Chapter 33
The sky hadn't yet broken into dawn.
"Aowoo~"
In a half-asleep state, Lu Xuan suddenly heard a coarse howl in his ear.
He jolted awake instantly, the drowsiness vanishing as he opened his eyes, only to find the Cloud-Stepping Lynx staring coldly at him not far away.
"Was that howl just now from you? It's a bit..."
"Too contrasting, isn't it?"
Lu Xuan looked at the lynx cub quietly squatting on the bed. It was hard to reconcile the elegant and majestic figure in front of him with the rough, coarse sound from moments ago.
"Can you give me another howl to listen to?"
Lu Xuan asked, trying to confirm.
The lynx paid no attention, lightly leaping as if stepping on four clouds, landing gracefully on the ground.
Helpless, Lu Xuan got up, about to freshen up, when behind him came another somewhat ambiguous sound.
"Aow..."
Clearly a forced tone, yet with innate talent, Lu Xuan could almost visualize a burly man exerting all his strength to act cute.
"That's a pleasant sound, but let's not do it again next time."
Lu Xuan casually remarked.
After finishing his morning routine, he fed a few strips of dried pufferfish meat. Since acquiring the lynx cub yesterday, he had established a simple master-servant contract with it.
This contract ensured a close connection between them, a certain level of mutual understanding. If the spiritual pet intended harm to the cultivator, the cultivator could sense it immediately.
The conditions were simple, and the restrictions relatively few. It was said that in sects specializing in beast-taming, there were even more complex blood contracts. Once established, the cultivator could decide the pet's life and death with a single thought. If the cultivator unexpectedly passed away, the pet would follow suit.
After breakfast, Lu Xuan arrived at the spirit field, inspecting every area meticulously.
In the Spirit Spring Pool, the Pure Snow Lotus had grown several delicate, snowy-white leaves, proudly thriving amidst the misty atmosphere, serene and independent.
Lu Xuan watered them with a round of spirit rain imbued with chilly spirit power, making the small leaves look even cooler.
There were a few Blood Jade Ginseng roots misbehaving, attempting to mingle together during the nights when Lu Xuan rested.
He even spotted two jade-like ginsengs inching toward a Blood Jade Ginseng from opposite directions.
"If I hadn't noticed in time, wouldn't you three have formed a ginseng trio?"
Lu Xuan mercilessly taunted, adjusting the misplaced two Blood Jade Ginsengs using earth attraction techniques.
Within the slender, crimson pine needles of the Crimson Cloud Pine, the volume of five pine seeds had increased slightly, hinting at an imminent emergence, barely contained.
In the area with Firefly Grass planted, a hundred plants had reached their final stages of maturity, each standing over a foot tall. Lu Xuan estimated that a few of them would yield light orbs as rewards in the coming days.
After surveying the spirit field, he carried some unearthed exotic insects and headed back to the edge of the Spirit Spring.
In the Spirit Spring Pool, the Three Red Whiskered Carps swam around the Pure Snow Lotus, seemingly sensing a slightly different spiritual environment around the leaves.
"In a sense, this scene could be summarized in four lines of verse."
"Fish frolic east of lotus leaves, fish frolic west of lotus leaves, fish frolic south of lotus leaves, fish frolic north of lotus leaves."
"But in ancient poetry, it describes dense lotus leaves with fish constantly appearing. Here in the Spirit Spring Pool, the Red Whiskered Carp surrounds the Pure Snow Lotus, directly covering it from all four directions."
Lu Xuan mused inwardly, dropping a plump exotic insect into the Spirit Spring.
Even before Lu Xuan arrived, the Three Red Whiskered Carps sensed the impending delicacy and positioned themselves below him, each dragging a pair of slender red whiskers, swimming underneath him.
As soon as the insect was dropped, six whiskers shot out simultaneously, aiming for the fallen treat.
Suddenly, a black-and-white paw extended from the edge of the spring, grabbing the six slender red whiskers.
Tugged by the paw, the Red Whiskered Carp leaped out of the shallow water.
