Chapter 923: DING!

Quinlan clenched his jaw, shoulders twitching as he managed to get the words out through gritted teeth. “I’m level 40…”

His gaze then shifted toward the ceiling, becoming even more unimpressed. “Soul Records, are you kidding me? I grinded the damn cultivation stages like a man possessed. Peak of Spirit Tempering, I perfected my style, became an Avatar-level combatant! I’m confident to say that I became even stronger than her, so then why didn’t I get a single ding?! Not one! No level-ups! No XP!”

The four women turned to him in perfect sync with equally flat stares. Just by a mere, passing look at the man, his swirling elemental eyes, his aura of extreme power… and they could all tell how strong he became as a result of his trial, yet here he was, bitching about his lack of XP.

It was almost comedic how rehearsed their collective side-eye looked.

But then…

[DING!]

A soft chime sounded in all of their minds, followed by a new system window opening across all five of their visions.

[The Primordial Entity Quinlan Elysiar has received numerous rewards for completing the Primordial Rank-Up Mission.]

[Bottomless Greed is the province of gods.]

There was a pause in the ominously decorated castle room.

Then Mearie and Luminara both paled. Visibly.

“Did… did the Soul Records just respond to Quinnie?” Mearie asked slowly, as if saying it out loud would make it make sense.

Luminara, for once, was completely frozen. “It never speaks. Not unless…”

She trailed off.

Serika blinked multiple times with great confusion, unaware of the gravity of the situation that had just happened. “Was that… rare?”

“It chided him!” Luminara muttered, staring at Quinlan like he was some sort of divine misbehaving child. “The Soul Records just chided Quinnie!”

“Like a parent who caught their child with his hand in the cookie jar…” Mearie added in a daze.

Feng, meanwhile, was grinning. No, smirking. Radiating smugness like a cat that just watched the family dog fall into a pond.

“Finally, somebody told you no. I can’t help but wonder, will your giant ego be able to take this?” she asked, looking absolutely delighted.

Multiple veins throbbed on Quinlan’s forehead.

The Soul Records message still glowed innocently in his vision.

Feng’s smirk only grew wider as the pair conducted a silent staredown between one another that stretched on for a long time, silent and intense.

Feng’s expression remained cocky and unrepentant throughout it all, her bright eyes daring him to snap. Quinlan, on the other hand, was utterly still… too still, in fact. That dangerous kind of calm that said trouble was brewing.

Another vein bulged.

Then…

*Whoosh!*

The air split.

Feng didn’t even have time to blink, much less widen her eyes. One moment she was sitting smugly with an elegant glass of wine between her fingers, the next… she was seated squarely on his lap, legs dangling off his thigh like a stunned doll.

“Huh?”

She didn’t get to finish the thought.

“Let’s see how smug you are now, you damned brat,” Quinlan said, his voice rich with villainy, an evil grin stretching wide across his face.

Then his fingers darted toward her sides.

Feng exploded like a firework.

“S-STOP! Y-you dumb bastard!” she howled, writhing like a fish out of water as Quinlan’s hands mercilessly tickled her ribs and waist. She twisted, flailed, kicked, and shrieked… all to no avail.

“Behold! This is the fate of those who dare mock the Primordial Entity Quinlan Elysiar!” Quinlan declared with a booming, theatrical laugh, sounding far too much like a true villain mid-monologue. “Tremble, mortal! For I am your ruin!”

Mearie and Luminara almost instantly both burst into bright, melodic laughter at the sight, their faces glowing like warm lanterns in a storm. Mearie wiped a tear from the corner of her eye as she beamed. “Oh dear, did we make a mistake?” she asked aloud, nudging Lumi beside her.

“About what?” Lumi asked, blinking away giggles.

“About assuming Feng was going to be our future daughter-in-law… I mean, just look at those two…” She gestured to the scene, where Feng squirmed like a deer caught in the cruel jaws of a hungry wolf, flailing her limbs helplessly as Quinlan held her in place with the same ease he’d command a battlefield.

“They’ve got so much sibling energy!” Mearie went on wistfully, sighing with a happy heart as she watched the adorable little drama unfold.

Lumi’s eyes sparkled with a dawning realization. “That’s true… we already have so many daughters-in-law, and the pace with which Quinnie falls for new and horribly unhinged women means we’ll have many more… perhaps it’s time we had an actual daughter instead.”

At that, both primordial mothers tilted their heads in unison, their gazes turning hazy and strangely emotional as they looked at Feng with newly formed hearts in their eyes.

“I mean, wouldn’t she be perfect?” Lumi murmured.

“So fierce! So cute! So stabby!” Mearie chimed.

“Get off of me, you rude motherfuc-!” Feng shrieked with tears of laughter pouring from her eyes as she tried and failed to elbow her captor. Well, she managed to land many hits, but Quinlan’s sturdy body didn’t even flinch.

Seeing the great gap between her and her torturer, Feng knew she had to change her tactics, so she looked around the room. “Mothers! Serika! Help me!!”

Lumi and Miri were far too gone to do as asked, marveling with bubbly hearts at the sibling torture session. These kinds of homely situations were exactly what they were longing for during their millennia-long exile in the primordial realm. Thus, it’d take a long time for them to do anything to stop it.

Serika, meanwhile…

She had been just about to scroll through her available spells, curiosity bright in her eyes… but the scene before her arrested her thoughts and tore a wide, surprised laugh free from her lips.

The redhead’s chiseled abs were rising and falling thanks to her amused laughter. “Now that they say it… Those two really do act like siblings.”

The way Feng thrashed like a deer in a snare, and the way Quinlan looked like he was enjoying every second of it—the sadistic wolf tormenting his prey—was too much.

And the way Mearie and Luminara were practically drooling at the idea of adopting her only made it worse.

Shaking her head in disbelief, Serika stopped browsing her system interface for a moment as she just leaned back in her chair and watched the scene with a big grin adorning her lips.

Although the Solar Fist didn’t recognize it, she watched Quinlan with a different kind of smile now. An incredibly gentle and awed one.

’He really did find himself an incredible family,’ she thought inwardly, her eyes lingering on him. “Mothers who adore him. Bonds that feel like home.”

And this…

This was just the beginning.

She bit her lip as she glanced toward the high ceiling of the vampire castle.

“I can’t wait to meet his eight lovers. They must be fun people.”

“Arghh!!!”

A few meters away, Feng was still flailing helplessly, laughter wrecking her voice as Quinlan showed no signs of mercy.

“W-wait!! I yield!!” she gasped between shrieks, tears running from her eyes.

“Yield? This is not an official duel, Feng Jiai. There’s no referee here to save your smug little ass as soon as you feel like tapping out. I’ll stop when I feel like it,” Quinlan echoed darkly, his grin absolutely feral now.

He leaned closer, voice dropping like a predator toying with its food.

“So tell me, what class did this rude little brat of a girl get, hmm?”

“I’ll tell you! I swear I will!” Feng screamed, squirming. “JUST STOP THIS TORTURE!”

“Hmm…”
