Chapter 3660: Apologize Quickly
Lu Yin’s words caused Jiu Xian’s pupils to shrink, and she blurted, “Are you planning to use Yue Ya to deal with the High Seraph?”
Lu Yin looked away. “I never said anything like that.”
Jiu Xian stared blankly at Lu Yin. She realized that this man had never once been afraid of his cooperation with Yong Heng being exposed. If things happened once or twice, Yue Ya might not notice, but there was no doubt that the people of the Spirit Nidus would see the truth. This was because the timing of Lu Yin’s arrival in the Roaming South Realm and Yong Heng’s visit to the Wisdom Domain were too close to be a coincidence.
In fact, the two visits were so timely that it was impossible for people to not notice the connection.
Yue Ya only had a few tools left in the Spirit Nidus after losing Emperor Wu. If he learned the truth of the matter and was still determined to target Lu Yin, then the Lesser Sancte would have no choice but to take personal action.
However, had Yue Ya noticed? It was possible that he had, but it was also possible that he had not noticed anything yet. This was not because he was stupid, but rather because he was not personally present in the Spirit Nidus, which left him unaware of many things. There were times when the information that he had access to was actually leading him away from the truth.
Lu Yin leaned back in his recliner. Working with Yong Heng was going very well.
Not once had either man mentioned drawing Yue Ya out, but the final outcome was unavoidable: Yue Ya had to enter the Spirit Nidus. If he did not, who would disrupt the High Seraph’s plans?
First and foremost, Lu Yin and Yong Heng were concerned about their own safety.
Before Yue Ya appeared, they needed to avoid the spotlight. If they were noticed, Yue Ya might not target the High Seraph, and then there would be nowhere for Lu Yin or Yong Heng to run.
They would not underestimate the wrath of a Lesser Sancte after being toyed with.
Jiu Xian showed a bitter smile, and then she guzzled a great deal of wine. “What a twisted mind.”
Qing Yun and Qing Xiao were both dumbfounded, and even Yuan Qi, who was quietly watching from a distance, was terribly confused. He did not know what the Nine Odysseys Megaverse was, though the man did understand from a few words that Lu Yin had said that he was plotting against the High Seraph.
The High Seraph was unbeatable. Was it possible to outmaneuver him? He was powerful enough to simply obliterate everything.
Wisdom and strength had continuously clashed throughout the ages, and the battle was unfolding once again in vivid detail.
In the end, the answer of whether wisdom could control strength or if strength could simply ignore wisdom would be provided by the High Seraph.
"You're really not leaving?" Lu Yin asked again.
Jiu Xian looked exhausted. "No."
She then snorted. "Why would I leave if I’m here to keep an eye on you? Why don’t you just have Yong Heng give me Feng Bo and save me some trouble. For that, I might even be willing to help you with something."
"For example... drag your Lady Dan Jin into the fray?"
"Keep dreaming."
Lu Yin had a headache. So long as Jiu Xian was present, he would not be able to accomplish much in the Roaming South Realm. As she had said, his presence alone was not enough to drag Dan Jin into the competition as Yue Ya was able to directly contact Dan Jin in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.
So long as Lu Yin remained in the Roaming South Realm, he should be focusing on removing karmic bricks, but how could he do that with Jiu Xian watching him?
He had to drive her away.
Lu Yin did not want to go anywhere, as any movement on his part could easily draw attention.
Still, how could he drive Jiu Xian away? This was her home.
Right! Lu Yin’s eyes lit up, and he looked back at Jiu Xian. There was a rather mysterious and inexplicable smile on his face, and it gave Jiu Xian a sudden chill. What was going on?
It did not take her long to realize the source of her chill. Nian Xian, the shameless bastard, had made an unexpected appearance.
She stared at him in a daze. "You're still alive?"
Lu Yin had imprisoned many people in his Champions' Stage Purgatory, almost all of whom were incredibly powerful cultivators. There were even a few who were strong enough to have competed for the title of Seraph.
Many people had questioned whether the experts Lu Yin had defeated were alive or dead, but no one could find any answers. This was because no one that Lu Yin had captured had ever appeared in public again. There had been no traces of even Sage Qian.
