Beast Tamer Ascension

Book 2: Chapter 78: Rushing to Rebirth

Vol 2 Chapter 78: Rushing to Rebirth

Soul Seizing.

Cultivators who reach the Nascent Soul Stage possess the ability to seize another’s body. However, to protect the prodigies of the lower realms, the Celestial Palace in the Immortal Realm imposes strict regulations on this practice. Soul seizing is fraught with risks and constrained by the world’s laws, making it highly prone to failure. A failed attempt often results in the Nascent Soul dissipating entirely.

Under extreme circumstances, Lin Jing could understand why some cultivators would resort to soul seizing. After all, anyone desperate enough to consider such an act was likely at death’s door, with nothing left to lose.

But what baffled Lin Jing was the target: why on earth would someone try to seize his Longevity Body?

The Longevity Body cultivated at a painfully slow pace and, though prized by demons and monsters for its essence, offered little practical advantage. Even in the rare case of a successful soul seizure, the aftermath would be far worse than selecting a different special physique. If the Longevity Body were truly such a blessing, history would have seen cultivators with it reach the Nascent Soul Transformation Stage—but none ever had.

“Are you sure about this reading? You look younger than I am,” Lin Jing remarked skeptically.

“Don’t underestimate me. Despite my age, I’ve passed my master’s rigorous tests and earned the right to walk the cultivation world as a Tianji Pavilion disciple,” Bai Yuran replied confidently.

“Strange. If this really is a Void Mystical cultivator from the Yin Corpse Sect, they shouldn’t lack suitable bodies. Why would they choose such a poor strategy?” Lin Jing frowned, pondering the situation as he silently called out to Senior Pine.

“There’s a Void Mystical cultivator suspected of having lost their body. What should we do? Do you think you can handle them?” Lin Jing asked.

After a brief silence, Senior Pine’s voice echoed in Lin Jing’s mind. “Void Mystical Stage? And they’ve fallen to the point where they must seize a new body to survive, with no other options?”

“Seems that way,” Lin Jing replied.

“Trash,” Senior Pine scoffed.

“So… does this mean you have a way to deal with them?” Lin Jing asked, his spirits lifting.

“No, I just wanted to insult them. With cultivation that high, how could they end up in such a sorry state? I could’ve done better with that power,” Senior Pine muttered.

Lin Jing: “???”

“Are you planning to return to the Hidden Dragon Academy?” Bai Yuran asked, breaking Lin Jing’s reverie.

She believed the academy was the safest place for him now. Returning there might help him avoid the looming danger, whereas wandering the outside world would only invite more trouble. The ostentatious inauguration ceremony had already drawn too much attention.

“Don’t listen to the little girl!” Senior Pine interjected eagerly. “If it were a fully-powered Void Mystical cultivator, even ten of me wouldn’t dare face them. But someone so desperate they need to seize a body to survive? Hah! Hiding would be a waste!”

“Think about it. Void Mystical Stage cultivators are treasure troves! If we could pull off another ambush like the one with the Southern Mountain Demon Emperor, imagine the spoils we’d collect!”

Lin Jing blinked in surprise. “Senior, how confident are you?”

“You won’t be in danger. I’ll set up a formation leveraging natural terrain. Once they fall into it, there’ll be no escape for their spatial primordial spirit!”

“Besides,” Senior Pine continued, “aren’t you curious why this Yin Corpse Sect cultivator skipped over countless other bodies and targeted you? Or what turmoil within the Yin Corpse Sect caused someone of such high rank to end up in this pitiful state?”

Lin Jing hesitated but ultimately chose to trust Senior Pine, his guardian.

“I’m not going back to the Hidden Dragon Academy,” Lin Jing said, turning to Bai Yuran. “Even a clay figurine has its limits. First, they sold information about my physique to the Southern Mountain Demon Emperor. Now their cultivators want to seize my body. I’ve had enough!”

Bai Yuran: “???”

“You’re just a Qi Refinement cultivator! What can you even do?” she exclaimed.

Lin Jing didn’t reply, only hoping that Senior Pine’s plan would work. Deep down, he wished for greater strength so he could one day obliterate the Yin Corpse Sect himself.

Half a day later, the Holy Son Inauguration Ceremony concluded. Not wanting to entangle the Beast Taming Sect further in his affairs, Lin Jing announced his plans to travel to the Air Domain and challenge a renowned ruin, leaving behind a clear trail of his whereabouts.

Although he was eager to leave the Great Wasteland immediately, Lin Jing couldn’t resist selecting a few gifts from the ceremony’s offerings. Among them was the Myriad Beast Circle from the Myriad Beast Sect—a valuable treasure that Lin Jing insisted on keeping to prevent its misuse or the propagation of more mosquito beasts.

The Beast Taming Sect’s leaders, aware of the dangers associated with the Longevity Body, fully understood Lin Jing’s decision to leave. However, to other sects, it was unusual for a newly inaugurated Holy Son to leave his sect so soon. Traditionally, this was a time to build alliances and establish connections with other sects.

“Holy Son!”

The Great Elder of the Hundred Flower Valley, worried that Lin Jing might bypass their valley altogether, personally sought him out.

“Senior?” Lin Jing asked.

“Ah, the Holy Son still remembers me.” The Great Elder chuckled. “Previously, you expressed interest in our Hundred Flower Immortal Honey. After consulting with the Valley Master, we decided it would be inappropriate to present it as a mere ceremonial gift. Instead, we’ve chosen a more suitable occasion to gift it to you.”

“Additionally, the Hundred Flower Valley will also grant you a matching secret technique!”

Though Lin Jing’s desire to satisfy his palate had waned in the face of impending danger, the mention of a secret technique piqued his interest.

“There are four secret techniques in our valley that require the Immortal Honey for cultivation,” the Great Elder explained. “Usually, only the Valley Master or their successors are eligible to learn them, as the honey’s low yield limits its use. However, the valley is willing to grant one of these techniques to the Holy Son.”

“Please elaborate,” Lin Jing requested.

“The first is the Art of Shedding, a feigned death technique that conceals one’s vital energy. When perfected, it can even hide you from tribulations. However, the technique is incomplete, as our inheritance of it was an accidental find.”

“The second is the Art of Ascension, a flight technique far superior in speed to normal methods. When performed by a Nascent Soul cultivator, even most Nascent Soul Transformation experts would struggle to catch up without special means.”

“The last is the Art of the Heavenly Cocoon, a healing technique that creates a cocoon-like structure using condensed spiritual threads. It allows the user to heal from any injury, no matter how severe—even damage to one’s core or soul. With this, a Golden Core cultivator could repeatedly use core-burning techniques without fear of their core shattering.”

Lin Jing’s eyes lit up as he asked, “Senior, the Art of Shedding can conceal one’s vital energy?”

This technique seemed tailor-made for someone with the Longevity Body. While Lin Jing had methods to hide his physique, his boundless vitality would become increasingly difficult to conceal as his cultivation grew. This technique could be a perfect solution.

“Yes, indeed. If you choose it, our Valley Master will personally instruct you,” the Great Elder offered.

“That won’t be necessary, Senior. I’ll accompany you to retrieve it. Afterward, I’ll be leaving the Great Wasteland,” Lin Jing replied.

The Great Elder was stunned. “Holy Son, are you in such a rush to… reincarnate? A Nascent Soul cultivator offering personal guidance, and you refuse?!”
