The Runic Alchemist
Chapter 724 - 724: The Celebration At The End Of All WarsBy the evening, the whole of the old Empire was hauntingly empty. The Emperor tried to convince Damian to place some waygates so he could instantly send some people from Dawnstar here, but Damian refused it to his face.
No favors until there was something equally valuable being offered. The Emperor then sneakily tried to join the dungeon exploration with the demons, but Damian refused that too. He had enough people in Sanctuary and Malveria to do this for him—and if there was any risky business involved, he could always hire mercenaries. They would go above and beyond for the chance to enter a dungeon. At last, he only agreed to meet the guy after a week to hear the revised offer.
Finally, it had all ended. Damian brought his people back to the Sanctuary—they buried the bodies and mourned for the soldiers who had lost their lives in the last battle against the demons.
Damian had planned to make a really good memorial for all of them and all others who had lost their lives in this war from Sanctuary’s side. For now, they mourned their dead and then celebrated the final victory and end of all wars. Once again, at great cost to the Sanctum office, they held a night of celebration, offering free food and alcohol for all soldiers and officials. The loved ones met their families after a long time. All night, groups of soldiers enjoyed the food and alcohol while talking about all the insane things they had seen today.
For the civilians participating in the celebration, hearing the war stories of all their new guardians—it filled them with pride and gratitude. At last, life could try to go back to normal. A time for peace at last.
For this event, Damian did not separate the normal soldiers and higher-ups. All had gathered in the open green field before the stone keep, celebrating, singing, and dancing all night. All second-ranker knights and even the nobles and third-rankers were present.
People rushed over to talk with him and all other third-rankers. For the simple civilians of the Sanctuary, this was an unprecedented event. Never before had all people, nobles and commoners, celebrated anything together.
Several noble lords tried to advise holding a separate event for the ‘Sanctum people,’ even Evrin and Souldealer did so, but Damian was adamant about doing it this way—and he was the Keeper.
More than that, most of the stories flying around had all kinds of praises for the different third-rankers who had fought in the battle, but all ended in the same way—our Keeper defeated the chaos dragon and decided the battle in a matter of minutes.
After drinking and talking with this and that lord, merchant, and soldier—Damian left the celebration, just like many of the tired ones who wanted to be with their families or just needed a good night’s sleep. Sam, Grace, and Lucian had already left. Even that damned Maelor was charming some noble’s daughter and had disappeared somewhere mysteriously.
Maelor had fought with his brother, the de facto leader of the Dawnstar people. And there was indeed a reason for that. Prince Leon was actually the most talented and blessed of the three brothers, but he had no ambition and had all the bad habits a man in this period could have—alcohol, women, gambling. The guy had transformed into something completely else and was finally living up to the potential he always had.
He was not exactly Transcendent Seed level yet, but he was very close. Actually, both Maelor and Leon Goldflame were among the top second-rankers in the Sanctuary.
When Damian was walking out of the event place, he noticed at some distance a woman dragging her son, accompanied by a beastman lady that had yellow and black fox-like ears. There were quite a number of beastmen in the Sanctuary, but compared to humans, they were a minority—barely 10–12% of the population—and mostly refugees from Ashenvale’s other chaotic regions before Eldoris conquered all of it up to Sanctuary’s borders and brought back order to the broken country.
He knew the woman dressed in simple clothes. It was his birth mother. The boy she was dragging with the help of the fox beastman woman was none other than Elias. Damian smiled witnessing that. He had an idea or two why Elias was trying to storm into the event to find him. Damian had refused the kid’s request to join the battle against the demons. It wasn’t just him—Damian had refused to take any man or woman who was under eighteen—no matter which lord was their father or how strong they were. For brats, there was a dungeon to level. Well, not yet—but there would be in the future.
Einar had already made the teams and given him a full report. Damian decided not to start all that just yet. At least a day or two should be given as rest to all of Sanctuary after such events.
Lucian had changed and was trying to sleep, but with the noise outside, that was not going to be easy.
“Wanna sleep somewhere quiet?” Damian asked.
“Where would that be?” she asked, her thin silky nightdress highlighting her curves as she turned in the bed to face him. Fi&nd$ t#[email protected] c.hap!t*er’#s sou#r@ce on MV.L%E!M*PYR#.&
Damian stopped removing his fancy clothes and grinned sheepishly. Taking their bed with them, Damian and Lucian walked into a waygate he had created.
“Wow..” Lucian muttered.
The sky was the clearest it could ever be, all the stars and lights bright and much closer to them than it ever was on Earth or the planet tof the pigmen. It was a sandy island Damian had spotted in the middle of the ocean with only a couple of trees and a rocky hill.
Damian smiled, seeing her bright face. He placed a hand on her slender waist. She looked into his eyes as both of them slowly ascended in the cool night breeze to sleep at the top of the rocky hill.
