Rex placed an arm on the table and pressed an index finger against his throbbing forehead.
His face was dark, showing the silently brewing anger inside him.
“Someone is messing with me…” He started, looking at Kei Xun directly. “I do not know how—and I can’t explain it well, but I’m certain someone is messing with me. Sometimes, randomly, things around me moved on their own, but I couldn’t sense any power behind them. It doesn’t only move either, it shot towards me, but there’s no real killing intent behind it.”
It’s not that Rex trusted Kei Xun to tell her things.
But he wanted to know whether she was the culprit or not.
Rex was quite confident in deducing whether she was the one behind this or not through her reaction.
And from how she looked right now, she doesn’t seem to be the culprit.
Kei Xun’s breaths remained neutral and stable, her heartbeat remained constant and unchanged, and no trace of vindication on her face. She looked like someone completely uninvolved, like she was only just learning about it now.
For a moment there, she considered her thoughts about this.
Then, she answered with decorum.
“Upon reaching the First Stage of Invincibility, the Scion will become an Apparition. And above it, at the Second Stage of Invincibility, the Scion will become either an Overlord or a Sage. At that stage, the abilities one would possess are simply God-like.” Kei Xun raised her index finger, pointing at the sun. “I have the power of the sun, and I can see everything beneath the sun’s light. Transforming Mira, for example…”
Rex couldn’t hide his frown.
He assumed no one knew what he did to Mira, but he was wrong, very wrong.
But then again, he wouldn’t have expected Kei Xun to have this kind of God-like ability.
“Relax.” Kei Xun raised her hand in a poise, a silent promise that she would keep his secret. “What I’m saying is—the entity messing with you is real, but it’s not me. Someone out there might have that kind of power. And I doubt it’s any of the Scions… this feels like someone else entirely.”
Kei Xun wasn’t dumb.
She knew that Rex was telling this to test her, to see whether she was the one behind this.
But she wasn’t.
“There are a few Echoes with telekinetic abilities, but for someone to move things near you—without being there themselves, they’d have to be exceptionally powerful,” Kei Xun added, a subtle curl forming at the corner of her lips. “A strong enemy… All the more reason for you to accept my offer, isn’t it?”
Rex got two things from her.
First, this mysterious person who was messing with him is not Kei Xun or one of the Scions.
Second, he learned more about the path to Invincibility.
<Congratulations on achieving the Invincibility Knowledge achievement!>
<Obtained 1x Blue Breaker, 1x Soul Forgery, and 10,000,000 gold!>
Rex read the notifications and wasn’t surprised to find that he had completed another achievement.
Considering that he got information regarding the path to Invincibility, this was expected.
Now, his path forward became clearer.
Scanning the items he obtained briefly, he found that both were incredibly useful.
Gold is always useful in case he needs to know something, so it’s good to have an excess of it.
For the Blue Breaker, it was an item designed to help him fracture or soften the first layer of his chosen Echo, allowing him to advance through the Master Immortal Spirit rank. On top of that, the other item, the Soul Forgery item, was an extraordinary item capable of enhancing his Soul Artifacts further.
Right now, the Red Dawn of Kaiser and the Aegis of Moon Sentinel have already reached Manifestation.
The next step was guiding them to Solidification, and this item could help make that possible.
Rex made a mental note to use them once he got back before focusing on Kei Xun again.
“Are you sure it’s fine telling me about your ability like this?”
Rex raised a questioning brow.
Free information is always appreciated, but they weren’t close—not even remotely.
In fact, half an hour ago, they’d been enemies.
For Kei Xun to reveal her God-like ability so casually now felt far too careless, and Rex knew she was not the type to make that kind of mistake—this was deliberate. But then again, though his suspicion of her only grew, the value she has given to him willingly must count for something.
“It’s fine…” She shrugged. “After all, what can you even do, dear?”
Rex snorted, but he understood where her confidence was coming from.
He stood up and reached out his hand for a handshake.
“Then I’ll be looking forward to your guidance.”
Since this was a great opportunity, he decided to accept Kei Xun’s offer to help.
I have the System with me. I can double-check whether her guidance is harmful or not, so this is fine.
I hope you’re not going to try and play me, Divine Saintess. Or else, you’ll pay a hefty price.
Kei Xun stood up and shook Rex’s hand firmly, affirming their deal.
Now, both of them aren’t enemies, but fragile friends instead.
“I’ll come to meet you tomorrow morning. Be ready.”
“Okay.”
As soon as the conversation ended, Kei Xun unceremoniously disappeared.
Rex fixed his clothes and headed for the door.
In front of the door, April and Viora were waiting, and they both were wearing hideous expressions.
Both were feeling sour at what had happened earlier.
“Come on, let’s go back to the others. I can’t stay here any longer.”
Rex walked past both of them, not addressing their soured feelings.
Behind, April and Viora looked into the second floor and saw that Kei Xun was nowhere to be seen.
She has already left.
As Rex stepped onto the landing, halfway down the staircase, April stopped him.
Not wanting to intrude on what was clearly a serious conversation—Viora quietly excused herself and made her way downstairs, back to the social gathering. When she was finally out of earshot, April gazed at Rex, her face clearly holding things she hadn’t yet said.
“Can we talk?”
