Rex couldn't control his face anymore.
His mind was being overwhelmed with new information that he never knew.
Bad side?
Hearing that the Angels also have a bad side was quite surprising.
Despite the atrocities done by the Supernatural and Humans, he thought there would be one true good.
A race that was really righteous to its core.
But it seemed that was nothing but hopeful thinking.
Then again, from his discussions with others regarding the Angels in the ancient era, every single person he talked with, which also includes the System, stated that the Angels were someone righteous and bear the burden of protecting the weak.
A sole beacon of light amongst the darkness in the ancient era.
Rex was given that kind of impression about the Angels. Not only through words, but their expressions also conveyed the same message.
Or at least, that was what they were like in the past—now they were completely different.
In the end, no powerful race could achieve their position without a dark side. It's impossible.
However, Rex was more focused on what Stelios said in the end.
He's the stick for the Werewolves? My natural hunter? Rex pondered, squinting his eyes as he could feel the combat prowess radiating from Stelios prickling against his skin. Is there really such a thing? An elite force to solely fight the Werewolves?
Registering that to his mind, Rex's eyes burned with an inextinguishable fire of wrath.
So he attacked me because he wanted a piece of me? That's his personal reason?!
Just then, a throb on his cheek snapped him out of his daze, followed by another notification.
<Notice: the user is suffering from pure silver!>
<-30% of all physical stats…>
<Annulled!>
<Due to the user's powerful bloodline, the pure silver's effect has been decreased substantially>
<-5% of all physical stats!>
Upon reading the notification, Rex unconsciously lifted his hand to touch his bleeding cheek.
It seemed the knife that grazed him earlier was also enchanted with pure silver.
"Do you understand it now?" Stelios suddenly said, one corner of his lip curling upward into a wide, nasty smirk. "I'm a Werewolf Hunter, I'm your natural hunter, I'm bred to bestow divine punishment for the Werewolves. In the grand food chain of the world, you're beneath me…"
Rex scoffed, he now understood the situation he was in.
He also understands clearly what this Archangel of Knives wanted from him. Continue reading on empire
Initially, he thought that this was about him coming here but for Stelios—it was another thing entirely.
A more selfish reason from the looks of it.
"So you attacked me for what? A trophy? My head maybe, hung over your wall?" Rex remarked, his voice devoid of fear that Stelios anticipated from unveiling his identity. "Is that what you want? I pity the Angel race for having you as one of the surviving members when the risk of extinction was so close" ℝΆΝöβÊṨ
"No need to provoke me like that, it's futile, I don't really care whether the Angels live or die," Stelios shook his head, utterly indifferent. "As for the trophy… although your head would be quite a good decoration it's too eye-catching, I can't have that. I'm more into your fangs, it'll make a great knife!"
As he said that, he tapped on his chin with a knife—seemingly contemplating.
"The Royal Black Knife," He suddenly said, his eyes gleaming sadistically. "isn't that name rings?"
"Killing me, is that your only goal from this?" Rex asked gravely.
Stelios nodded firmly as he went into his fighting stance, two arms spread and ready with a knife.
"Because I'm the strongest Werewolf in this era?" Rex asked again.
Likewise, Stelios nodded once more with an expectant smile, "Bingo…"
Just then, his eyes turned to Iris on the side—there was a deadly glint in his eyes when he looked at her.
"Iris, he's aiming for me. Don't help me fight," Rex whispered as he channeled his energy, preparing to clash with this insane Archangel. "Run to a save distance, and don't look back. Hide yourself and wait for me, I'll break free from this fool in no time"
Despite wanting to refute, Iris could feel a shiver running down her spine as she met Stelios' gaze.
It was clear that Stelios was an opponent that was out of her league.
Being in the ninth-rank realm wouldn't equate her to an Archangel of Stelios' caliber.
She nodded her head, deciding that this wasn't her fight.
The banter broke abruptly as Stelios unfurled his wings, a stunning pair of deep gold that shimmered with holy energy—a shade far removed from the typical Angels. Normally, Angels would have a bright gold, not this dark one.
He also didn't have the same shade as the other Dark Angels.
It's clear that he wasn't part of the rebellion, so why were his wings still gold?
Based on what Eryndor and the other Angels said—those who stayed a part of Heaven were forced to be turned into Dark Angels. For upper-rank Angels, their wings would be corrupted by their newfound power and turned into either red or purple.
So the sight of Stelios still retaining his color was quite surprising.
Not to mention, he also has holy energy instead of Profane Energy. Which side is he really on?
As Rex thought of that, the air shifted instantly.
Seeing Stelios lowering his stance to dash, Rex's eyes dilated—this was an attacking stance.
Here he comes!
Swoosh!
Kaboom!
Rex was struck by another wave of energy, the effect from the Halo of Blades suddenly surged to the point that its cruel energy was overwhelming his regeneration. His muscles tensed as the healing that was matching with the Halo of Blades now was being pushed back.
His severed arm which was already halfway through began to shorten again.
Gritting his teeth, Rex unleashed a feral growl.
Knowing that there was no point in pulling back against Stelios, he unleashed the full force of his King Marks. A swirl of tri-colored kingly energy ignited around him, encasing his form like a living shield—and in an instant—it overpowered the Halo of Blades' effect and regenerated his severed arm.
Focusing ahead, Rex's eyes dilated when two knives that sliced through the air blurred towards him.
