【Name: Pale Worm Fishing Rod】
【Type: Gear】
【Quality: Fine】
【Description: a fishing rod that generates a small pale worm as bait every day. The worm actively seeks a target to latch onto, ensuring a 100% catch rate, often bringing up peculiar items. The bait is effective only for the first fishing attempt each day. When you're skunked, the Pale Worm will come to your rescue!】
Yang Yi picked up the bizarre item.
Its appearance was quite ordinary — plain white. However, at the end of the fishing line dangled a living, wriggling, small pale worm, identical to the one wrapped around Yang Yi's pinky finger.
"Never miss a catch?"
Yang Yi was tempted to try it out, but his current state was far from ideal, as he needed rest.
His face, hands, and especially feet, were frostbitten, dark purple, and cracked. Moreover, he had a wound on his back where he'd been bitten, leaving his flesh mangled.
Even after drinking a regenerative potion, his vitality had only recovered to 62.He found a suitable spot to dock the Nightmare Star and unfurled the Twilight Shroud.
There were no enemies nearby, so the ship wouldn't be attacked.
Ten minutes later, the Nightmare Star entered stealth mode.
From the outside, the ship and crew appeared to vanish, cloaked within the Twilight Veil.
After ensuring everything was in place, Yang Yi walked to Suna's door and knocked.
"Suna, mind if I sit here for a while? The wall in my room still isn’t fixed."
"Come in," she replied.
With her permission, Yang Yi entered, glancing at Suna.
She was curled up in her blanket, her cold seemingly nowhere near recovery.
Yang Yi didn’t disturb her but instead grabbed a chair, reclined comfortably, and prepared to nap for a while.
The previous night’s battle had drained his energy to zero; he'd only managed to stay conscious thanks to his vitality.
Since his energy barely reached 20, he decided to rest for a bit and deal with things after he woke up.
A few hours later, Yang Yi woke up, albeit slowly.
Checking the time, he realised he’d slept for about nine hours, meaning night had become day.
The sleep quality had been decent; his energy recovered to 83, and vitality to 92, though his frostbite still lingered, now itchy and uncomfortable.
Yang Yi stood up, ready to set sail.
"Suna, do you want something to eat?" he asked suddenly, but there was no response from her.
Walking closer, he noticed her breathing was laboured — her condition had worsened from a simple cold to a severe one.
"She drank holy water, so why did her cold worsen?"
Yang Yi was baffled.
Fortunately, Suna’s vitality and energy were still above the safety line, so resting in a warm environment would help her recover.
He didn’t wake her but left the room quietly.
In the captain's cabin next door, the skeletal arms tirelessly repairing the ship had nearly finished the job, although the ship’s appearance had slightly changed.
The previously wooden walls were embedded with bones — apparently, the zealous arms had used parts of their own kind as materials.
However, that didn’t matter; the ship was fixed, which was what really counted!
Yang Yi tested the cabin and found it was much warmer than before.
The repairs had consumed 207 units of wood, 52 units of fabric, and 92 units of stone.
The Nightmare Star’s durability loss was reduced to under 2,000, and the skeletal arms would patch up what remained using their own parts.
Yang Yi resumed the ship’s journey, then retrieved the pot left behind. He moved the campfire from the atrium to the bow of the ship, lit it, and began cooking a hot meal.
First, he poured fresh water into the pot and tore up black bread to throw in.
After heating and stirring for a while, he added some dried fish, sausages, salt, and a mildly numbing liquid.
With limited seasonings on board, Yang Yi simply added whatever he could grab.
After the mixture boiled, a pot of half-assed stewed porridge was ready.
Yang Yi scooped out a serving for Suna, woke her up, and encouraged her to eat it for a faster recovery.
The remaining porridge was naturally his share.
He drank a bottle of Appetite Enhancing Potion and, without minding the heat, devoured the rest of the porridge, achieving a "well-fed and hydrated" status.
After eating, he resumed steering the Nightmare Star forwards.
While at the helm, Yang Yi organised the information he had on the Pale Worm, planning to sell it to a major news agency at the right time.
Once ready, he sent a private message:
"Brother Song, are you awake? I’ve got monster intel to sell."
Almost immediately, the other party responded.
"Send it over quickly!"
Yang Yi forwarded the prepared information in one go.
The other side remained silent for over ten seconds before replying:
"My sanity dropped by 20 points. Let me smoke a cigarette to calm down..."
Smoke?
Yang Yi was a bit surprised.
He asked out of curiosity and received an explanation.
The cigarette was a specialty of the New World Fleet Farmer, rarely sold publicly and available only to a select few players through limited channels.
It was a consumable item with effects that restored sanity and sped up sanity recovery.
"If you’re interested, I can help you contact Shen Guanquan. He likely won’t refuse a potential customer with your promise."
"No need, I don’t need something like that — I was just curious," Yang Yi politely declined.
"Your picture is too grotesque. I’ll have to mosaic parts of it and add a warning for players with low mental resilience to proceed cautiously."
After reviewing all the intel, Song Yingwen sent back a message.
Yang Yi didn’t mind; after all, he was just selling information. As long as he got paid, it was fine.
"A creature curled up in the ice layer...
From the description, it seems to only attack passing ships. If someone is on deck and caught off guard, survival chances are slim...
This intel is very detailed. I can offer you 8,000 Shell Coins for it."
Yang Yi's eyes lit up.
It was much higher than the prices offered before.
Sure enough, having photos made a difference!
Yang Yi decided he should take more pictures in the future.
Unless something unexpected happened, the information about the Pale Worm would be published in the following issue of the weekly under the alias "One-Eyed."
Yang Yi earned 8,000 Shell Coins.
After handling this, Yang Yi sent Suna a private message:
"Is your cold any better?"
The message disappeared into the void, receiving no response.
It seemed Suna had gone back to sleep after finishing the porridge.
Yang Yi checked the crew panel again.
Suna's stats were stable, except for her lingering cold.
Until she recovered, Yang Yi could only continue steering the ship.
Since it was still nighttime, he didn’t dare fish recklessly.
He kept the Nightmare Star moving forwards.
Whenever he encountered large ice floes along the way, Yang Yi would stop and fire a cannon shot at them.
Better safe than sorry — he didn’t want to risk encountering yet another living ice creature disguised as a Pale Worm.
