Chapter 680: Let’s See Your Skills

"Now then, it seems that the situation has calmed down slightly."

Many people had begun to escape from the Imperial Capital. Among them were two groups of key figures who had yet to escape. After having decided not to interfere with Erik, Gustav was reluctant to intervene further. However, he saw no issue with aiding the other Adlers in their escape. So with this in mind, Gustav teleported outside the castle.

_________

"We're almost at the South Gate! Keep going!"

Krista and her group, who were aiming to escape through the South Gate, were engaged in a fierce battle with the enemy. These weren't the two thousand knights who had entered the capital, but Wilhelm’s forces that were waiting for them outside. Lars, who had been carrying Krista, had to put her down to join the battle himself. Amidst the chaos, a knight approached Krista from behind while unnoticed by her.

"Kuu-chan!"

Noticing the danger, Rita rushed over to her, creating a fatal gap in their defense. Krista turned around in panic but the knight was already within reach, causing her to instinctively close her eyes.

However,

"Open your eyes."

A familiar voice echoed in her mind. At the sound of this nostalgic voice, Krista opened her eyes and saw that the knight was nearly upon her. Unlike Rita, Krista had no combat training even though she had practiced magic.

Yet she quietly sank her consciousness deep within herself, feeling that doing so would somehow help.

"I guess that there's no other choice."

Krista's consciousness briefly faded and something else emerged to the surface. As it took over, Krista's demeanor changed. Her gaze sharpened as she glared at the knight and swung her right hand.

"This girl isn't someone you can just touch."

A barrier formed between Krista and the knight, preventing him from reaching her. Krista then conjured sixteen magic bullets around the knight.

"Be grateful. I have a gift for you."

The knight tried to draw his sword to defend himself but he was too late. The magic bullets struck him from all directions, causing him to collapse. Each bullet wasn’t particularly powerful, but together they were enough to knock him out.

"Controlling this person sure is difficult..."

Krista muttered as she began to sway unsteadily.

"Huh...?"

"Kuu-chan! That was amazing!"

Rita rushed over to support the wobbling Krista. Unaware of what had happened, Krista leaned against Rita while feeling unusually exhausted.

"Break through!"

At Colonel Lars's command, the Narbe Ritter launched an offensive while managing to create an opening in the enemy lines. Seizing the opportunity, Rita ran while dragging Krista with her. However, they couldn't run fast enough, especially with Krista struggling to keep up. Just as Rita bit her lip in frustration,

Their bodies began to float.

"Whoa, whoa!"

"Magic...?"

Both Rita and Krista were surprised as they were encased in a spherical barrier while floating in the air.

"That was quite interesting to watch."

Gustav appeared beside the floating barrier as he snapped his fingers.

"This is a journey for the young-ins... do not interfere."

A shockwave blasted the enemy away.

Gustav then looked at Krista.

"Interesting... very interesting."

While nodding several times, Gustav laughed and pulled out a bracelet. It was a simple, unremarkable bracelet, yet he handed it to Krista.

"Use this when you're in trouble. You'll understand how to use it naturally."

"Um..."

"Go."

With that, Gustav sent Krista and her group towards the South Gate. With no one left to obstruct them, Colonel Lars and his knights followed Krista to the gate and soon they reached the South Gate without further issues.

Satisfied, Gustav dispelled the barrier around Krista and watched them escape.

He then cleared away any remaining pursuers and teleported again.

_________

At the North Gate, Rupert and his group were about to escape but unlike Krista’s group, they hadn't encountered significant enemies and were nearly out of the capital. However, pursuers were closing in from behind so Gustav teleported there and discreetly intercepted the pursuers, preventing them from catching up. Noticing something odd, Rupert looked back curiously only to see nothing much, causing Gustav to chuckle to himself.

"Quite impressive..."

A situation that made Gustav smile knowingly as only he understood the full context of what happened. He then used teleportation magic to place a bracelet in Rupert’s pocket, it was similar to the one he had given Krista, knowing that they would understand its use when needed.

"The young ones have escaped and the Imperial Capital is now under Wilhelm's control... if this is the desired outcome, then so be it."

Everyone who needed to escape had done so. This meant that there was almost no one left in the capital who would resist Wilhelm.

Gustav didn’t know the specifics of Erik’s plan, but he knew that the situation was unfolding according to Erik’s intentions.

"Let's just see how this plays out."

With that, Gustav teleported back to the Imperial Sword Castle to get some rest. Erik was about to put his plan into action with all the key figures having escaped to various regions of the Empire.

What would happen next was uncertain.

However, the enemy’s aim was clearly to capture the capital. Having someone to act from within their ranks would make the task much easier though.

But Erik wasn’t the only one with schemes as Gustav’s apprentice had also started moving. With these thoughts in mind, Gustav settled down to rest within his book.
