Several months ago, word of the massacre in the ruins of the Dragon Palace spread throughout the Immortal Realm, stirring up massive waves. It was then that the general populace realized that, despite his Immortal King cultivation, Su Yi could kill Great Martial cultivators with ease. He could even fight Great Unity Stage experts!
Thus, the moment the old man with the goatee was captured, he realized who this young man was. He felt a chill in his hands and feet, and he practically broke down.
Without the slightest hesitation, the old man begged for his life. “I admit defeat! I’m willing to make amends for what I’ve done and do my utmost to cooperate with you, Your Excellency!”
The nearby Immortal Kings were flummoxed. Isn’t the high elder… a bit too spineless?
Although they didn’t know it, the old man wasn’t spineless at all. Rather, he had no other choice! This was his only hope of survival.
Every Immortal King beneath the heavens feared and dreaded Jade Firmament Immortal Palace… except for Su Yi. They were not strong enough to kill him, and threatening him was perfectly useless. After all, if threats worked, how could those divine children have suffered such a crushing defeat in the Dragon Palace? And how could all the Great Martial experts of the participating top factions have died brutal deaths inside?
Su Yi smiled. “So... Did I guess right?”
The old man with the goatee nodded, then shook his head. “Your Excellency, Divine Son Jin Zhuliu has already left the Eastern Sea. He hasn’t come to Spiritual Desolation Mountain.”
“Oh,” said Su Yi. “Spiritual Desolation Mountain is covered in Divine Venerate Tian Huang’s Laws of Annihilation. How did you neutralize this power?”
The answer to that was critical. After all, even Lin Feng was so cautious of the Laws of Annihilation that he dared not return to his former home.“Err….” The old man hesitated.
Su Yi waved his left hand through the air.
Boom!!
A dense rain of sword qi poured down from the heavens, and agonized screams filled the air. All of the Jade Firmament Immortal Palace Immortal Kings died brutal deaths on the spot. Fresh blood splattered the air.
As easy as squishing a group of ants!
The old man with the goatee was so terrified that his soul practically left his body. Chills coursed through him.
“Now you can tell me,” said Su Yi. “And you no longer need to worry about others finding out you divulged this information.”
The old man no longer dared hesitate. “Your Excellency, only three members of our sect have actually entered Spiritual Desolation Mountain. Each of them carries a talisman granted to them by Divine Venerate Tian Huang. With it, they have nothing to fear from the Laws of Annihilation.”
He then went on to introduce the three of them. All of them were living fossils of Jade Firmament Immortal Palace, people who’d gone into seclusion during the Age of Fallen Immortals to avoid divine misfortune.
When Jin Zhuliu descended into the Immortal Realm, he brought with him Divine Venerate Tian Huang’s decree. He ordered the forces of Jade Firmament Immortal Palace to explore Spiritual Desolation Mountain, unlock its prison, and release the captive divine emissaries.
Jade Firmament Immortal Palace dared not be negligent. Two months prior, they sent four Great Realm experts, including the old man with the goatee, to lead a group of Immortal Kings to Spiritual Desolation Mountain.
The old man was the weakest of the four, so they arranged for him to protect the entrance. The three stronger Great Realm experts had entered Spiritual Desolation Mountain two months prior.
The strongest of the three was called Wen Chu, and he was at the peak of the Great Unity Stage, just one step away from the Great Profound Stage!
“Two months have passed already,” said Su Yi. “Has there been any word from the three of them?”
The old man shook his head. “According to Martial Uncle Chu, Spiritual Desolation Mountain was one of the most mysterious blessed grounds of the Primeval Era, and it hides unimaginable good fortune. Thus, they decided to thoroughly comb the mountain for good fortune before opening the prison.”
Su Yi laughed derisively. Spiritual Desolation Mountain met with disaster back then. The lackeys of Divine Venerate Tian Huang had destroyed it. Whatever treasures it once held had likely been pilfered a long time ago.
Of course, he couldn’t reject the possibility that some treasures had survived.
Su Yi thought for a moment, then said, “What are you opening the prison and letting those divine lackeys out for?”
“I’m not sure,” said the old man with the goatee. “Apparently, the divine emissaries will follow Divine Son Jin Zhuliu’s orders.”
Su Yi was starting to understand. They’re recruiting assistants for the divine children!
According to Lin Feng, the divine emissaries were all Great Realm experts of the Primeval Era, and some were extraordinarily terrifying.
And Divine Venerate Tian Huang was no ordinary god. It stood to reason that his emissaries were no ordinary Great Realm experts.
Su Yi asked softly, “Is there anything else you’d like to tell me?”
The old man’s heart thudded in his chest. His entire body tensed. There was no doubt about it. His life hung in the balance. If he wanted to leave this place alive, he had to make sure his answer was sufficiently useful to Su Yi!
His thoughts raced, and something suddenly occurred to him. “Your Excellency, did you hear that the Immortal Realm is soon to re-establish the Central Immortal Court?”
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. “I heard.”
The old man continued, “To the best of this old man’s knowledge, the Church of the Pure One is re-establishing the Central Immortal Court for the express purpose of killing you!”
