117 Inferior.

Valerian turned around to look at the girl in front of him. The girl was two heads taller than him, seemingly a late teenager. She had golden brown hair and her eyes were shining as if sapphire. She looked very valiant dressed in a white shirt and knee-length emerald skirt. Her shoulders were covered with a matching emerald tunic, and the final touch was her knee-high boots.

She really gave off the vibe of a rich and noble princess. Valerian was dressed in a black shirt and pants, with shin-high brown boots and a silver tunic on his shoulders. Despite the lack of color on his person, he was strikingly handsome. Ashlyn was shocked for a minute when she saw him.

However, before she could adjust her stance, the boy said, “Lady Conixia, you can go back to your dwellings and tend to your own work.”

The lady nodded, and after a slight bow, she left the place in a hurry. She did not wish to be implicated in whatever was about to come next.

Ashlyn found this absurd, after all, she was still talking to the lady in front of her, yet this boy dared to dismiss her. She said, “Can you not see that I am not done talking to her?”

Valerian ignored her and said, “lady Conixia, go back unafraid, I have you back. You are a person of the Lumen Empire and the aid to the third princess, you do not have to cater to the commands of others. Go ahead.”

His words were pointed to Ashlyn, but he did not even glance at the lady. This was an outright insult. The onlookers suddenly began to whisper about the scene. Most of the people here were members of rich households or noble families. They did not expect this guy to deal with the princess in such a manner.

Someone said, “Her highness is known for her violent temper, and this guy is not even the slightest bit affected. He sure has balls of steel.”

Another person replied, “Fool, this kid is not violent, he is outright brutal. Did you forget that Barak is still unable to walk normally? I am afraid how will he act now.”

.....

The girl who had tried to stop Ashlyn earlier was surprised when she heard this and said, “Your Highness, let us give up this matter, please, can we go back? If Master found out about this, we will get punished again.”

Ashlyn shook her head and said, “No, I just want to see what can this guy do to me. Does he really take himself as a prince? He is just another dirt blood.”

She was punished by her master earlier, and then she met this guy. He showed her a cold attitude and her anger was vented against him. So, in her rage, she failed to notice that Valerian’s gaze was getting colder and colder with each insult she threw at him.

Conixia was very familiar with this, she had almost died at his hands, if not for Meta to save her. She wanted to speak when Valerian said, “Yes, I am an orphan, but you, a noble princess, looking down on others must make you feel pretty high right?”

Ashlyn was stunned and speechless by this. She did not expect him to be so well versed in the art of tongue fighting. She opened her mouth and wanted to say something but Valerian did not give her a chance.

He said coldly, “If not for the fact that killing you might affect the peace of my life and complicate the harmonious relationship between the two empires, you would have died by now.”

His tone and aura scared Ashlyn, her heart skipped a beat. She pointed at him and with a stammer, she said, “You..you dare to threaten me? The academy has rules.”

She was going to raise the flag of rules to scare him. How naive of her. Valerian replied, “I have no concern for rules when someone disrespects my parents. So, the next time you try to look down on someone make sure that the other person makes sure that he is weaker than you. Otherwise, you might not only die but also bring disaster to your entire empire.

As a princess, you do not represent yourself, but also, the entire country in your actions.”

That said, he did not wait for the lady to reply, he gazed at the girl behind the princess and after a nod, he turned around to leave. Ashlyn was stunned momentarily and then she asked him, “Why do you greet her but not me?”

Valerian said, “Conixia, do you remember what I told you when you apologized to me in the forest? Do convey the message to the princess, I have more meaningful things to tend to.”

His tone was calm, as if a breeze, but he was walking away slightly faster. His blood was boiling and he was going to vent. The cat on his shoulder raised her head and slightly cast a look at the princess, who was gazing at Conixia.

Conixia sighed and said, “I beg your pardon, Your Highness. When I first met the Prince, he was a commoner, practicing his skills in the forest, and he saved the lives of my group from a Magical beast. However. I doubted some of his actions and insulted his parents.

I overstepped his dignity and the next moment my throat was in his grip, I would have died if not for the help of my guardian at that time. I apologized to him and the prince said, that he does not accept my apology, and the people who could not differentiate between right and wrong were not comparable to even beasts.”

She bowed to her and quickly fled away to avoid further entanglement with the lady. After all, this was messy enough for the first day after the vacation. She did not wish to get into trouble with either of the parties.

The princess only woke up after her aid nudged her gently. Ashlyn looked at her aid and said in a calm voice, “Silvia, write a letter to my elder sister. Tell her that I want this person to attend her wedding. I will put him in his place at that event in front of the royalty of the three countries.”

Silvia shivered, she wanted to say something but then she could only sigh, the princess has always been like this. Stubborn to the core. They also returned to their dwellings, and the confrontation spread around, highlighting Valerian and the lady in full color.

...

In the battlemage tower, Valerian took out a few things from his trunk and made a bed for Fortuna. He placed her down and was about to turn back to set up his stuff when the kitten meowed at him. He realized that she was hungry. He looked around and said, “Ummm, wait. I will get you some food.”

All of a sudden, an old voice greeted him, “Brat, you bought back a little thing?”

Valerian stood up and bowed to the old man, who appeared out of nowhere, and said, “Greetings Master.”

Fallax nodded and gazed at the kitten in makeshift bedding. He asked, “Why do I sense the aura of a dragon from her?”

Valerian’s heart skipped a bit and his gaze focused on the point between Fallax’s brows. This was a trick to avoid eye contact, but sadly, he was seen through. The old man said, “You think you can avoid the question with the trick I taught you?”

This was enough to tell Valerian that no matter what lies he came up with, Fallax will be able to see through it. He could only clench his fist and say, “I do not trust you enough to tell you the truth.”

The old man was surprised, but he nodded and said, “Fair Enough. However, I already know the truth.”

Valerian looked him in the eyes, while his brain was already thinking, that if the old man tried to take away Fortuna, he will kill this guy and then run away from the place, then even leave the country.

His thoughts were like an open book to Fallax, who sighed and said, “Don’t worry, I am not that wretched to snatch a hot potato from your hands, however, the aura of a dragon cannot be hidden from the eyes of the old. The younger generation might not have seen any of the dragons. But we have. You better not bring her out of the tower.”

Valerian shook his head and asked, “She will not stay behind, she gets restless since you have a way to detect the aura of a dragon, then you must have a way to hide it as well.”

Fallax looked at the boy in front of him and said, “Beat me in a spar and I will tell you.”

Valerian chuckled and said, “Just at the right time. I needed to vent.”