Emperor Wu had once asked if You Xia was still alive, and Lu Yin had answered yes. Still, no one had been able to retrieve any of Lu Yin’s captives from him.
Jiu Xian had believed that Nian Xian was gone forever, so it shocked her to suddenly see him again.
Nian Xian spread his arms open wide and took a deep breath of the fresh air. When he finally opened his eyes, he did not focus solely on Jiu Xian and instead stared up at the stars. Finally, he was free. He had emerged alive, and freedom felt absolutely incredible.
He could not resist letting out a loud shout in an entirely unseemly manner.
Qing Yun and Qing Xiao were both gaping. Was this really the elegant Nian Xian? While the world regarded Nian Xian as a shameless man, he had always maintained a certain level of poise in front of Jiu Xian and never lost his composure. What could have happened to prompt this sort of reaction?
No one could comprehend the terror of the Champions' Stage Purgatory. Without experiencing it firsthand, the torture was indescribable.
After Palace Master Yao was imprisoned in the Champions' Stage Purgatory, she had agreed to serve as Lu Yin’s maid as soon as she was released.
After Sage Qian was released from the Champions' Stage Purgatory, he had revealed everything.
Suffering in the Champions’ Stage Purgatory had caused Feng Chengzhu to stop caring about even death.
Yu Shan preferred the prospect of being taken by the High Seraph, and likely being killed, to ever again returning to the Champions' Stage Purgatory.
Nian Xian was no different.
He had witnessed the trials of life, and had experienced countless events. Things had reached the point that Nian Xian could no longer even determine if what he experienced was his own past or not. The man was on the verge of madness.
Fortunately, Lu Yin did not keep his prisoners continuously confined within the Champions' Stage Purgatory. If he had, given the time that they had been his captives, even the High Seraph would have gone mad.
After voicing his frustrations, Nian Xian was finally able to calm down. He looked down from the sky and took in his surroundings, instantly fixating on Jiu Xian. The man’s expression changed, and an ingratiating smile spread across his face. It was so familiar, and seeing it sent chills down Jiu Xian’s spine. Every time Nian Xian saw her, he showed her this smile. “Jiu dear, you’re back!”
Jiu Xian’s scalp tingled, and she shot Lu Yin a vicious glare. “Why did you release him?”
Lu Yin blinked. “He said that your bond is completely unbreakable. I don’t feel right just leeching off of you and offering nothing. I felt that a bit of compensation was in order.”
“You!” Jiu Xian fumed.
The obsessed Nian Xian walked towards Jiu Xian with swift, yet graceful, steps. His movements looked practiced, as there was an unmatched elegance to them. “Jiu dear, I’ve suffered much, waiting for you. I fought at the Umbral Deep for your sake. Look, the two siblings have made it through unharmed. The Third Boss promised that he would take care of them. Don’t believe for a moment that I was captured by the Third Boss. No! I willingly sacrificed myself in order to secure these two’s safety.
"Jiu dear, do you understand how I’ve suffered for you?"
Qing Yun and Qing Xiao were dumbfounded by the shameless words that the man was spouting. It had been clear to everyone that Lu Yin had captured him.
Yuan Qi looked away, unwilling to even watch. How could any Dukkhan demean themselves in such a way? This man was supposedly in the process of developing a sequence technique known as the Four Waters Immortal, but did he even deserve to have such a thing?
Jiu Xian took a step back, warily eying Nian Xian. "Stop! Don't come close."
Nian Xian immediately stopped and showed a warm smile. "Of course. If you want me to stop, I'll stop. If you want me to leave, I'll leave, Jiu dear. As long as it will make you happy, I can do anything!"
Jiu Xian ground her teeth. "Scram and stay far away. Never let me see you again."
Nian Xian replied in a tone that sounded both betrayed and offended. "Why? After all these years, do you still not understand my feelings for you? You love drinking, and so I've scoured countless universes of the Spirit Nidus, even seeking an audience with the High Seraph in order to find an opportunity to sneak into the Apex Palace and steal their wine. The High Seraph nearly beat me to death. I even considered infiltrating the Wisdom Domain, but their spirit treasure formation is rather difficult to deal with. I've visited the Primal Beastland and the Phantom Reach’s nearby headquarters. If I had managed to find the entrance, I would have gone to Heavenspire as well.
