Will of chaos

Chapter 1872 - 1872: Cap 1869 (Remade): Raakoy

I was waiting with Yaffe. We had to wait hours longer than I expected before Ronan showed up. The strange thing was how he looked directly at me; something in his gaze connected with me.

We were still outside the Temple of Urd. She wouldn’t let Ronan in after his last break-in attempt. I wouldn’t allow that either. So he sat next to me and Yaffe around that table that quickly became a mess filled with food.

“We don’t have much time. In a few hours, I won’t be able to track our target.” (Ronan)

“I see you’re joining us, Deadly Serpent.” (Ronan)

“Just call me Yaffe. I’m getting paid for being here.” (Yaffe)

“Since when do you accept anything for payment?” (Ronan)

“Since I found a perfect place to set up my laboratory and a sublime individual to sink my teeth into.” (Yaffe)

“Please, no Hades-bashing around me…” (me)

“How about we get back to planning?” (me)

Yaffe has her own interests, but from what I’ve heard, she might be more selfish than I thought. She also seems to care little about anything others consider valuable.

“Tell me more about the target. If we’re going to hunt an Avatar, I’d like to know as much as possible first.” (me)

“You’re right, I’ll summarize his story for you. This is important for you to understand how he thinks and acts.” (Ronan)

“His name is Raakoy. He’s an expert in Curses and Illusions. His pride is his Curses.” (Ronan)

“He had a weak constitution, no talent, and was born into poverty to the point that when he was deemed useless, he was abandoned by his family.” (Ronan)

“He was intelligent and persevering. He somehow found a book on normal curses and mastered them in weeks, using those curses to accomplish everything he could never have done.” (Ronan)

“He used curses to steal vitality from others to regain good health, he used curses to steal abilities and talents, and so he continued to accumulate more knowledge about curses.” (Ronan)

“Everything he wants, he uses curses to achieve, manipulating them as if they were part of his body.” (Ronan)

“His greatest pride is his curses. His pride in his power is so great that my Lady reached out to him in an attempt to gain more curse experts at her side.” (Ronan)

“That’s when he became an Avatar of Pride; it happened before I was born.” (Ronan)

“I can’t believe an Entity chose him as its Avatar.” (Yaffe)

“All Entities seek to diversify their Avatars, so they can grasp new interpretations of their concepts by assuming their bodies, which would limit their paths.” (Ronan)

I understand little of what they’re discussing, but just listening to this Raakoy character’s story, it was clear he wasn’t a good choice for countless reasons, and it seems Yaffe agrees with me.

Sigh

“A complete idiot, he fell into the damned well.” (Yaffe)

“Let me guess, he tried to turn himself into a curse?” (Yaffe)

“He didn’t just try, he succeeded…” (Ronan)

“No, he didn’t succeed. The body can easily turn into a curse, and there are millions of ways to accomplish this, some with minor side effects and others that would make the mere existence of that body an agony for the being itself as well as for everything around it.” (Yaffe)

“One’s mind cannot become a curse, but there are some techniques that transform mental energy into cursed power.” (Yaffe)

“The soul itself is more difficult. Any means of deliberately transforming a Soul into a curse is taboo before the Goddesses of Death, and depending on the individual’s level of power, it would be a taboo that would attract the attention of Death itself.” (Yaffe)

“The Existential Spark, however, cannot be altered. It can be corrupted or refined into something else, which is also a Reincarnation Taboo. But this act itself destroys the Existential Spark. There is no way to transform it into a curse as it is without destroying it.” (Yaffe)

“I myself managed to create a Cursed body and marked my Soul with a Curse, but not even I can affect the Existential Spark. Not even the Entity of the Curse can do so because it escapes its Transcendental Authority.” (Yaffe)

“Only this Bringer of Chaos was able to create an already cursed Existential Spark, as well as an Innate Curse Soul and a living curse, but he also couldn’t transform the Existential Spark and had to create one from scratch naturally.” (Yaffe)

