Beast Tamer Ascension

Book 2: Chapter 51: The Blood Pool

Vol 2 Chapter 51: The Blood Pool

“Could it be that this wild genius capable of defeating a ranked talent from the Genius Rankings is none other than him?” Tianji Pavilion’s Tianhuihua mused quietly as he observed Lin Jing, whose mastery over beasts had subdued the mosquito swarm. After a brief pause, he continued, “Though he’s still in the Qi Refinement stage, his Beast Taming methods, coupled with the aid of the mosquito swarm, give him enough strength to rival the talents on the Genius Rankings.”

“Plus... considering the current state of the sealed Beast Taming Sect, it’s plausible to regard him as an unaligned wild genius.”

The academy instructors exchanged uneasy glances. It wasn’t impossible, and they were momentarily reminded of the Beast Taming Sect’s sealed status.

“Horizons vast and skies so wide, mosquito beasts gather by the mountainside~” Lin Jing cheerfully hummed a tune as he soared back into the clouds, his mood lifted after subduing the swarm. Participating in the academy’s Autumn Trial had already proven rewarding. The effort the instructors had invested in setting up the trials within the Cangmang Mountain Range was evident.

Lin Jing was particularly pleased with the Cloud Sea Mosquito Beasts—arguably the most famous among mosquito-type demonic beasts. According to Records of Ancient Monsters and Anomalies, they were bred in antiquity by the monstrous Frog Emperor to strengthen his clan. Using unimaginable techniques, he created a species of mosquitos capable of rapid reproduction by consuming blood, even from beings far more powerful than themselves.

Unlike ordinary pests, these mosquitos could devour high-grade blood without their bodies bursting, a far cry from other creations like the trashy Blood Devil Vine synthesized by the Pine Leaf Mouse. While consuming stronger blood didn’t increase the mosquito’s power, it enhanced two unique traits: reproductive ability and nutritional value.

The Frog Emperor’s Swallowing Frog clan utilized these mosquitos as a food source to swiftly grow out of their vulnerable juvenile stage and into a formidable force. However, after offending the Celestial Palace and being annihilated, the mosquitos were left masterless. They proliferated wildly in the Cloud Sea Mountains, mutating over time into their current fearsome forms, earning their place among the Ten Terrors of the Cloud Sea.

Although now categorized as one of the Ten Terrors rather than food, Lin Jing, well-read as he was, immediately recognized their original identity.

“Back then, even ordinary mosquitos that consumed Longevity Blood were enough to bulk up the Dragon Carp...”

“Though Records of Ancient Monsters says these mosquitos are no longer suitable as food, they must still be better than regular ones, right?”

“If I were to rear these Cloud Sea Mosquito Beasts on Longevity Blood, they could become a steady source of nutrition for the Dragon Carp, akin to the ancient Swallowing Frog clan.”

The records also highlighted two main reasons the current mosquitos weren’t ideal for consumption: their diminished ability to convert blood into nutrients and their evolved metallic bodies, which were harder to digest. Still, Lin Jing reasoned that with the Dragon Carp’s fire attribute and its ability to refine metals, it should be able to manage.

Pleased with the prospect, Lin Jing knew that capturing these beasts in their native habitat would’ve been nearly impossible, even if he were at the Foundation Establishment stage. As he flew, he paused to land and retrieved his Myriad Beast Circle. Without the suppressive power of his Beast Taming Physique, the swarm reestablished its bloodline connection, instantly melting the frost encasing them. Though their intelligence had been nearly wiped clean by the circle, their savage instincts remained, and they began ramming against its boundaries.

“This bloodline connection is truly terrifying. A mere swarm of Qi Refinement mosquitos can suppress a Genius Ranking talent. No wonder they’re one of the Ten Terrors... Without my suppression, putting the Dragon Carp with them might result in it being eaten instead!” Lin Jing mused. “Even the Myriad Beast Circle from Qingzhou’s Myriad Beast Sect struggles to contain their ferocity. I’ll need to take this step by step to tame and refine them.”

He began channeling his Beast Taming Qi into the circle, gradually suppressing the swarm’s violent nature. Meanwhile, the academy instructors shifted their attention away from him, their expressions mixed.

“What a waste,” one instructor lamented. “The mountains contain an opportunity even for these mosquitos, yet they met their nemesis before reaching it.”

“Well, perhaps it’s for the best. If the swarm had reached that opportunity, the students would’ve suffered immensely.”

The Cloud Sea Mosquito Beast trial was one of five challenges prepared by the instructors for the Autumn Trial, requiring the collaboration of many students to overcome. They hadn’t anticipated that a Beast Taming cultivator like Lin Jing would so thoroughly neutralize this challenge. Now, their focus turned toward another trial site: a pool of crimson liquid.

It wasn’t a spiritual pool but a Blood Pool. The monkey demon tribe of the Cangmang Mountains had occupied the area and was soaking in the pool. As they bathed, their physiques and cultivation levels soared, and their bloodlines began evolving toward dragon blood.

“This is...” Tianhuihua paused, feeling an inexplicable sense of pressure from the pool, even as a Nascent Soul cultivator. “Could it be...”

He suddenly recalled something.

“Is this the blood of the Southern Mountain Demon Emperor who invaded Hidden Dragon Academy recently?”

Though few knew of the Demon Emperor’s assault, Tianji Pavilion had pieced together some details. The academy, reluctant to reveal the event, had not publicly disclosed the information.

“Yes,” confirmed an instructor. “The academy extracted some of the Demon Emperor’s blood, diluted it, and infused it with medicinal ingredients to create the Dragon Transformation Blood Pool. Any demonic beast that bathes in it will see its demonic power surge and has a high chance of evolving into a Dragon-Blooded Demonic Beast. Human cultivators can also use it as a perfect body-refinement bath to enhance their physiques.”

The instructors discussed how the Blood Pool would attract fierce competition among students once discovered, leading to a chaotic struggle. The beasts soaking in the pool were the first hurdle, with the pool itself serving as the prize.

Observing a group of individuals approaching the pool, the instructors’ expressions turned strange. Most of these individuals shared a common trait: each had a dragon-blooded pet beast by their side. R̃ἁΝȰBÈş

“These people...”

“They’re all members of the Dragon Palace founded by Lin Jing. Everyone has a dragon-blooded demonic beast!”

“This Blood Pool is a massive opportunity for them, enabling their dragon-blooded pets to advance further.”

“Why is it always Lin Jing?” Tianhuihua muttered, falling silent. Lin Jing, a mere newcomer, had somehow become more prominent than the top talents on the Genius Rankings. At every turn, his name seemed to surface.