“People might be searching for me if I disappeared for too long, maybe later.”
“Okay. Let’s talk while we move through the crowd.”
Rex knew that he couldn’t deny this talk.
He did kick April out earlier, so this is the least she could do.
Both of them made their way downstairs, smiling at people who acknowledged them with a nod, and headed for the less crowded space—in the grand hall. Rex was taking a cup of refreshment while April stood beside him, also pretending to do the same.
“If it’s about the Divine Saintess, I can’t tell you anything.”
Rex started bluntly.
No matter how hard April tries, he’s not going to tell her anything.
“May I ask why?”
“Because it can get you killed. It’s better for you to really not know anything, trust me.”
April didn’t argue.
It seemed Rex’s decision was final about this, and pushing further wouldn’t get her anywhere.
“How’s the plan to reach Sky City coming along? Did you get my message?”
“Yes, I got your message, but I don’t think Duke Lorcan is going to be easy to coax.”
Other than having Duke Lorcan’s seal to enter the Sky City, there are also other lists of requirements that are a hassle, but easy to complete. He already prepared most of them, mainly through Rosa, while he focused on getting close to Duke Lorcan.
He hadn’t dropped the big question to Duke Lorcan, but he could feel that it was still a big ask.
Not to mention all his talk about wanting a grandson… If I asked him now, he’d probably tell me to hurry up and impregnate Princess Davina in exchange. I already have a daughter on the way—back in the Mortal Realm, back home—I can’t possibly have another child here, right? Forget Evelyn, Adhara, and Gisella. Calidora would be the worst to deal with.
Rex shook his head, shivering at the thought.
Of course, this wasn’t the only reason.
He also needed to make sure that going there would not be a waste of time.
“Then what are you going to do now?”
April asked, sipping her drink, a flicker of curiosity glinting in her eyes.
But he remained silent.
It was hesitation to share, and that offended April greatly.
“Ten years meant nothing to you, huh? I even helped you find out the requirements—and alter myself permanently.”
“It’s not like that… Okay, I’ll tell you. I’m going to find another way to find the person I’m looking for in the Sky City. I’m leaving the duke’s mansion tomorrow if all goes well.”
“You’re going to find someone who is from the Sky City…”
Hearing this, Rex nodded, quite surprised that April could instantly deduce what he was trying to do.
“There you are, I was wondering where you’ve gone to…”
Before he could respond—hoping that April might know or have heard of someone from Sky City, but unlikely—a voice interrupted their conversation, sharp and sudden. Both of them tensed immediately as the voice was impossible to mistake.
Princess Liliana stopped beside the two of them with an insincere smile that didn’t seem right.
Almost instantly, April bowed a little.
“Princess…”
“You are?”
“I’m the thirteenth princess of the Aurelius House, April. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
“Ah…” Princess Liliana nodded, turned to Rex, and then back to April again. “And what does the thirteenth princess of the Aurelius House have to say to Princess Davina’s fiancé in the corner of the hall like this? I’m curious.”
April forced a smile.
“I was congratulating Lord Rex for becoming a knight, I apologize if m-“
“No, you didn’t. You were talking about the Sky City.”
Princess Liliana cut her sentence short, still smiling despite being lied to directly.
Both of them knew that her smile was only a façade as the tension in the air rose the moment she appeared.
“She can’t tell you that, because I told her not to.”
Rex intervened, placing a hand in front of Princess Liliana’s stomach, barring her way.
“Oh, is that so? And why are you hiding it?”
“Do you like sticking into other people’s business?”
“If it’s coming from someone who’s going to marry my sister, then yes, I made it my business to know.”
Not even answering back, Rex nudged his chin away, signaling for April to leave.
April took this chance, bowing at Princess Liliana again.
“I’ll be excusing myself, then. I think it’s inappropriate for me to stay.”
Naturally, Princess Liliana tried to stop her, but Rex had already used his body to block her away.
Only when April slipped away that he step aside.
Princess Liliana looked at Rex and sneered.
“You will talk with my sister after this.”
She walked away after saying that, probably going to Princess Davina in the crowd.
Rex cursed inwardly as now—both sisters knew that he wanted to go to the Sky City.
And frankly, he didn’t know how to feel right now.
Standing on the other corner, talking with other nobles, was Empress Morgana.
The woman before her spoke about the recent shift in the Voidal Monsters’ behavior within her territory, but Empress Morgana barely listened. Her attention kept drifting, her gaze stealing glances at Rex over and over again.
She saw the commotion from start to finish.
The social gathering continued until the sun was about to set.
Near the end, Rex tried talking with Empress Morgana after consulting with Rosa.
He eased the conversation by thanking her for being the one to lead the ceremony, and their conversation gradually developed into her recent coronation. Rex decided to bluntly ask her about the situation in the council, leading the talk towards her achievement.
But Empress Morgana politely swerved from that topic.
Even when Rex pressed further, she denied him.
She said that an achievement to sway the heart of the nobles is too far away from Rex’s reach.
In short, she told him that he would be of no help.
However, when the crowd began to leave, a guard outside came inside and gave Rex a letter.
Rex looked at the sender and was surprised to see that it came from Empress Morgana.
Inside, she changed her mind, telling him that she might have a use for him.