“You’re right to a certain extent, but he extracted his Existential Spark and used an Origin Artifact in its place. His mind went mad, losing all inhibitions due to the curse he created with coincidence itself as its core.” (Ronan)

“That would be an incomplete state; he avoided what he couldn’t do. It would be like a soldier who ripped off his arm and replaced it with a combat-ready prosthetic for the purpose of becoming stronger in battle.” (me)

“Exactly what the little chaos boy said. That’s a stupid decision. Look at the example he gave. Someone like this soldier would become stronger, but this prosthetic would never be able to improve with his training. He would have to constantly change it. He would also lose his ability to move fluidly. Control of a body is incomparable to control of a tool.” (Yaffe)

“This fool did the same thing. Extracting the Existential Spark alone becomes a monumental risk, and even if successful, his growth becomes stagnant.” (Yaffe)

Exactly what Yaffe said. Even I, who am not a great connoisseur of curses, can see how he took the wrong path. To her, who is the same type as him, it must seem like she’s listening to the story of a madman.

“You’re right, and that’s where everything went wrong. His growth and knowledge stalled. He exhausted his potential and couldn’t reverse the process.” (Ronan)

“That’s when he betrayed Pride. He fled to Curse’s side, unlike Ghanor, who had strayed from his path and unwittingly betrayed my lady.” (Ronan)

“Raakoy is different. He actively betrayed my lady, stealing secrets and important items to prove his worth to Curse.” (Ronan)

“As far as I understand, an Entity knows everything about your Avatar. Pride must have been able to stop Raakoy from extracting his Existential Spark and should have been able to kill him before he reached Curse.” (me)

“Why didn’t he do it?” (me)

“Why didn’t he want to? She’s always been too proud to act. She lets others act on her behalf, takes pride in seeing them fulfill their duties, and also takes pride in seeing their individual achievements. She’s so liberal that she almost acts as a ruler over them rather than imposing her control as an Entity.” (Yaffe)

“What she says is true. Pride is using Raakoy’s betrayal as a mission right now, a mission I took upon myself. I can’t let him keep running after what he did.” (Ronan)

I can’t understand these Entities. The Avatars were supposed to be their incarnations, puppets in their hands, but here’s an Entity that uses them the same way I treat my Heralds.

I can’t understand why it didn’t act sooner. It probably had a few opportunities, but it’s only acting now. Something isn’t right here. I can’t understand what Pride is after.

“Anything else we need to know about him?” (Me)

“Yes, that’s him.” (Ronan)

Ronan raises his hand, and golden energy leaks from his hands, creating a slowly rotating humanoid form. This must be Raakoy.

He resembles a child in terms of proportions, but his skin was too pale, as if he were a corpse. His black eyes had purple irises, as did his large, broad tongue, which shared the same color. His mouth, full of sharp teeth, was very large, reaching down to his triangular ears. His white hair reached his shoulders and was disheveled, with the tips slightly purple. His hands were large and thin, with long fingers ending in very sharp bone claws.

His body was quite unique, but he seemed somewhat translucent, like a specter, with energy coursing through his body like a veiny pattern in his wrists. I could even sense a trace of Aura from this image.

“That Aura…” (me)

“My mistress believes an Aura sample from him is necessary, as his illusions will be a problem, but be careful, as his Aura may have changed.” (Ronan)

“He never fights head-on; he likes to confuse his enemies, deceive everyone, and let them die without even knowing how they died.” (Ronan)

“Throughout his time as the Avatar of Pride, he never fought directly, and he never needed to. One of his curses could devastate entire planets.” (Ronan)

“If he dares use curses in front of me, we’ll see how he ends up!” (Yaffe)

“The point is, he won’t be alone; he’s not the only one we have to worry about.” (Me)

“Exactly. If it were just him, it would be problematic, but he’s not the only Avatar we’ll have to deal with.” (Ronan)
