Chapter 1034 Decisions Must Be Made

Chapter 1034: 1034 Decisions Must Be Made

Wolfe had been distracted from the responsibility to choose between the Pentacle Candidates for too long already, so he went looking for Cassie and Ella to learn who was where, and which ones could be brought with him for the day.

He also planned to spend time with the other Pentacle Members over the next few days, so he could see the groups that weren’t assigned to him. Between those, he was hopeful that he would be able to find a proper grouping of advisors.

But better than while they were assigned to shadow someone was to catch them during the early and later hours of the day, when they were free to choose what they wanted to do. He knew that Monika, the Dwarven candidate, would be either in the forges or the vehicle workshops, that was not even a question for Dwarves. They couldn’t resist.

But the others were more of a mystery.

As he walked through town with Petros, he kept a watch for the Candidates, to see if any of them were actively trying to meet and help people in town.

“You look deep in thought.” Petros commented.

“I’m wondering which of the Candidates are taking it upon themselves to help the people and get to really know the city, and which are just putting on a good show while they’re tasked to accompany the existing Pentacles.” Wolfe replied with a shrug.

“Why not use that Magi sense of yours to see the hidden and find where they all are right now?” Petros suggested.

“I try to avoid it unless it’s important, or I know roughly where I’m going to find them. Even if it’s easy, it’s still rather rude to peep on people in their own homes.” Wolfe chuckled.

“Understandable. Alright, let me find my own advisors and I will leave you to your fun for the day. They should be in the market, as they said they were going to do a lot of shopping while they were here.

They have requests from their whole extended family to fill, and not just for magical charms, but for exotic foods and the brightly coloured local fashions they heard about.” Petros explained.

Wolfe extended his mana sense to pick out the familiar aura of the King’s advisors, and noticed that each of them was being closely followed by one of the Bunnies.

“I think they’re doing a bit more than average shopping. From what I can tell, they’re all in the inner market, and they’ve all got a porter with them.” Wolfe explained.

“A porter?” Petros asked with a sigh.

“Yeah, one of the local bunnies. Likely pulling a cart or a large delivery pack to hold everything that they’ve bought. They must have sold some of the items they brought with them to get enough money for their shopping spree because I didn’t give them that much.” Wolfe laughed.

“I suspect that many Imperial Gifts will be found in the markets of Forest Grove very soon.” Petros agreed.

It was the most likely way for them to get enough cash to go on a shopping spree. Forest Grove valued magical items for their power and utility, so they could get good money for them, even though the Gem Arrays which made up most of the cost at home were far less valuable here.

In comparison, clothing was cheap, and the people here were both fashionable and flashy in a way that the Fallen Empire’s Nobles were envious of.

It didn’t take Wolfe long to find a couple of the candidates bullying a kid in worn clothing in the market, and he sighed as he made a note of which ones they were.

The real question was: Which ones didn’t? They had nearly all grown up in luxury as the children of Nobles. It was only natural that most of them would see others as Commoners and Servants, but how they viewed Commoners and Servants was much harder to judge, as none of them had been allowed to bring a personal servant with them that Wolfe could have gone by.

But there was an answer right at hand. The staff. One of the Snow Leopard clan girls who worked in the spire restaurant was nearby, so Wolfe flagged her down.

“I have a few questions for you, if you have a bit of time.” He requested.

“Of course, Mister Wolfe. Is it about dinner? I just finished my shift, but we help prep before we go, and the evening special is a Shepherd’s Pie.” She replied.

“That sounds wonderful, but the question I have is about something bigger than dinner. I believe all the Candidates eat their meals in the spire, don’t they? Are there any that stand out as particularly kind or friendly? Any who are mean, like those two who are bullying the merchant’s helper over there.”

The fur on the girl’s ears fluffed up as she heard the word bullying, but the pair had already stopped, and the boy had run away to a shop run by a sculptor from the Fallen Empire.

“Well, the really good ones are easy. Among the humans, Serra and Jessica are both nice. Not like, polite in that stuffy noble stuck up way, but actually nice. Then there is Lucy. She’s nice to everyone, but she likes books more than people, so you don’t see her much. She also eats underground instead, as it’s closer to the Library.

Then among the Fae, Drazzit the Elf and Monika the Dwarf are the weirdest frenemies ever. Like, I think they’re friends, but they’re always making fun of each other while they spend time together. They both hang out in the forges. Khalifa and the Nymph girl Nola with the white hair like to hang out together, and they’re both nice, but I think they might have a fluffy ear fetish.

There’s one other, that Faerie in the blue dress, do you know who I mean? She’s the only one who wears blue. She’s always helping people. I haven’t talked to her, but she’s always nearby when people need help.”

Wolfe smiled and gave her a light hug. “Thank you. That is incredibly helpful. How about we go for a walk, and you can tell me what you’ve observed about new people in town lately. Waitresses see everything.”