One flew towards him while the other toward Iris, who had already begun to flee.
"Executor Slash!" Rex activated his skill, encasing his claws with sizzling energy.
He cleaved the blade meant for him in half and snatched the second mid-flight, sparing Iris from a mortal strike. However, as he turned to confront Stelios, there was nothing ahead—only a faint swirl of deep golden energy, dissipating like a whisper on the wind.
A portal? He could slice through dimension too?!
Rex realized that Stelios had an ability that was akin to Nivellen's power to cut through dimensions.
Darting his gaze over his shoulder, his eyes bulged as he quickly moved.
Behind him, Iris focused her dark nature energy to heighten her senses as well as increase her speed—but even then, she was not faster than Stelios. Glancing to her side—her eyes widened when she saw a golden tear in the dimension appearing right next to her.
Coming out of it was Stelios, ready with his blades stabbing forward.
However, in the nick of the moment as Iris was about to be stabbed in her chest, Rex came through.
Rex stood in the way and parried the blades with his claws.
In the next moment, he was locked in a power struggle between him and Stelios.
"Go!" Rex shouted loudly.
Upon hearing this, Iris quickly turned and sprinted away—leaving the two behind.
As Iris fled, Rex looked at Stelios as a frown crept to his face.
He's matching my strength with the help of that damn wings, I need to use my red force further!
Rex fixed his eyes on the wings—and saw that Stelios was being empowered by the holy energy that was flowing into him from the wings. Considering that an Angel's wings aren't limbs but rather, battle equipment, this made sense.
In the next second, his eyes flashed as he scanned the wings.
He wanted to know exactly what an Angel's wings provided for the Angels.
But as he did that, he grunted when Stelios pushed him back.
Despite exerting his strength as much as he could, Rex was pushed back two steps when Stelios made a flap with his wings. He only managed to stand his ground when he activated his red force, Stelios was really pushing him to his limits.
"I thought she was your slave, why care?" Stelios commented with a smirk.
Hearing this, Rex smirked back, "I thought you were after me, why bring a harmless peon into this?"
"So that's your weakness, Rex Silverstar…" Stelios' eyes blazed with cruelty as made a subtle glance at Iris in the distance. "Even for a Hybrid like you, I guess there's still a dominant side. In your case, your Werewolf side is stronger, valuing bonds. Now I'm beginning to doubt how you attain this height of strength with that weak mentality"
Angered, Rex parried the knives and made a savage upswing with his claws.
His swing caught Stelios across his chin, lifting him from the ground.
Feeling the weight behind the punch, Stelios smirked as he looked down at Rex tauntingly.
Not allowing Rex to make a follow-up—he slashed a dimensional tear into the space behind him and got into it, disappearing completely. Rex looked left and right while sprinting lightly towards Iris in the distance, who Stelios would be targeting.
Along the way, he kept his senses up—searching for where Stelios would strike next.
I need to stop him from getting away like this and also, this is my chance.
<Realm of Kings: Pseudo Tenth-rank realm!>
<King of Kings skill is fully activated, and the Brand of Crown has now taken effect!>
Seeing these two notifications, Rex's eyes glistened as he waited for his chance to appear.
Soon enough, his eyes caught sight of another tear near Iris.
Considering how twisted—and insane this Archangel of Knives was—Rex could tell that he wasn't going to stop aiming for Iris and kill her to inflict mental damage on him. But he saw through that, everything fell to his calculations.
Swoosh!
"I'll make a necklace out of your ears," Stelios said hauntingly with a knife above his head.
He was ready to swing down.
Iris drew her bow but her reaction was a second too late, she could use her bow to block this.
Glancing her eyes to the side, she also saw Rex was too far away.
Unlike earlier, he wouldn't be able to reach Iris in time.
'It's over…' Iris gulped harshly, praying to the Mother of Dark Nature inside to accept her soul back into the earth as there was no chance she could survive this attack. She closed her eyes as the knife was about to reach her, 'I've lived long enough, everything else after that is only a bonus for me…'
Clang!
Just then, her eyes flashed open when a metallic sound echoed.
She looked at Stelios and found a barrier blocking the trajectory of his knife.
"What…? What is this?" Iris gasped in shock.
On the other hand, Stelios smiled devilishly knowing who was the cause of this.
He looked down at his arm and saw a golden crown mark there, he was branded.
Swoosh!
Closing in the distance in a blur, moving at a blitzing fast speed, Rex used the Primordial Step skill and reached below Stelios in an instant. He clutched his hand into a fist, charging the Blood Moon kingly energy into it, and swung upwards.
"Brutal Impulse!"
BOOM!!
Stelios ate a powerful beam from the Brutal Impulse Moon Ability directly.
He was only able to fold his wings to protect himself as he got flung skyward.
Reacting quickly, Stelios slashed to create another tear in the dimension and frowned when nothing appeared from his slash. He couldn't pierce through the dimension, as if there was another layer that was stopping the edge of his knife to pierce through.
Blinking his eyes, Stelios could see invisible chains wrapping around his body.
It didn't bind his physique but rather his presence to real space.
He couldn't go through dimensions because of that.
'Good… this is going to be worth it' Stelios thought, excited by this battle.
Just then, Rex arrived above him—swirling with a devastating amount of kingly energies.
Without hesitation, he swung down, aiming to pierce Stelios and end the battle.
But it was then that Stelios' lips curled.
Boom!
