Chapter 891: Chapter 664: Chaos_2

If this were on the United States East Coast, one had to go around the Panama Canal, not only wasting time but also adding a significant cost to the ship ticket.

More importantly, most of Australasia’s immigrant ships were on the West coast of the United States; after all, it is closer to Australasia, just across the Pacific Ocean.

For such reasons, a massive influx of unemployed populations rapidly poured into the West Coast, precipitating the economic collapse of the West alongside the Eastern Coast. Consequently, the states on the West Coast harbored even more resentment towards the states on the Eastern Coast.

All States, led by California State, demanded that the eastern states control the unemployed population, reducing the speed at which they were moving westward.

But the problem was that these unemployed populations were clearly beyond control, incapable of halting their struggle for livelihood by mere governmental decrees.

Moreover, heading west to states less affected by the crisis and other countries had become the only survival strategy these unemployed individuals could conceive.

...

If All States governments directly sought to extinguish these unemployed people’s hopes, wouldn’t that equate to outrightly offending them?

With these considerations in mind, the eastern states quickly rejected the western states’ requests, stating that where these people chose to go was their freedom, and no one had the right to interfere.

Due to the laissez-faire approach of the eastern states, a vast number of unemployed populations flooded into the western states, causing unemployment rates to spike dramatically.

As these unemployed people from the East were willing to do almost anything for a job that could feed them, accepting longer working hours, less income, and more arduous labor, it became several times more difficult for the local population of the western states to find work.

Thus, the conflict between the eastern and western states naturally erupted, and it even nearly escalated into an East-West civil war in America.

The dispute was eventually quelled, but not by the American Government, rather by those consortia that considered themselves unable to withstand another civil war.

This is also understandable, after all, America was already in the vortex of an economic crisis.

If they were to endure another civil war, the pain inflicted upon the United States could take more than ten years to heal, akin to the harm full-scale war had brought to France.

More devastatingly, these about ten years would be enough for Britain to solidify its strength and firmly secure its position as the world’s foremost superpower.

As for countries, including France and Australasia, they would close the gap with America, and America’s once-prided economic scale would no longer be an advantage.

It’s worth mentioning that although the American consortia appeased the anger of the West coast states, they had to agree to one condition – to support a President who would satisfy the West coast states.

It was evident that President Coolidge had already lost the trust of all American People; if not for America’s current need for stability, President Coolidge would have long said goodbye to his presidential seat, and even faced a Congressional investigation.

Although America’s military strength was not formidable, American capitalists had inherited the “advantage” of European capitalists: the wanton control of the government, even capable of initiating impeachment and Congressional inquiries against the President of America.

The conflict between the eastern and western Coastal states of America, which almost caused an East-West war, naturally came to the attention of Arthur and even became major news broadcast worldwide.

Arthur found this very regrettable. If it had turned into a war between the states of America’s East and West Coastline, it would have been the best time to interfere in American affairs.

But for now, the American People clearly did not wish for a civil war, so finding a legitimate reason to interfere in America’s affairs still proved quite difficult.

After all, America is still a Powerful Nation, and ultimately, no country in the world could trample on a superpower because the Powers sit at the very peak of the world.

In invading a superpower, one must consider not only the military strength that the superpower possesses but also the international repercussions that would ensue.

Without an appropriate reason, it is not suitable to initiate war against America, because America’s population of hundreds of millions would certainly become an obstacle to war.

Invasion wars may not garner the support of the people, but wars defending the territory generally do.

It’s not difficult to oppose the American government, but if the enemy is the entire American population of hundreds of millions, winning the war becomes much harder.

Though conflicts between the East and West Coasts did not trigger further warfare, Arthur remained highly concerned about the situation in the United States

Arthur was curious whether the renowned President Roosevelt could rise once more during this economic crisis and enact his historic New Deal.

After all, this economic crisis had arrived a few years earlier than in history, and the current President was still Calvin Coolidge, with Hoover preceding Roosevelt, which added some uncertainty to Roosevelt’s prospects of becoming the next President of America.

While the economic crisis caused tremendous harm to the United States, the historical New Deal also allowed America to quickly recover to its pre-war economic size.

One has to admit that President Roosevelt was immensely helpful to America during the economic crisis and World War II, and was the planner behind America’s rapid rise to world supremacy during this time.

If possible, one must try to prevent Roosevelt from becoming the new President of America. Even delaying it by one or two terms could deepen the damage suffered by America in the economic crisis.

If America endured the economic crisis for just a while longer, the impact on the country would be far from minor.

One could even intervene in America directly before Roosevelt becomes President, keeping the history of the United States of America stalled in the economic crisis, adding a few more countries to North America.

If it really becomes impossible to stop Roosevelt from becoming the new President of America, Arthur would have to initiate a desperate plan, making President Roosevelt emulate a few of America’s martyrs and become an assassinated President.

Ultimately, Roosevelt’s threat was too great, as he was a person who could contribute enormously to the development of the nation. To the American people, he was a boon, but to Australasia, a great enemy.

As for whether the assassination of the President would be discovered by the American people, Arthur was quite confident in the capabilities of the Security Intelligence Department.

After all, the Intelligence Department’s expenditures over these past twenty years have been significant, and currently, there is a relatively high number of intelligence personnel planted in various countries.

Particularly with America, viewed by Arthur as the greatest enemy, the various intelligence departments have together planted at least three thousand intelligence personnel in the United States, living under various identities.

Among them are a small number of Indigenous Peoples, who have now become official immigrants of America and obtained American citizenship.

In everyday life, these individuals are just ordinary American citizens. Once summoned by the security departments, they become excellent intelligence personnel ready to sacrifice their lives for the intelligence work of Australasia.

A minority of Indigenous Peoples, due to their identity as Black People, have not aroused suspicion in the United States.

After all, every country knows that there are no Black People in domestic Australasia, and seeing a Black person would definitely not prompt them to think of Australasia.

But in reality, a significant portion of those millions of Black Indigenous Peoples from New Guinea Island have been dispatched to the United States.

It was just that officially, they were normally sent to other countries, as the scheme also involved Africa and other regions, with the United States not being the only exception.

These Black Indigenous Peoples from New Guinea played no small role during the American economic crisis, exacerbating the conflicts between Black and Caucasian People in the United States.

The infamous Black Storm Organization in America, for instance, is led by an Indigenous Person from New Guinea.

Of course, the Black Storm Organization also includes a number of Black People who have been bought by Australasia. These Black People, already dissatisfied with the extreme hatred white people held against them, joined the ranks opposing whites after being slightly instigated.

If Roosevelt truly becomes the next President of America ahead of time, then Arthur would have to reveal some of his hidden cards and employ some measures to end Roosevelt’s presidency.
