The Runic Alchemist

Chapter 585 - 585: Battle At The Edge Of The Snow Valley 5

It was a towering, giant black pigman—some 600 to 700 meters high.

Emperor rank was not the end of evolution for these things? They could evolve further? So that was why..

Bloodedge did not want to thin out his 10 million black pigman army by making them fight constantly—he wanted to force the evolution of just one pigman. Just one of this size inside the narrow valley would be the most disastrous thing to fight. And if it was surrounded by emperor-ranked black ones? Nothing in the pigman warrior’s armory could stop that kind of monstrosity.

The evolution had given the pigman one singular eye instead of two. It was big and filled with rage—just like every single black one around it.

It was over. They couldn’t fight this thing.

Sam canceled his skill and was about to plunge his hands inside the half-filled mana container at his side to activate the wormhole back to the laser cannon team, When suddenly an enormous wave of powerful air forced him to fall to his knees. It made him weaker somehow? He felt like he wanted to throw up right then and there. Nauseous? What was happening?

Sam forced himself, with great effort, to look up—and what he saw made his face freeze in terror. An enormous wave of pink psychic energy was coming toward them. It looked like it was moving in slow motion through the mid-air.

What luck? The most fucked-up, power-holding black one was the one who evolved?

Sam tried with painful effort to get up, but the advance force of the energy wave pinning him and Einar was too powerful. Lyska and Rurik soon noticed them and, having no other option, grabbed them with their giant hands and started to run back, out of the range of the enormous attack.

Their minds would shatter if something like that hit them directly. Even Rurik, who was holding Sam, was bleeding from his nose and breathing hard. For the simple fire-element pigmen, psychic attacks were a nuisance unlike any other. The runic bracelet that was supposed to protect them from such attacks wasn’t effective against an assault of such terrifying scale.

It wasn’t as easy as that, though. They had ignored someone—but that someone was not going to ignore them.

One after another, over tens of blood-red arcs were launched behind Rurik and Lyska’s backs. They too could hear it and tried their best to zigzag away, but the attacks were not that easy to shake off. And they didn’t stop either. Before the massive wave of psychic energy hit the ground behind them, Bloodedge had already launched over 50 blood-red arcs. Most were expertly dodged by the two physically powerful pigman Transcendents—but not all were dodged.

When the powerful pink wave hit the snow and a massive explosion went off behind them, Rurik—carrying Sam—couldn’t hear the last few attacks and had to look back to dodge them. The few seconds it took cost them dearly, as Rurik failed to dodge the last two attacks. His legs and back received the full force of the powerful arcs, leaving long gashes that dripped blood continuously.

The force of the arcs sent Rurik tumbling, and he fell. Sam was flung off into the cold snowland. The wave of psychic energy was now too close, and it was heavily messing with their internal organs, making them bleed from their orifices. Sam could barely see, blood filling his eyes—yet he could hear, and somewhat fuzzily see, a figure running fast toward them from the direction of the explosion.

Bloodedge.

His teeth were gnashing tightly as his hands gripped two swords, his face nothing short of animalistic.

Why the fuck was this guy not affected by the psychic attack? The dark powers gave him some kind of immunity? That was such clear cheating. Even the thousands of emperor-ranked elite army members, along with the giant monster, were charging straight toward them from the broken ice wall.

Sam once again tried to gather all his energy and reach for the mana container. He couldn’t keep enough focus—his mind was being assaulted by overwhelming psychic energy. He had never been good at conjuring mana threads to begin with.

Was this the end? Fuck.. There were so many things he wanted to do. Grace.. Damian.. Uncle..

Rurik had already pulled himself up and, though injured, was ready to face Bloodedge—blood dripping from all over his body. The guy was no match for Bloodedge, even at full strength. Humans were too tricky an opponent for the simple pigmen..

Sam couldn’t even see Lyska and Einar. Hopefully, they got away..

What a pathetic end. Why did he ever think he could replicate ridiculous plans like Damian? Damian always made sure to protect the people who relied on him. Unlike Sam—who couldn’t even survive long enough to make a dent in a millions-strong enemy army. Worse.. He got others involved too.

However, the moment Sam was waiting for—as Bloodedge came closer and closer to Rurik at high speed—did not come to pass.

Suddenly, a burst of powerful light flashed across the sky. Sam could barely make out the source, but the burst of lasers were continuously being fired directly at Bloodedge and the massive creature behind him, surrounded by thousands of emperor-ranked black monsters. It looked small since it came from far above—but when it landed, it left giant craters of powerful light laser force.

A laser cannon in the air?

Finally, Sam’s eyes cleared of blood and haze for a second—revealing what had attacked Bloodedge, stopping him and already killing dozens of black pigmen crossing the broken ice wall.

Dreamlight.

For a second, Sam felt relief—that today wasn’t his end. But then he remembered who was piloting the thing. It wasn’t him.. It was Elias. And fear replaced that brief relief. The fear deepened as dozens of still-living flying monsters got behind the enormous metal ship. Dreamlight maneuvered somewhat expertly around them, changing direction faster than the monsters—getting behind them to shoot them down with its powerful lasers. Somehow surviving and continuously firing down on Bloodedge, forcing him to use his black shield again as he made a hasty retreat.
