Rex grimaced, his heart sank to his stomach at the sight of the Invincible Apparition.
Just days ago, he realized that it was still alive and lingering.
He wasn't ready for another confrontation but as always, things didn't go his way.
Like a ghost, the Invincible Apparition stood there—looking at him.
On its face was this eerie look that was capable of piercing through the bones with its coldness.
Managing to exact his revenge on Ruston, the one who killed his biological parents—he thought the Invincible Apparition that was born from his hatred of the Supernaturals, or specifically, the Werewolves, would make it wane away.
But it didn't.
For some reason, the Invincible Apparition still stubbornly persists.
And from the looks of it, somehow, it has gotten stronger.
Panting heavily from the exhaustion, he glared at the Invincible Apparition—the shock and fear that he wore during their previous encounter was nowhere to be seen. Rex was now, way calmer, his previous reaction was no more than the work of being caught off guard. Now that he knows the Invincible Apparition still lingers, he's more composed than before.
Even then, a bead of cold sweat could be seen dropping on the side of his face.
I thought he lived inside of me, how could he show up like this? He's stronger.
"Tell me," The Invincible Apparition said, snapping Rex out of his daze. "Do you feel content?"
"…"
Rex was silent, he didn't know whether he should entertain the Invincible Apparition or not.
Just then, however, he was taken aback when the Invincible Apparition blinked in and out of existence in a fraction of a second. Rex blinked his eyes—as his pupils dilated, seeing the Invincible Apparition was inches away from his pace, "I said… do you feel content?"
"Yes," Rex replied, recovering from his surprise. "If it's about Ruston, yes, I'm content"
"I see…" the Invincible Apparition pulled away and turned. "Is it because our parents are avenged?"
Despite his reluctance to answer, Rex nodded.
He didn't know for what reason the Invincible Apparition came to talk to him and he also didn't know where this conversation was going, but his lips answered on their own, "The Supernaturals are forced to, they attacked because of the hatred the Ancient Humans created. Ruston died regardless of the reason for his actions, he already paid the price. If I want more, I should aim for the Ancient Humans which I am aiming for right now regardless of my reason"
Amidst his words, Rex realized that even though he had forgiven Ruston, his path still goes there.
It's without a doubt that he would clash against the Ancient Humans in the future.
Now that he has gained access to a lot of information, Rex knows the truth.
Ruston and all the other Supernaturals were sealed, the last thing they remembered was the war they had against the Ancient Humans—naturally—awaking in the new era with that gear in mind, they went on a rampage out of anger and hate. ℞Ἀ₦Ó𐌱Ёș
It was wrong, innocents died, but Rex understood them.
Had he been in their situation, he would probably do the same.
Judging Ruston for doing what he did was a biased view and Rex had already passed that phase.
Upon hearing this, the Invincible Apparition gazed away—his head nodding, "I see…"
A dead pause happened after that before the wind blew weirdly.
Swoosh!
Out of nowhere, faster than a blink, Rex's hand shot to his neck.
His breath hitched as an unseen force clamped tightly around his throat.
Before he could react, he was yanked off the ground, his feet dangling helplessly.
Soon, his instincts kicked in—he thrashed, his muscles straining, but his powers refused to obey as if stripped away, leaving him Human against something far beyond mortal. Gasping, his windpipe was crushed under the grip as Rex's glare locked onto the Invincible Apparition in front of him.
It loomed before him, its expression twisted into one full of hate and anger.
Using an unseen force, the Invincible Apparition was able to lift him from the ground like a helpless kid.
"Let go of me!" Rex remained composed despite losing breaths. "You have no power over me because your time has already passed. Ruston is dead, deal with it and move on. Only the weak dwell in the past and can't let go. In truth, you're weaker than me"
Despite the mockeries, the Invincible Apparition didn't react.
Not so much as his expression changed even a little.
Krrk!
Slowly, almost mockingly, the Invincible Apparition drew Rex closer, its hollow visage inches from his, emanating a terror that could gnaw on any soul, "Do you think our dead parents would agree with that? Do you not remember their screams as they were butchered by that Werewolf? Negative emotions need constant attention—while you lost your hatred, I kept attention to mine and it's still burning brightly! That doesn't make me weak but stronger…"
"My parents would accept this, Ruston is dead! It's done!" Rex answered, his eyes blazing.
But then, a playful smile crept to the Invincible Apparition.
Leaning closer, he then whispered into Rex's ear, "Ruston's death, our parents will accept that. But do you think they would accept their precious son, sheltering the family of their killer? If they were alive, what do you think they would say to you about that?"
Upon hearing this, Rex's heart skipped a beat.
He didn't expect the Invincible Apparition to bring that up, bring Agatha up.
"Just because Ruston sells you her dream of a perfect world, you forgot that she's the family of your parents' killer?" the Invincible Apparition continued, his tone laced with disdain and mockery. "Now who do you think is weaker, me, the weakling who can't move on from the past, or you, the person who shelters the family of his own parents' killer?"
Rex's expression darkens, he didn't forget about that but he was never confronted like this.
Of course, he wanted to answer but there were no words that came out of his mouth.
All were stuck in his throat.
"Good news, though…" The Invincible Apparition whispered. "You don't have to be the one to do it"
Rex's body stiffened, he turned and met the Invincible Apparition's gaze.
