was empty except for some scattered bits of ice.
In the Extreme Winter Sea, the fish yield was greatly reduced, and fishing nets were practically useless.
Relying on fishing for food? Not a chance you’d survive for long.
Sighing, Yang Yi browsed the chat channel and spent some money to buy two scarves.
【Name: Velvet Scarf】【Type: Treasure】【Quality: Fine】【Description: A warm and windproof scarf. It covers your neck and face, providing great comfort.】
Initially, he wanted a waterproof scarf, but none were available on the market, so he settled for this.
The purchase cost 2,000 Shell Coins.
Yang Yi placed them in Suna’s room for a day before resuming his journey, steering the ship towards the White Mist.
...
Two days later, Suna fully recovered from her cold.
In about a day, the Nightmare Star would enter the White Mist region.
The temperature had dropped further, reaching -22°C.
The two resumed their alternating night watch schedule — Suna taking the first half of the night, Yang Yi the second.
It was a safer arrangement, though it left no energy for physical training.
During these days of fishing, Yang Yi caught a new species.
A peculiar sea urchin, lured by the Pale Worm.
【Name: Ice Urchin】【Description: A unique sea urchin tainted by Abyssal pollution. Found only in icy seas, its translucent shell is formed by secreted bodily fluids solidifying. It is delicious, non-toxic, and perfect for eating raw.】
At first, Yang Yi didn’t dare to touch the peculiar sea urchin directly, so when he used two sticks to pick it up, he finally obtained its information.
"This is good stuff! Time to try something different!"
He melted the Ice Urchin using a torch and extracted the soft, pale blue roe within.
Yang Yi tried a bite — it was sweet, fresh, and melted in his mouth.
He saved half for Suna and ate the rest himself.
That afternoon, Yang Yi blasted apart an ice block and discovered a Pale Worm hidden inside.
After firing a few more shots to confirm it was dead, Yang Yi dragged the worm into the ship's hold.
Compared to the previous two Pale Worms, it was much smaller, but it could still yield about 300 litres of oil.
By evening, Yang Yi returned to the captain's quarters to rest.
As usual, he browsed the world chat channel to check for updates.
Most of the messages were meaningless complaints about the cold or the lack of fish, which Yang Yi glossed over.
Resource prices had risen slightly, especially for wood, since it was needed for both heating and ship repairs.
Food prices, however, had doubled.
Fishing yields had plummeted, and most players' food supplies were running low.
Yang Yi wasn’t worried. The Nightmare Star had plenty of food and a decent stock of wood.
After a while, finding no new information about the White Mist, he rolled over and fell asleep. He would need to take the second half of the night watch.
A nightmare descended.
Just like before, he was burning, transforming into a man made of flames. His skin and flesh crackled, emitting a charred aroma of grease.
The terror of being burned alive took a heavy toll on Yang Yi’s psyche.
Suddenly, he felt a hand touch his forehead and woke up in shock, grabbing it instinctively.
"You were having a nightmare."
The voice belonged to Suna.
She had somehow slipped into his room and was standing by his bed, her hand on his forehead.
"I'm fine," Yang Yi replied, relaxing as he let go of her hand.
He glanced at the hole in the wall, realising she must have climbed through it.
The captain’s quarters could only be unlocked by the captain, and he distinctly remembered locking the door.
"You’ve been having nightmares constantly! If it’s just one or two nights, it won’t matter much. But if this continues, you’ll go mad!" Suna said seriously.
"Don’t worry. If anyone’s going mad, it won’t be me," Yang Yi said nonchalantly, sitting up.
Suna didn’t share his confidence.
In her eyes, Yang Yi’s mental state was already deteriorating, even if he didn’t realise it himself.
"You should drink some of this. It’ll help you sleep," she said, handing him a vial of deep blue liquid. It was stunning, resembling a flawless sapphire.
【Name: Sleeping Potion】【Type: Consumable/Potion/Unique】【Quality: Rare】【Description: A potion uniquely created by Witch Suna. Made with holy water and the bile of juvenile Pale Worms. Drinking it induces a dreamless sleep, restores +20 sanity, and increases sanity recovery rate by 50% for the duration of the sleep. After drinking, you’ll feel very drowsy.】
"This is..." Yang Yi was surprised.
He hadn’t expected Suna to create such a potion.
And holy water? Where had she even gotten that?
"Drink it," she urged.
"No thanks. I just woke up," Yang Yi declined, preparing to get out of bed.
"Actually, this potion can also be injected directly — it works better that way," Suna murmured as if to herself, rummaging through her bag.
Yang Yi froze for a moment before taking the Sleep Elixir from her.
"Don’t forget to activate the Twilight Veil," she said before leaving.
With that, Yang Yi downed the potion.
It was smooth and unexpectedly sweet — though overly so, to the point of being cloying.
He hadn’t imagined potions could taste sweet.
Surprised, Yang Yi soon felt a wave of drowsiness wash over him and fell asleep again.
