Vivian’s hands clenched slightly in her lap. She could feel the temperature inside her own body rising again, that soft electric pulse humming just beneath the surface.
Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. Her voice slipped out, soft, breathy, a whisper not meant for Mila’s ears.
“Allen…”
He turned to her immediately, eyes narrowing slightly but still wearing that controlled smile.
“Hm?”
Vivian wet her lips before answering, her voice barely louder than a breath. “Stop it.”
That made him raise a brow. “Stop what?”
“You’re still in that mode,” she whispered, glancing nervously toward Mila who was now politely sipping her drink, trying not to listen but very much aware.
Allen frowned slightly, amused. “What mode?”
Vivian leaned a little closer, still whispering. “You know what I mean. That mode. You’re still… like him.”
There was no need to say who.
They both knew.
She meant his other self.
The Devil Emperor.
Allen’s eyes darkened for a brief moment, then he lowered his voice, matching her breathy tone. “But I’m here,” he whispered back. “I mean… this is the real world.”
Vivian’s breath quickened. The way his voice dipped when he said real world — like even that wasn’t enough to fully separate who he was in her mind.
She shook her head slightly, her face warm. “I know. But… your presence and all… it feels like him.”
Allen’s lips curved again, leaning just an inch closer, his shoulder brushing hers under the table. “Really?” he whispered. “Because I don’t feel like that right now.”
He glanced sideways at her, eyes glittering with quiet mischief. “Unless…”
He leaned even closer — close enough that his lips were right by her ear, his breath warm against her skin, sending a shiver through her entire body.
“Unless,” he murmured, “you feel that way… because of yesterday?”
Vivian’s breath hitched.
Her pulse spiked so hard she swore her chest might give out.
Before she could even form a response, Allen pulled back slowly, tilting his head with that innocent expression that made it worse. Like he didn’t just whisper poison directly into her ear.
Vivian’s face reddened instantly, her mind flashing back to last night—their late hours online together, the things they’d done in-game, the way his hands had touched her skin like it belonged to him.
And now, sitting right next to him in real life…
Yeah.
She couldn’t pretend that connection wasn’t still there.
Allen watched her reaction with silent satisfaction.
Vivian pressed her lips together, trying not to crumble completely in front of Mila.
Then Allen spoke again, voice returning to his smooth, casual tone. “Actually… I have something that might settle that for all of you.”
Vivian glanced up, still flustered. “Settle what?”
Allen smiled, casual as ever. “I’ll say it in the group chat. Later. You girls can discuss it first before we finalize it.”
His voice was smooth, almost businesslike, but under that calm tone was a silent game. He was giving her just enough bait to stew on.
Vivian swallowed, her head spinning slightly, both from the suggestion and the way he dropped it like a ticking time bomb for later.
Mila, who had been watching the quiet back-and-forth with growing awareness, finally couldn’t help herself. She broke the tension with a small nervous laugh, looking between them.
“I feel like a third wheel here…” she admitted softly.
Her voice was light, but there was a tinge of vulnerability underneath. Like she knew something unspoken was passing between Allen and Vivian, but couldn’t quite place it.
Allen’s gaze snapped to her immediately. His voice softened. “Sorry, Mila,” he said gently. “I didn’t mean it that way.”
He smiled in a way that instantly made her stomach flutter.
“You’re not a third wheel,” Allen continued, his tone steady, “not with me. Not here.”
Mila bit her lip again, her face pinking instantly under the warmth of his words. Her heart skipped, flipping between nervousness and flattered thrill.
She couldn’t fully understand what that exchange between him and Vivian was about, but she didn’t need to.
But then Allen’s gaze shifted back to Mila, smooth and casual, like nothing had just passed between him and Vivian. Like she was the only one in the room now.
“So,” Allen said softly, voice low but clear, “Mila, what’s your schedule after this?”
Mila blinked, caught off guard for a second. “My schedule?”
Allen smiled. “Yes. Are you free after this?”
Her heart skipped. She forced a playful pout, trying to brush away her nerves. “Why? You want to hang out with me or something?”
She added the tease quickly, not thinking much about it. But even as the words left her mouth, she felt her pulse speed up.
Allen’s smile deepened. “Why not?” he said calmly, his voice sliding over her skin like silk.
Mila’s throat tightened slightly. She bit her lip again, cheeks warming. “Well… like in-game?” she asked, half-joking, half-hoping.
Allen shook his head slowly, leaning just a little closer, his voice dropping ever so slightly. “We’re here now.”
His eyes locked on hers for a second, sending a jolt through her chest.
“Why would we need the game?”
Mila flushed instantly, glancing down for a moment to gather herself, feeling the warmth spreading in her body again like fire under her skin.
Then Allen’s gaze shifted smoothly to Vivian, like a slow pan of focus.
“And you, Vivian?” he asked. “What about your schedule?”
Vivian exhaled softly, still trying to keep her own breathing under control. “Sorry,” she said quietly, “I need to go back to the agency after this. Some business to settle.”
Allen nodded once, as if expecting it. “I see.”
Then, casually, his voice softened again. “Well, guess it’ll just be the two of us then, Mila.”
He smiled at her again, eyes glinting just enough to make her chest flutter dangerously.
“Maybe an hour or two,” Allen added smoothly. “That should be fine, right?”
Mila’s stomach twisted as the heat built higher in her chest. She nodded, voice catching slightly. “Y-Yeah. Of course.”
Allen simply leaned back in his chair again, as composed as ever. But behind those calm eyes?
He was enjoying every single second of this.