"What games are you playing…?" He whispered lightly.
But instead of answering, the Invincible Apparition only smiled as his body began to dissipate.
Seconds later, he was gone—dissipating into nothing.
At the exact same time, Rex saw Iris coming back—dragging the result of her hunt behind her.
However, as soon as she saw Rex, she dropped the carcasses in shock.
"Your Majesty?!" Iris called in shock and eyes widened, seeing Rex was in the air, floating.
In the next second, the force gripping Rex's throat disappeared as he fell back to the ground, coughing hard a couple of times. Iris came and checked on him, tapping—and rubbing his back as she could not understand what attacked him like this.
She scanned the area but there was nothing but snow, nobody was around.
A troubled look crossed her face as she looked back at Rex.
Moments later.
Squelch!
Rex leaned back and sank into a crouched rest, his bloodied hands absently rubbing his stomach.
Crimson streaked his face and fingers—remnants of the mutated animal carcasses he had eaten.
The metallic scent clung to him, mingling with the faint warmth of freshly healed skin—the beasts were mostly seventh-rank realm but they were good enough to replenish his drained stamina, restore a little bit of his strength, and seal the gashes marking his body.
He looked ahead at the bones of the carcasses and stared at them vacantly.
Since his fasting streak was over—shattered by survival, his decision to not hide his other side again, and the fact that Kyran had copied him, his resolve was solidified. Werewolves thrived on flesh, and now Rex embraced the primal truth without hesitation.
Once he recovered, he rested a bit—his mind wandering to the Invincible Apparition earlier.
He could even disturb me now… Back then, he couldn't so what gave him this? He mentioned help back when I was undergoing the soul-strengthening process, and now he mentioned Agatha. Is she the reason? Is his hatred so powerful that bringing Agatha makes him awaken again?
Rex was torn, he didn't know how he could deal with the Invincible Apparition.
Especially since that thing was a part of him.
And from the way he talked, Rex could guess what his intention was.
The Invincible Apparition wanted to take over, to be the one in control like he did back then.
Something that Rex would never do again.
And it was clear that once he achieved it, he would kill Agatha or worse.
Pondering about the situation made Rex rub his throbbing forehead, he had a lot of things he needed to do and now the Invincible Apparition was disturbing him. Not to mention, it did not happen in his mind either since he was really lifted from the ground earlier.
Rubbing his face, he shook his head—focusing on what lies ahead first.
Tomorrow, Rex will be going to the Spirit Realm.
He needs to go there for Nivellen and also the System's relentless pressure.
But since his soul-strengthening process was almost a complete failure, he needed to find another way in order to properly enter the Spirit Realm. Tomorrow loomed like a predator on the horizon, but tonight was his plan. System, is there any other way to enter the Spirit Realm—and stay there as long as I want? Or at least a few months?
<Yes, does the user want to purchase the information?>
How much is it?
<100 million gold is the cost to purchase the information!>
100 million?! I didn't even have half of that, how can it be so expensive?
<Notice: The Spirit Realm is a higher plane than the mortal realm. Anything related to that realm would cost significantly more than any information about the mortal realm. Does the user have other requests? Please be advised that purchasing information would be cheaper if the user knew more or was also more specific about the requests>
Rex knew that already but he was not aware much about the Spirit Realm.
All he knew was that the Spirit Realm was a realm where Spirits lived.
Spirits could enter the Mortal Realm more easily than the people here crossing into the Spirit Realm.
Now Rex knew the reason was because the Spirit Realm is a higher plane than the Mortal Realm.
"Your Majesty…" Iris suddenly called from the side, snapping him out of his mind.
Upon hearing this, Rex glanced at her and waved his hand, "If we're alone, you can drop the formalities"
Gulping harshly, feeling awkward and uneasy to actually calling Rex by his name, Iris decided to ignore that comment and continued, "If it's okay for me to ask, earlier… Is it that kid again? The young scary Human kid we save in your mind?"
"Yes," Rex decided to not hide it. "It's him. Somehow, he could touch reality"
Nodding her head, Iris continued, "And are you strengthening your soul to enter the Spirit Realm?"
"Yes, what about it?"
"The thing is… If that thing could touch reality, his soul must be very strong. You could use him"
"He and I are one. He's me when I'm young"
Continue your adventure at empire
Iris wasn't shocked, she knew about this already since Elder Tilrith said that he was Rex's Inner Fang.
An Inner Fang could take the form of anything and is a part of the Werewolf.
"Well, the thing is…" Iris continued hesitantly, she didn't know how Rex would react to this. "If you, and that thing is one, he shouldn't be able to touch reality. Since he could, he must have a soul of his own or something along that nature. If you want to, you could use him…"
"You mean I should let him take over me?" Rex asked, looking back at her again.
Upon hearing this, Iris nodded hesitantly.
But Rex quickly shut that idea down, "No, that's not going to happen. Not in a million years"
Iris nodded understandably, she expected this answer from him but it didn't hurt to ask.
"Well, there's still one more way I could suggest," She added.
As soon as she said that, Rex's eyes lit up, "What is it? If you know something, tell it to me!"
"Yes," Iris nodded. "You could also let the Spirit Realm morph you, turning you into a spirit…"
