Eternal Cultivation of Alchemy

Chapter 2486: The Shape of a Man

Alex stared before him with a look of awe and shock. Before him was Godslayer, but something was different about him.

Godslayer was still surrounded by the black smoke made up of Death and Darkness, but there was something more to the smoke now. It had a shape, almost making it take the form of a man.

Alex half-believed he could see the man within the shape—a long-nosed man with slightly closed-in eyes, along with thin lips and a short goatee. The man appeared thin, thinner than Alex, but with about the same height. His hair was nothing but drifting smoke that trailed behind him with no shape.

"You’re awake!" Alex shouted in surprise.

The shape of Godslayer turned his head toward him. "I have drowned in my nightmares for far too long. It is time I take to the surface and face my fears for real."

Alex could somewhat make out what Godslayer was trying to say. "Thank you. Thank you for saving me."

Godslayer shook his head. "You helped save me from what I had become, Alex," he said. "This is the least I could do."

Alex was taken aback by Godslayer’s words. This was very different from how the sword spirit usually spoke. He seemed to have matured since a century ago when Alex last saw him after gathering the Darkness aura from the Ever Dark realm.

The change was too strange for Alex.

The woman stared at the two with great caution. She had felt the force with which she had been struck, so she understood to be careful around the newcomer. Still, she couldn’t help but be morbidly curious.

"You are neither a soul nor a spirit," Dumei said. "What are you?"

Godslayer turned away from Alex upon hearing the question and looked down at himself. A look of sorrow took over his face made of black smoke. "A Soul or a Spirit; I do not know what I am myself."

He looked up from himself and stared at the woman.

"What I do know is who I am. I am Godslayer. I am the reason why darkness clouds your future, and the reason why the only thing left in your fate is death."

"You tried to kill my savior, so prepare to die."

The black smoke around Godslayer coalesced into the shape of a sword that streamed black smoke itself. It had no solid shape, so Alex couldn’t see it properly, but he had a vague feeling that its shape was similar to Midnight.

"Fortify your mind and do everything you can to protect it," Godslayer whispered to Alex. "If you fail to do so, both of us will die here today."

Alex nodded. "Do what you must. Leave the rest to me."

Godslayer charged toward the woman.

Dumei had a look of shock that had appeared in her when she heard Godslayer’s name.

She may have been a demon, but even she had heard of this thing. The being that went around killing gods. During the war, she had heard reports of it appearing in battlefields and killing everyone, demon or human, who was anywhere close to being in the presence of a god.

There were many battles the demon had won solely because Godslayer had arrived and killed a god, causing chaos for the rest of the humans.

She had never seen it herself, but she knew of its might, and she knew of its terror. Today, hearing the name, she had never been more scared in her life, not even when she had died in her physical body.

She had seen her death coming during that battle and knew how she could escape it. However, this time, it was different. This time, she was a soul, which was vulnerable.

And before her was the fabled Godslayer.

"N-no," the woman shouted as she prepared her strongest defensive technique. A layer of energy surrounded her, turning into a white sphere that took the form of a full moon.

The moon formed just as Godslayer arrived right before her and swung his sword down at her.

God Rending Death Blade.

A thick black slash slammed into the defensive moon technique, putting a large crack on it. The woman inside was shaken to her core upon seeing the crack, and shaken even more when she saw Godslayer raise his sword again.

He sent out another slash.

God Rending Death Blade.

The moon shattered fully this time, revealing the woman inside of it. She formed another, faster defensive technique, but it was weaker than the moon. Godslayer smashed right through it as well.

The woman began fighting back, but she couldn’t beat Godslayer. Godslayer was a lot stronger than she was.

Having spent millennia roaming around without a body, and then hopping through four different bodies before coming to Alex had weakened her a lot. Even though she was a Divine soul, she didn’t have its strength.

Even so, until now she had no issue when it came to dealing with Immortals. However, never did she ever expect to meet someone with the strength of a Divinity within them.

And it was because of this that she was going to die.

Alex watched from a distance, standing before his two Origins to protect them. He did all he could to protect his Spiritual Sea, and even so, it shook quite a lot.

The sea below him churned like an ocean caught in a storm, causing large waves to form, some that nearly touched Alex. His Spiritual Sea was barely hanging on.

Any more force from either side and Alex would suffer from long-lasting spiritual damage. Thankfully, they were barely staying within the boundaries. It shocked Alex to see that Godslayer was actually weakening his attacks for his sake.

If not for him, Godslayer would have won long ago.

’How did he become so strong in such little time?" Alex wondered. It was a shocking thing for him to see.

Godslayer continued attacking and pushed Dumei close to losing. She had been weakened a lot, and there wasn’t much she could do now that she was so weak. Except one thing.

"Stop!" she shouted, dashing backward to escape from Godslayer. "If you don’t stop, I’ll kill myself and take that kid along with me."

Godslayer stopped, frowning. Could he stop her? If he wanted to, he most likely could. But that would mean wasting a lot of energy at once in trying to contain her explosion, and that was something he had been trying to avoid this entire time.

His energy recovery speed was very slow, so it would take a long time to get back all that he used up today. He hadn’t been using much until now, but if he was forced to do so.

’I have no choice,’ Godslayer thought. There was no chance he was going to stop when the woman was so close to being dead. If she wanted to kill herself, then all he could do was defend Alex from it.

Protecting Alex meant protecting himself, and he was always ready to do that. Even if he had to waste his energy for it.

He raised his sword for another strike, and– he stopped.

It appeared he had been worrying for no reason at all.
