Chapter 2253: Preparation Factor.

It was the Web Hammer who used the spy and the markings on the door, doorpost, and walls of the rooms of the leaders of the gang to predict that assassins would be attacking tonight.

After confirming that things were exactly as they expected, Legion had their Web Hammer control the surviving assassin to kill himself and lift up the web. But they didn’t give up their vigilance.

They didn’t let the fact that they had neutralized an attack make them relax. Their Fast Hammer, who was a traveler and had the Seeking Danger divine ability and was sensitive to danger, was made to patrol the base while their Web Hammer got to work on building a powerful curse object.

The cursed object would serve as the vessel for a curse. By working on the vessel now, she would be able to use the curse when she needs it, and the curse will be very powerful.

This action is similar to how the Web Hammer constructed the Marrionette web in preparation for an attack. The more spiritual energy is invested in the web, the stronger it will become.

Even though they had determined that there was an intruder in the base, they couldn’t find the intruder, much less determine who he was.

Legion swept their whole base with the Mental Probe divine ability, but they didn’t sense the presence of the mind of an intruder.

Their fate weaver couldn’t determine where the intruder was either. But Legion wasn’t flustered because they still had two more cards to play before they were backed against the wall.

They could ask their farwe weaver to bring down the Marrionette web. If the intruder could be touched by a single web, then the intruder can be trapped by the web.

But they didn’t know exactly where the intruder was. So they would need the Fate Weaver to bring down the Marionette Web all over the base. This would cost a lot of spiritual energy and slow down the activation of the web.

In order to conserve spiritual energy, they decided to put their rule breaker into action.

Their rule breaker shouted at the top of her lungs, “Everyone who enters this base always shows themselves. When they show themselves, they will receive 10,000 gold coins.”

They couldn’t see or hear the intruder, but the intruder could see and hear them. So the intruder heard what she said and revealed himself.

What she said was a lie, but the intruder believed it and showed themselves for the reward even though the lie was obvious

When the intruder revealed himself, all that he received as his reward was a mental attack and the entrapment of a large web falling from the ceiling.

After the intruder was trapped, they realized that they had been fooled. So they reactivated their divine ability again and disappeared.

Legion-1 chuckled when he saw this. He said, “This should be an illusionist. This makes the second time that our trick has been used against us.”

The first time that their trick was used against them was last night when two assassins attacked their base to kill the leaders of their gang. This was something that they had done to Mirlo, the leader of the Bright Coin gang.

Legion-11 said to the others. “This begs a question. Was it a coincidence that these two tactics were used against us, or was it intentional?”

Legion-9 replied, “It should be a coincidence. We used assassins and illusionists for assassination and sneaking because that’s what they are good at.”

Legion-7 said in agreement, “If we can come to the conclusion that assassins are good for assassinations and illusionists are good for sneaking around, then others can come to that conclusion too.”

Legion-5 added solemnly, “Then again, I won’t be surprised that someone used them intentionally. If they did, they must have somehow found out how we defeated the two other gangs. That is not impossible to do.”

They were chatting with each other while the illusionist was struggling for his life.

The illusionist had used the rank 4 divine ability called Invisibility to infiltrate their base. This invisibility made the illusionist disappear from all sorts of perception methods. This is why Legion hadn’t been able to sense his mind.

The illusionist had also used a divine artifact with the rank 1 divine ability of the pathway of darkness called Cloak. This muffled the sound that the illusionist made when walking. This made it further difficult to sense them.

This arrangement is why the illusionist had the confidence to infiltrate a base with eight confirmed epic beings. As things turned out, his confidence wasn’t misplaced.

The traveler and the fate weaver didn’t sense his existence either. The illusionist would have been able to sneak around the base with no one the wiser if not for the webs scattered all over the base.

Now that the illusionist had been captured, he became literal meat on a chopping block. They could do anything they wanted to do with him, and he wouldn’t be able to resist.

The first thing they did was to discover his background. They wanted to know where he came from and who sent him.

What they wanted to get was easy for them to get thanks to their farwe weaver. But what they learned made them solemn.

Legion-2 asked the others, “Why is this Sir Kriss investigating us? Didn’t he put an end to the investigation over a month ago? Does he still suspect us of the murder of his daughter?”
