The Runic Alchemist

Chapter 669 - 669: The Iceblood Trial 10

Seven feet tall, half man, half part of the wyvern family, the Drakyn—with a few silver scales on his arm, deep clear blue eyes, and silver silky hair—was locked in a contest of power against Lucian. She was clad in her steel armor, enhancing her blue, cold aura. Still, she was a second-ranker—even if a prestigious job holder, she was no match for a real emperor-rank beast in a direct contest of power.

The Drakyn pushed her back. She slid across the snow and launched dozens of giant, sharp icicles toward the Drakyn, but before any of them could land, Lucian received a powerful kick to her stomach, sending her flying—breaking even the ice wall Damian had made behind her, creating a hole. The speed of the armor-clad knight was even faster than Damian had assumed it would be.

Lucian was dragged through the snowy land amid crowded tribesmen, who were running away to dodge both the flying ice and Lucian herself. Before long, Lucian buried her sword in the snow and stopped herself. The Drakyn was right behind her though—a set of white wings stretching wide from his back. He flapped them just once and reached Lucian at supernatural speed, his white sword raised high.

Lucian saw him coming and used her master-level footwork to deflect the powerful attack to the side. The Drakyn quickly changed his attack, pulling the sword back and transferring all his weight onto his left leg. Lucian created a misshapen ice wall between her body and the white sword to slow down the attack—the sword cut through it like it was made of butter. It did the job, though, and gave her a few seconds to react.

The chanting had finished. A 20-meter-long big blue water dragon soared through the air and started circling around the Drakyn. He hacked at it with his sword, and when that proved fruitless, launched into flight. The dragon was fast, though. The Drakyn was fast on land, but in the air, his speed was not as impressive. The water dragon wrapped itself around him, and soon followed a dozen big blue aura slashes from Lucian.

The Drakyn saw them and forcefully moved to the side, but the seven arcs were not in a single line. Before he could move again, Lucian used a short wormhole and came out right above his head, aiming directly for it. The Drakyn pushed himself back forcefully, successfully saving himself from Lucian’s strike, but the aura slash hit the coiling water dragon—and it started freezing all over in a second.

While falling down, Lucian generated over a dozen giant icicles and launched them all toward the struggling Drakyn. Some landed, making it harder for him to find even a second to get out of the frozen water dragon. Lucian let herself fall and, when she was about to hit the ground, used the wormhole again to harness gravity and kick the trapped Drakyn.

The force exuded by the Drakyn was overwhelming, though, and with a few seconds of effort, he forced the ice to break around his body. The pieces of shattered ice fell as the Drakyn grabbed Lucian’s leg and threw her with tremendous force straight down—then followed up with a powerful blue fire breath. The force of it was enough to melt glaciers. Lucian quickly pulled out a steel shield from her spatial storage and activated the golden shield spell while still falling.

The clash was going on in the middle of the Tribe Alliance army. Seeing Lucian falling down on her back with a shield in hand, the tribesmen charged toward her to take advantage of the situation. But Damian flicked his two hands and created a thick barrier-dome, some 400 meters wide. Before it was completed, he used custom wormholes to send everyone inside the barrier outside—dropping them onto their own people from a few meters high, not receiving much injury.

The tribesmen hacked away at the golden barrier, but it was made extra powerful by Damian to handle the Drakyn’s attacks. Even while hurling continuous blue fire onto Lucian, Damian could see the Drakyn’s eyes looking up at him. The battle continued once Lucian regained her footing.

Damian looked back and saw Sam toying with the black crow, sending his lightning bolts behind it and controlling it to chase them around while sitting beside the Metalwoman without any care. The princess and her companions had their mouths wide open, seeing the weird scene. Sam noticed his gaze and said,

“They’re acting up!”

Damian looked behind Sam and the others—indeed, the royal army was not moving forward much. He quickly flew near the princess and others and took them back to the middle of the battlefield. He let them fight to make it look desperate enough. Soon the King and others noticed them, and orders started changing.

The tribe army was indeed numerous, and there was no way the royal army could contend against them. Still, the soldiers on the wall started launching burning arrows and oil barrels, along with their mages launching long-range spells, helping their people. The tribesmen could not get close to the wall, fearing certain death. And without any clear orders, the warriors of the tribe were just doing their own thing in small and big groups of their own.

The people of their tribe that had once come to rescue them had now joined up with them to kill as many royal soldiers as possible. Some groups of tribesmen had come far into the royal army side, while some remained on the edges. Discipline was indeed coming into quite a use for the human army. They were slowly defending, fighting—moving forward or backward as needed—and slowly making their way ahead to save their princess. It was not without sacrifices, though.

The princess’s group was tired, but Damian let them fight, saving them when it got too overwhelming. He didn’t do any flashy moves or spells to reveal his powers to both armies.

His eyes were still mostly focused on Lucian’s fight.
