Chapter 1085: 1085 The Library Is Open
The flood of Witch Saints into the library was more than Vladimir was prepared for, even if he was pleasantly surprised that he wasn’t in trouble for keeping the Patriarch away from his pregnant wives for an entire month.
That had to be a terrible decision, even if he didn’t know that the Witches were pregnant when Wolfe settled into the Library to study. It wouldn’t matter that neither of them expected the research session to have taken that long, but they should have arranged a timeframe so that it didn’t get out of hand.
When you got immersed into a Knowledge Crystal with massive amounts of data on it, you could be lost for quite some time before you would return without a reminder.
Fortunately, the Library had magical countermeasures that would keep your body in a state of virtually suspended animation, so you wouldn’t suffer while you were working.
At Wolfe’s power level, that wasn’t even necessary. Food was a culinary delight to him when that much of his body was sustained by magic. He could eat twice a year and be fine.
But for the Witches, Vladimir checked up on them every two hours for the next day before Wolfe came back with a pair of Succubi who were on the brink of becoming Overlords.
The Vampire looked at the trio. “While I do admit that your dedication is admirable, was it necessary to have them both advance in a day?”
Rail just shrugged. “He’s got an amazing amount of power, and it’s addictive. If we weren’t curious about what was going on in the Library, we might have advanced in the bedroom.”
Nimue laughed. “Maybe now you’ll be less grumpy. When are you going to advance?”
“Aren’t you too young to be thinking like that?” Dana, the Incubus King’s daughter, asked.
“You’re like five years older than I am.” The hybrid replied, rolling her eyes.
That was true. She was thirteen to Dana’s Eighteen, but the fact that she was half Dryad meant that her body didn’t grow at the same rate as her mind, so she looked much younger.
Vladimir walked away and checked on another group of Witches, to make sure they didn’t need anything while they were researching, and to keep them from getting fully lost in their reading.
The library’s catalogue was accessible from any of the reading chairs, so there was no need for them to get up, and they were becoming quite comfortable.
Cassie and Ella stole Rail and Dana’s spaces at Wolfe’s side, while the Succubus pair looked around in excitement.
Wolfe cleared his throat. “Before we do anything else, do you have a spot here for advancements? Both of them are going to advance within minutes, and I didn’t want to disturb the city with more promotions when they’re still in recovery mode from the last batch.”
“Of course. There are comfortable advancement rooms with specialty arrays on the floors to aid in smooth advancements. They’re not made for a Succubus, but they should be sufficient.” He offered.
He led the duo away, and Wolfe inspected the gathering.
“I should give you all some background on what I need to do next. There might be a surviving Magi ritual location in the mountains, where the final spell of the war was cast.
I don’t know if there is anything left there after the human armies nuked it, but it should be the perfect spot to reach the King Rank, and I’m going to be there much faster than I think most people expected.” Wolfe explained.
“Seriously? You’ll reach the King Rank so soon?” Cassie asked.
“Yeah, I just need to form my ninth core, I’ve got everything else in place now. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last month. As it turns out, when you can look at a collection of reference books, it’s much easier to advance.”
He heard laughter from behind him, and noticed Vladimir had returned.
“Don’t take his opinion too seriously. For the rest of creation, reaching the King Rank is no easy feat. He is right, though. It is the best place for him to go to advance.
As long as there is something left there of the defensive arrays, it should keep his advancement from causing too much chaos in the world.
Even if there isn’t, the fifteen of you Saints will be enough to keep his overflowing aura from causing a catastrophe if he’s not properly attuned to the world.”
Ella gave Wolfe a suspicious look. “So, how bad is the disaster going to be?”
Wolfe shrugged. “We will see when we get there, but I think that I can get myself fairly well attuned, even with all the changes that have been made to my mana cores.”
Ella sighed. “Yep, we need to do this in the middle of the mountains. But once that is done, the real fun is going to start. A new King isn’t going to go unnoticed, and even King Petros will take it as a direct threat to his power.
Our people say that there’s already unrest in the Fallen Empire now that they’ve discovered the new world of Mages, as well as us. People are looking for alternatives, and if worlds start trying to break away and make new alliances, it will be civil war.
Then there are the nonhuman Kings. Most of them get along with you, but that might not last if they think you’re trying to steal their top people, not beg for assistance.”
Wolfe sighed. “You’ve been busy while I’m gone.”
Ella poked him in the forehead. “Someone needs to think about the international and interplanetary repercussions of your actions, and clearly it isn’t going to be you.”
Vlad chuckled. “You picked well, Patriarch Noxus. They know you very well.”
“Not even you are on my side here?” Wolfe complained as the vampire laughed.
“Sorry, she’s funnier than you are. Plus, she’s right. You need to worry about everyone’s reactions to you changing once they don’t have that sense of superiority of being one Rank above you.
Even right now, if you let your aura out anywhere in your world, you can guarantee that there will be a King Rank being of some sort threatened enough to come check it out, if not outright challenge you.”