“Oh no.... Anyway. Is that all?” asked Su Yi.
The old man with the goatee had assumed that this news would shock Su Yi, but against all expectations, Su Yi didn’t even react. His heart sank, and he said bitterly, “Your Excellency, please state your conditions! So long as you’ll let me live, I’ll agree to anything!”
“Very well,” said Su Yi. “Tell me where Chu Shentong is. If you do, I’ll let you leave here alive.”
The old man froze, then said, “Your Excellency, no one in Jade Firmament Immortal Palace knows where the founder is.”
Su Yi furrowed his brow. “Truly?”
The old man with the goatee immediately vowed, “I swear on my Dao Heart! If I lie, may the heavens strike me down!”
Su Yi sank into thought. The old man with the goatee was increasingly ill at ease.
Suddenly, Su Yi flipped his palm, and a figure appeared. It was Holy Son Chu Batian!
After capturing him during the Divine Hunt, Su Yi had kept him imprisoned in the Divine Replenishment Furnace. He was still unconscious after all this time.
“Bring him back to Jade Firmament Immortal Palace, and while you’re at it, pass on a message for me,” said Su Yi. “Tell them I’ll be visiting in person soon and that I hope to see Chu Shentong when I arrive. Or else…”
Su Yi smiled and left the rest unsaid, but his meaning was perfectly clear.
The old man’s heart shook, and he almost dared not believe his ears. Su Yi… wants to fight the founder!?
But outwardly, he agreed without hesitation. Staying alive came first; nothing else mattered.
“Go on,” said Su Yi. He tossed the unconscious Chu Batian to the old man.
“Thank you, Your Excellency! Thank you!” The old man scurried off, Chu Batian in tow.
Su Yi watched them fade into the distance, then muttered to himself, “There’s still another three to five years before divine misfortune disappears completely. I can use this time to wipe out some of my past life’s greatest enemies.”
Visions of Wang Ye’s greatest enemies—like the Blood Firmament Immortal Sovereign, Jiang Tai’e, Nan Pingtian, and Chu Shentong—floated into his sea of consciousness.
Of course, even if divine misfortune appeared, Su Yi was now strong enough to contend with Great Profound experts!
Before long, he shook his head, turned, and passed through the spatial rift leading to Spiritual Desolation Mountain.
Boom!
A swath of the misty gray Laws of Annihilation descended, its taboo power enough to deal massive damage to even Great Realm experts. If they failed to dodge in time, they’d be doomed.
But Su Yi just took out the Book of Karma, which blocked its power with ease.
It was just that the impact left the book quivering. It had no choice but to use its Laws of Karma to defend itself, and its pages filled with insults in protest of this inhumane treatment…
Su Yi disregarded its feelings completely and sauntered leisurely through the rift. Space transformed around him, and his surroundings vanished in a flash, like fleeting light and shadow.
When the world came back into focus, Su Yi found himself somewhere else entirely, a battered hidden realm. The sky had split, and everywhere he looked, he saw startling spatial rifts. The ground was covered in gashes, and the earth was so burnt that nothing grew here.
He seemed to have arrived at a devastated, withered, ancient battlefield. The power of Annihilation surged forth like the tides, its gray mist obscuring the dome of heaven. The entire hidden realm was overcast and depressing.
Su Yi looked around, then gazed into the distance at a towering mountain. Its slopes were steep, and it towered into the heavens. Part of it had collapsed, and the rubble lay strewn across the ground. There were massive piles of fragmented rock all over the place.
There was no doubt about it. That was Spiritual Desolation Mountain!
During the Primeval Era, it was a blessed, otherworldly pure land, a place the world’s cultivators longed for even in their dreams. It was also the place where Li Fuyou and his four disciples went into seclusion.
Yet now, it was withered and ruined. There was no longer any sign of its glorious past.
Su Yi couldn’t help but feel a bit rueful. Time changed everything it touched. The lands remained, but the people were different. Everything Lin Feng remembered had long been reduced to burnt earth, a vision of desolation!
He continued ahead with confidence, encountering no danger beyond the surging power of Annihilation.
Before long, he arrived at the foot of the mountain. When he looked up, he saw that its slopes were covered in collapsed ancient buildings, piles of rubble, and broken walls. Practically none of the architecture remained intact.
An extraordinarily terrifying battle must have taken place here. Its vestiges were all over the place, including no small number of fragmented treasures.
How sad would Lin Feng be if he saw this? wondered Su Yi.
He began his way up the mountain, but as he climbed, he didn’t see a single living plant, let alone a treasure. Everything was desolate, and death qi hung in the air.
“Hm?” Halfway up the mountain, Su Yi fixed his gaze on a spot near the cliffside.
A stone stele lay across the ground at an angle.
And a man in a feather coat was seated cross-legged in front of it, cultivating.
Wisps of chaotic power, like a rain of light, surged from the stone stele, enveloping the man in the feather coat. It was an utterly mystical sight.
“Who is it?” The cross-legged man suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze as sharp as a knife as he locked onto Su Yi.