"Every year, I purchase all of the fine wines put up for auction throughout the Spirit Nidus. I’ve proven my feelings for you to the heavens and earth, Jiu dear. For you, I can..."
Lu Yin was close by, and he listened in astonishment as Nian Xian spoke endlessly of his love for Jiu Xian. Each and every word came straight from the man’s heart, and even an outsider like Lu Yin was moved.
There were very few examples of such steadfast love among cultivators. In fact, Lu Yin had never encountered one.
Both of the two were powerful Dukkhans, and given their strength, just how many years had Nian Xian’s obsession lasted? Wait, could this be his Dukkha?
Lu Yin stared intently at the man.
Jiu Xian's expression changed. Even wine had lost its appeal at this moment. "Shut up."
Nian Xian stood there, his mouth hanging open as he froze in the middle of speaking. He looked rather comical.
Jiu Xian took a deep breath. "Did you say that you would do anything for me?"
Nian Xian promised, "Anything."
"Alright, kill him for me," Jiu Xian coldly demanded, pointing at Lu Yin.
Lu Yin arched a brow as he looked at the woman. "Repaying my kindness with ingratitude?"
"How shameless!" Qing Yun could not stop herself from glaring at Lu Yin. "Repaying kindness with ingratitude? Who doesn’t know that Jiu Xian despises Nian Xian? She even fled to the war in the Consciousness Megaverse to get away from him! You deliberately let Nian Xian out just to infuriate her!"
Nian Xian sighed. "Jiu dear, how can you repay kindness with ingratitude? The Third Boss is such a wonderful person: selfless, magnanimous, devoted, and willing to sacrifice himself for everyone. He is free from desire for mundane pleasures, and he possesses a noble character and many charming qualities. You want me to kill him? No matter how I care for you, you really must be reasonable. Jiu dear, quickly apologize to the Third Boss."
Jiu Xian was dumbfounded. "Apologize?"
Qing Yun and Qing Xiao were similarly stunned.
What? Selfless? Magnanimous? Noble character? Charming qualities? Was that even a description of a human? Was that really supposed to describe the Third Boss?
How was this anything more than pure flattery?
Nian Xian’s heart was trembling. While he truly cared for Jiu Xian—or to be more precise, she really was his Dukkha—he could not afford to offend the Third Boss any further, not even for Jiu Xian’s sake. Crossing that man was courting death. The terror that Nian Xian had experienced in the Champions' Stage Purgatory was so bad that he never wanted to experience it ever again. If not for the conditions that the Third Boss had given for Nian Xian to be released, he would have fled, even if Jiu Xian had a sudden change of heart and admitted to caring for Nian Xian. He wanted nothing more than to get as far away from the Third Boss as possible.
Lu Yin gave a small smile. Kill me? I dare you to try it. Nian Xian was released under the condition that he chase after Jiu Xian, pursue her, watch her, and cling as close to her as possible, never letting go. If he doesn’t, he’ll return to the Champions' Stage Purgatory.
Lu Yin’s conditions perfectly matched Nian Xian’s own desires, so he had agreed without hesitation.
Nian Xian was genuinely terrified of Lu Yin. Anyone who had been subjected to the Champions' Stage Purgatory would fear the man. There were no exceptions.
Jiu Xian had no idea what Nian Xian had experienced.
"Jiu dear, be good and apologize to the Third Boss," Nian Xian begged. He was being sincere, as he was terrified that Jiu Xian might also be imprisoned in the Champions' Stage Purgatory, and that was a fate worse than death.
Jiu Xian clenched her jaw. "Go to hell!"
"Do you wish to die together? To be buried in the same grave? Jiu dear, is this your way of expressing your love? How come I never understood it before? It’s wonderful, Jiu dear! You've finally accepted my feelings! Wonderful! Here, let me recite a poem for you! I’ve spent years composing it!
"Ah, the vast heavens and earth and my heart become one, shooting towards your heart. Our hearts are connected..."
Jiu Xian could not stop herself from running away. She simply could not stand this man at all.
Nian Xian instantly gave chase. "Jiu dear, don’t be shy! This poem is quite long. Listen as I slowly recite it to you for the rest of my life! Jiu dear!"
The valley was suddenly silent.
