Chapter 1723: Bad news

The Abaddon Inn was a broken as hell technique, and only worked because the laws within Abaddon were in a constant state of flux. The underlying premise of the ability was in depriving the target of the ability to influence laws while ensuring that the user’s connection to the laws wasn’t affected.

But even depriving the target of the ability to influence laws was only the first step, albeit an important one for more than one reason. The technique immobilised the body, not by restricting the body, but by targeting the connection between the soul and the body.

He affected that connection by occupying the spirit, or the mind entirely, preventing his conscious and subconscious mind from defending while he established the technique.

For this to work out well, any strong stimuli was required, whether it be positive or negative. After all, occupying the mind was what determined whether the technique would be successful or not.

Though the technique had worked wonderfully in this instance, Lex knew that the technique wasn’t that great. There were too many steps, each one with too many weaknesses, and all of them critical.

The biggest weakness of the technique was that it wouldn’t even work outside Abaddon, since in the rest of the universe, the laws tended to be less fluid. While he was here, though, it would be a pretty powerful tool as long as he didn’t mess it up.

More importantly, it was his first attempt at using his real life experiences to recreate a powerful, dynamic technique that did more than just one thing. Sure, he could breathe fire or put up defensive walls. But like he had just proved, more complex techniques could make a tough fight easier, and could handle a wider range of problems.

Making and using the Abaddon Inn would be good practice for what he could do later on. He did not intend on keeping his scope limited.

Up until now, he mostly used his Lawcrafting to fight or defend, but there was no reason why it couldn’t be used for literally everything else either.

For example, not only was Abaddon Inn good for controlling the target, it could do a number of other things that Lex had reflected in the services that the Inn offered. Room and boarding were the most simple of them. He was especially proud of what his Abaddon Inns Meditation room could accomplish.

He exited the technique, leaving Jeziah in there, and looked around. The fight, to no surprise, was still going on.

The Gon were suppressed, and were being targeted by both the locusts and the mercenaries, and yet were managing to hold their own. In fact, they were doing great. As a race bred and built for war, they had been trained from birth on how to fight during an unfavorable situation, and that training was coming in handy.

A flicker of excitement flashed through Lex’s eyes. Maybe he’d be able to use his Lotus form after all. At the same time, he also felt confused. free.webn\ove(l)(.)c(o)m

He had basically learned about the Well of Forgotten Dreams location, and yet he’d received no notification updating his quest. So maybe what he had found wasn’t the well. Maybe it was something else. It didn’t feel like that, though.

“Kaemon, what’s the situation?” Lex asked through his spirit sense. “I have one prisoner, but a lot of his memories are sealed so I can’t learn much from him.”

“That is because you have captured a foot soldier. Although this army no longer has a commanding officer, there are tiers even among the ones who remain. Can you look through the prisoners’ memories and identify who is leading this army?”

Lex shook his head, not that anyone could see. He was still just a thought, hiding inside Jeziahs’ mind.

“No, there’s no commander. These are all slaves left for dead. All their commanders are dead.”

In the midst of a heated battle, it was tough to read facial expressions, especially when the expressions that needed to be read belonged to a Magma Lion. Even so, Lex could tell something was wrong the moment he finished speaking.

“What is it?” Lex asked.

“Take the prisoner and retreat quickly,” Kaemon said, his voice extremely worried. “Put the castle in its strongest defensive form and prepare to heal a lot of wounded. Our situation is a lot worse than I expected.”

“What is it?” Lex asked, even as his body emerged from within Jeziah and grabbed him, ready to retreat.

“If this is a slave army, the moment they seem like they’re going to lose… they will pull a kamikaze manoeuvre. Can you imagine nearly a hundred Heaven Immortals self-destructing? Because I can’t, and I don’t want to find out.”

A chill went down Lex’s spine as he picked up the Gon, making sure that he was still stuck within the Abaddon Inn, and teleported back to the castle. He immediately began erecting barriers around the castle, while putting more and more seals on Jeziah. Lex wouldn’t want his body to self-destruct on its own, so he put every seal he could on Jeziah.

Meanwhile, they all watched as Kaemon and his army slowly retreated from battle, putting even less and less pressure on them. It was obvious that Kaemon had been preparing something to help him win the battle, but he had canceled that plan and was instead focused solely on escaping.

The problem was that the Gon would self-destruct as soon as they felt like defeat was likely, so they didn’t dare fight them. At the same time, they also didn’t dare remove the suppression on them because just the fallout from their fight would be dangerous.

Slowly and carefully, Kaemon and their group retreated. Unfortunately, the Gon race was not dumb. They immediately realized that the mercenaries had come to fight them, and were the pens who suppressed them, so they moved the fight to the mercenaries, not allowing them to leave.

Now they were in a sticky situation. If they tried to win, the Gon would blow themselves up. If they tried to avoid the fight, they would be followed, and it wasn’t like losing the fight was an option either.

“Prepare yourselves,” Lex said, transmitting his voice to Kaemon. “I’m going to teleport your whole group to us, and then we’re going to make a run for it.”
