Chapter 332: Mission Complete.
“YOU ARE LYING!!”
Reynara screamed, red tears came out of her purple eyes as suddenly,
CRACK
The beautiful Everveil sky cracked.
“What…?”
Kael’s expression changed when he saw what happened. He stared at Reynara, wanting to see how she reacted to this, but before he could—
CRACK
He heard a similar sound again.
His body moved on its own as he looked up.
The crack in the Everveil sky widened even further, thin white lines spiderwebbing outward like broken porcelain. Light bled through them—pale, formless, and blinding—shining down onto the world below.
‘Holy…’
Kael wanted to curse out loud.
Soon, however, his fatherly instinct kicked in.
‘Vita.’
His eyes started looking around, searching for his daughter.
Soon, however, he noticed another thing—the grass.
It had stopped moving.
Just moments ago, the wind had been brushing through it gently, making it sway like waves on a lake.
But now…
It was still.
Each blade was frozen mid-drift, locked in its place.
And no, it didn’t happen because the air itself had stopped flowing. No, this was something different—something much bigger.
Kael’s eyes fell on the single leaf hovering in the air, halfway between branch and ground—motionless.
The other golden leaves of the trees, which had always shimmered and danced, had stilled completely as well—
Yes, the entire place was frozen.
Kael looked around, his heart racing. He expanded his senses and for the first time ever since he came to the Everveil, where he could always hear someone laughing or singing, he couldn’t hear anything.
The Kitsune children… the storyteller… the adults lounging beneath glowing trees…
All of them were frozen.
Kael rushed out of the garden, into the room where children were supposed to be together with Vixara—they were all frozen.
Smiles plastered on their faces, eyes half-closed, some mid-step, some mid-laugh—but not a single one moved.
As if they had all turned into statues.
Everything had stopped.
Everything… except Reynara.
Kael once again glanced at her. She still hadn’t moved away from the garden, red tears still sliding down her cheeks. Her chest heaved in fury and pain, her clean white fur trembled as if she was in pain.
It seemed like she didn’t notice the silence that had taken over Everveil.
She didn’t notice the stillness.
She didn’t notice that the world around her was… gone.
Kael’s mouth opened slightly as finally, the realization began to set in.
Reynara wasn’t just the strongest being or the guardian of Everveil.
She… she was its creator.
“Reynara…”
He called her name as softly as he could.
She didn’t answer.
CRACK
The cracks in the sky spread faster now, threads of white light tracing down like vines across the heavens.
Then, with a soundless shatter, the sky broke.
Light spilled down from above, the grass beneath Kael’s feet disappeared, the trees dissolved into mist.
The Kitsune, the flowers, the glowing clouds, the gentle streams—everything unmade itself, breaking apart into particles of soft, silver-white light that drifted upward.
The world became nothing.
A blank canvas of pure white.
A place with no ground, no sky, no direction.
Only the endless white light.
And in this light, Kael stood still, in front of the creator of this world—Reynara.
Yes, the Kitsune hadn’t disappeared.
She stood there, still crying… still glaring.
But around her—there was nothing left.
She stood alone.
In a world that no longer existed.
And she still hadn’t noticed it.
“…”
Kael stared at this situation and gulped.
He did not know how to react or what to do in this situation.
“Father!”
Suddenly, he heard a voice that brought him out of his reverie. In a hurry, he turned towards the voice and noticed his Vita rushing towards him at her full speed.
“Father! What happened!? Why did Everveil disappear!?”
The Fox questioned as she stood in front of her father.
Soon, her eyes fell on Reynara and—
“Lady Reynara? Father, what happened to her? Why is she crying like this?”
The little Fox tried going close to her, but for some reason, Kael picked her up, stopping her from getting close.
“Father…?”
Vita frowned, turning towards her father, unable to understand what was happening.
Kael wanted to answer,
But then—
[Ding!]
He heard a sound.
[Mission Completed.]
‘What…?’
Kael’s expression changed.
‘Complete? How?’
He wondered.
Soon, however, he realized it.
He was supposed to ‘learn the truth,’ and he finally learned it, no?
‘So that was it?’
Kael blinked. He was a little underwhelmed; he felt like if he was careful enough, he could have cleared the mission much quicker than this.
Not that it mattered now. Kael shook his head and stopped thinking about it. To distract himself, he quickly thought of another good thing that was about to happen—
The reward.
[Completion Reward: Echo of Everveil]
Of course, Kael had no idea what this ‘Echo of Everveil’ was, but the last two rewards he got made him much stronger—one changed his very body, allowing him to grow faster, while the other literally gave him the ability to fly.
So he had high expectations.
However, what he still did not understand was how he was supposed to get the reward.
Usually, it happens when everything around them turns white, and while it may have happened, Reynara was still here.
Why was that?
Kael wondered in his head.
He continued to stare at the Kitsune in front of him and after a short while, something happened.
“This is the Perfect World!
A world filled with only Happiness!”
Reynara spoke. The usual gentleness in her voice was gone; now, it was filled with desperation and… grief.
Kael narrowed his eyes. He glanced at Vitaria, but the Fox seemed just as confused as him.
“Why do you not understand? Everveil is an ideal world! So what if it was an illusion? As long as people living inside it don’t understand that, isn’t it fine? They are still happy, are they not?”
The Kitsune questioned and Kael just blinked at the absurdity of the situation.
Just…
What in the hell was she talking about?
And as if everything was waiting for him to ask this question, something changed.
