Walter expected this much reaction from Devin, for Devin's trauma runs deep inside his bones. At the same time, Walter found no other alternative. He proposed this plan only after his friend Elias assured him of Devin's safety. ''Devin, listen to_''

''I made a big mistake coming here'' Devin gazed at Walter, his voice cold and furious. ''I don't know if you think I am dumb not to notice your ploys...but I am not someone to open my mind to your experiments.'' Without another word, Devin turned to leave. Not again, he is going to become a lab rat.

Walter hurriedly went behind Devin before he escaped out of the workshop. ''Please listen to me, Devin. You have misunderstood us. This is nothing related to the experiment you are assuming. The people have come here at my request. Whatever happens here remains between us. I guarantee my life with this. Please listen to the plan once, and if you still find this a sham, I will not force you anymore.''

Devin halted and turned around. Walter's words came out genuine. He is not losing anything by listening to the plan, so why not hear what they say before considering his opinion. ''What's the plan?''

Walter gazed at his friend Elias to explain. Nodding his head, Elias started. ''To begin with, you have a block in your brain, which is hard to trigger with the hypnotherapy.'' Elias grabbed a tiny glass tube from the table and showed it to Devin. ''This is a drug called Toconin. Once you drink the entire content, five minutes later, your brain slowly starts to have open access to the other bodies. This is where we come in.''

''I connect to your brain through a brain simulator device. From then on, the barrier will open. I will have virtual access to your memories. I will travel with you, help you find the key, unlock your memory block, and we will come back safely.''

''So, you will travel with me throughout,'' Devin asked for confirmation.

''Not only me,'' Elias said and pointed to the rest of the team. ''We all will join you.''

''I_I don't understand. Why do we need them?" Confusion sprawled across his features.

''Walter told me you had a panic attack when you tried to access your memories,'' Elias said. ''Bella is an expert in forming compounds. She will create a stable chemical compound that will numb your pain and put your physical body in a deep sleep. So you are relieved from panic attacks.''

''Impressive.'' Devin appreciated. He can't believe they had taken a minute detail into consideration.''And the rest?''

''Theo is a professional con artist. If your subconscious-memory enemies come to distract you, Theo will act like you, trick them, and persuade them to think that it's not you. So, you are safe from distractions. We can save time on finding the key without distractions."

Not a word traveled from Devin's mouth. The idea fascinated him. He could feel the intensity of Elias's research. ''I take back my words.''

''For you to utter those words, I can understand the trauma your memories put an impact in you.'' Elias smiled.

Devin glanced at Nico, but he addressed Elias. ''Why do we need a fighter?''

''Because your subconscious memory is protecting the memories. from yourself. I don't know what kind of memories you blocked. Without your conscious, you will send enemies. So, there is a chance that we may face a threat inside your memories. Enemies will definitely try to defend once they know you have entered their territory. It's their nature. So, we need a fighter. Nico will fight and put them in prison. Trust me, my cousin is an outstanding fighter.''

''I am very impressed.''

"Thank you." Elias smiled.

Devin glanced at Nico. Nico's face blushed. ''There is a woman who will appear at the start in my memories. Her voice sounds like a cry of an expiring mouse. Can you deal with her first?'' More than his memories, Devin was scared of her gravel voice.

Nico eagerly nodded his head. He decided to give her special treatment.

''So, you are willing?'' Walter asked, a proud smile on his face.

''Well..I guess so.'' Devin exhaled a deep breath. ''This is the real deal.'' Goosebumps raised just by listening to the plan.

''Where do I fall once I sleep? I mean..I lost memories for about five years back.''

''I can't assure you in that. It entirely depends on your subconscious memory.'' Elias explained. ''Finding the key is the biggest trope here because you don't know in which part of your memory the key is hidden.''

''How do I wake up from sleep?''

''I have a special watch in which we set the timer. We will wear their before going to your memories. It will pull you back once the time elapses. So, before that, we need to trace the key.''

''When are we starting?'' Devin's enthusiasm was back.

''Any day is fine..but need your full attention for the whole day,'' Elias said.

''I will inform you of the date then.''

Masking Leena for the whole day is the biggest hurdle here. Devin once again thanked the team and returned home. Both Leena and Devin to bring their trip plan, but the situation didnot help them.

After the sumptuous dinner, Leena immediately climbed onto the bed. ''Devin, I have an important matter to discuss with you.''

Exactly his thoughts, Devin muttered in his brain. ''What is it?''

''I am going on a business trip to Japan tomorrow. I have a meeting with a client. I might have to stay there for three days.''

Devin couldn't believe the turn of events. He has been thinking of masking Leena, and precisely the opportunity hit the door. ''Take Nick with you. Be careful.''

Did he agree without throwing a tantrum? Something is fishy. Anyway, she got permission. Leena internally did a happy dance. ''Thank you, Devin.'' She leaned her head on his chest. ''Eat on time. Don't overwork when I am away. Don't put your mobile in silent mode.''

''Hmm..Okay.'' He kissed her hair, entwining her hands with his. Such a caring wife she has become. ''Leena...'' He sweetly called her.

''Hmmm...'' Leena extra sweetly hummed, tilting her head to face him.

''I will give you a surprise when you come back.'' He pecked her lips.

''Finally, you decided to gift the shares from one of my favorite brands?''

''A bigger surprise than that.'' Devin chuckled at her apparent reason. Never is she going to stop her fetish for clothes.

'A bigger surprise than that,' and Leena imagined a bigger number.

The following day Leena started to Russia, and Devin returned to the workshop. Both thought they had tricked each other without knowing their purpose was the same.

....

The initial part of the chapter is pure science. To explain more and not to confuse readers, I will give a small example. Let's say I am thinking about tigers now. The thought has become my memory now.

A thought never takes a shape in the physical world which is we we are living. But inside the brain, my thoughts brcome projections. Just close your eyes, and think of something. Along with the subject, the settings comes into your mind as well.

Since we virtually enter into memories, we see our thoughts we imagined projecting into real objects. What ever you imagine, you see them physically inside the brain.

A little complicated..but If you have doubts, let me know, I will try to clear.

I have been plotting Devin's memory arc for over six to seven months. But my research didn't complete. So, I delayed this arc to bring the best sci-fi plot. I have been dreaming to write this ever since.. Hope you will enjoy this as much as I loved writing it.