Before Lu Xuan could reprimand, the Cloud-Stepping Lynx cub swiftly released the black-and-white paw, causing the Red Whiskered Carp to involuntarily plunge back into the Spirit Spring.
Instantly, the Red Whiskered Carp that had been fishing with its red whiskers became much more restrained. It no longer dared to pop the red whiskers out to Lu Xuan and instead waited for the insect to drop into the water before competing.
Lu Xuan glared at the lynx cub nestled by the edge of the Spirit Spring. He sensed that catching fish was its instinct, yet instantly letting go was following Lu Xuan's instructions.
Ignoring Lu Xuan, the lynx cub stealthily roamed around the edge of the Spirit Spring, waiting for an opportunity.
However, the Red Whiskered Carp, having suffered a setback, dared not extend its red whiskers again.
Three days passed in a blink.
The injuries on the Cloud-Stepping Lynx's body had all scarred over, and four of the Spirit Field's Firefly Grass had matured.
Perhaps due to the purer and richer spiritual aura in the Spirit Field, combined with Lu Xuan's meticulous nurturing from the spiritual seed stage, these mature Firefly Grasses brought an unexpected surprise.
Two were of superior quality, and two were of perfect quality.
After harvesting the four Firefly Grasses, four faintly shimmering white light orbs remained in their original spots.
Lu Xuan picked up each light orb.
"Harvesting one Firefly Grass, gaining nine months of cultivation."
"Harvesting one Firefly Grass, gaining one year of cultivation."
Two thoughts flashed through Lu Xuan's mind.
His spiritual power surged within him, raging through his meridians.
He circulated his techniques, controlling the flow of spiritual power within, allowing it to gradually calm down. A slight smile appeared on his face.
During this time, although his focus had been on cultivating spiritual plants, in his spare moments, he had diligently practiced. However, his spiritual energy had been almost stagnant.
He wasn't in a rush, though. His innate talent was there, and such a pace of cultivation was normal.
More importantly, with the light orb rewards from the Firefly Grass, whether his spiritual power increased or not wasn't as crucial.
Indeed, just these two Firefly Grasses almost equated to two years of his hard work.
"The quality at maturity in the spirit field seems to have a significant impact on the light orb rewards."
"I remember, ordinary quality grants three months of cultivation, good quality grants six months, superior quality grants nine months, and perfect quality grants one year."
He thought to himself, proceeding to pick up the third white light orb.
"Harvesting one Firefly Grass, obtaining the Wood Growth Art."
A thought flashed in his mind.
"Wood Growth Art, a wood-based technique that can condense wood-based spiritual energy, somewhat accelerating the growth of spiritual
plants."
"Finally, a new technique has emerged."
After the Earth Attraction Technique and the Metal-Elemental Sword Technique, the light orb from the Firefly Grass brought forth a third kind of technique.
This Wood Growth Art was akin to the Earth Attraction Technique, both being non-ranked techniques, not as powerful as the Metal-Elemental Sword Technique but more suitable for Lu Xuan.
"Just mastering the ripening effect is better than nothing. After absorbing a few more experiences with the Wood Growth Art, it should significantly shorten the growth time of spiritual plants."
Lu Xuan thought to himself.
The last white light orb was also from the Firefly Grass of perfect quality.
As the light orb vanished, a talisman appeared in Lu Xuan's hand.
The material of the talisman differed from ordinary ones, seemingly crafted from gold and iron, with numerous fine sword marks etched on it.
"Myriad Sword Qi Talisman, a second-grade talisman. When activated, it's equivalent to a full-force strike from a high-level Qi cultivation practitioner, extremely potent."
"A second-grade talisman!"
Lu Xuan was pleasantly surprised. Both first and second-grade talismans fell within the Qi cultivation realm. Most first-grade talismans equated to a full-force strike from a low-level Qi cultivation practitioner, and some excellent ones could rise to mid-level Qi cultivation. Second-grade talismans, on the other hand, mostly matched a strike from a high-level Qi cultivation practitioner.
For the current Lu Xuan, this could be considered a trump card.
