Chapter 874: Rowena Wants To Go On Adventures
When Rowena received the seeds from the mysterious beggar years ago, she had thought that there was something special about them.
That they were maybe magical and actually had secret properties.
It was after all strange for a beggar to smell clean when most that they encountered didn't even have much of a chance to bathe or even get enough food to eat.
However, now that she thought about it some more... Maybe it stemmed from some prejudice to believe that all beggars were supposed to be dirty?
Perhaps the beggar back then was only focused on hygiene and cleanliness which were very important things.
That seemed to be the case because when Julian returned and helped Rowena water the plants, nothing happened and the rest of the day went on fine.
It was just another ordinary day for the two, and even the topic of traveling again wasn't brought up by Rowena because she was so focused on the plants growing and sprouting.
Was it a little disappointing?
Yes, the young woman was a bit bummed out about it. Rowena decided to speak about the situation when she and Julian had breakfast.
Their small hut had a nice porch in front that allowed them to have meals in the open air which she particularly liked. She could see the effort that both she and Julian had put into the house.
It was a project that the two of them worked incredibly hard upon and it made her feel a bit nostalgic about how much time had passed, and now she also needed to bring up about leaving.
The two of them ate and watched some birds fly around near the vegetable patch. Julian, who had a sling, quickly threw over a stone and watched the creatures fly away.
"It's a good thing we planted those seeds deep or else the birds might have dug them out," Julian said. "We can't let that happen."
"You know, it's a little sad that they didn't grow overnight," Rowena said. "Then you wouldn't have needed to use the sling, Julian."
"Why did you think the plants would grow overnight?" Julian chuckled as he sat down in his chair. "That's silly."
"Claims the so-called adventurer who's traveled countless realms," Rowena said as she drank some fresh milk. They kept several cows on their farm for this purpose.
"It's a very believable story, thank you very much," Julian said. "It's not every day that a dashingly handsome young lad like me meets with everyone. Plus, they'll also believe me when I say you're a fairy friend."
Rowena didn't look much impressed as she lowered the cup. "Only little kids will believe you, Julian, about that nonsense."
"Milk mustache, kid." Julian motioned to her face. "And on the contrary, it's very convincing. Didn't it work during one of our stunts?"
Rowena wiped her mouth and shrugged. "I guess, but it's because they've never seen a fairy so they're susceptible to believin
g what you say. But… on the plants, you're right. It was silly for me to be a bit hopeful that they'll quickly grow, I guess it'll be a while before we leave."
"Leave?"
"Right." Rowena's words were a perfect way to bring up about leaving. "How long have we lived here in the valley, Julian?"
"Nearly a year. Around six months inside of the hut and two months sleeping on the grass." Julian recalled. "It took us a while to build the hut because we didn't ask or hire people."
"Yes, it's much safer that way," Rowena said. "I'm not sure if people remember us, but it's incredibly risky if we encounter someone who knows us as—"
"Fake magical bracelet seller and wandering lady?"
"That and other countless identities." Rowena laughed. "But don't you think that it's getting a little uh... boring? Staying here, I mean."
"It's funny because I remember you saying that you wanted to live here forever." Julian grinned. "And now you want to change your mind."
"Well, I've changed," Rowena said.
"Oh, I wasn't trying to say it like it's a bad thing." Julian chuckled. "Sometimes we think we want something, but it can turn out that we're wrong or... circumstances change and we realize that we want something else. Like those seeds."
"The seeds?"
"When you got them, you were so excited before... but now, you just want them to grow up fast and then leave?" Julian grinned. "People change over time and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I do hope we can stick around some more until the plants grow, but if you think adventure is calling us, well, I'm not too opposed to it either."
"Do you wish to stay here?" Rowena asked.
"I mean it's nice. But where you'll go... I think I also want to go along with you," Julian said. "It'd be awfully boring if it was just me."
"You know... Julian, we're close right?"
"If you think living together for nearly two years isn't close, then I don't know what is." Julian grinned. "What's on your mind?"
"Have you ever thought about uh... wait, do you remember that festival in Kilshade? There was that innkeeper girl who really liked you. She was beautiful right?"
"You know it's hard to say beautiful when we compare it—er, let's just go with yes, she was nice."
Rowena nodded. "There we go. What if we met like a really wonderful girl and she wanted to go along with us for an adventure."
"Wonderful how?" Julian raised a brow. "Is she as smart as you? As talented as you when it comes to numbers or acting?"
"You know that's kind of hard. Not everyone is going to be on the same level as me."
"I know..."
"So...?"
"I think you had a point about the magical plant thing. Rowena," Julian suddenly said. "Might want to go turn and look around n
ow. WOW!!"
"Wait, really?" Rowena looked over her shoulder.
"Ha. You fell for that one… HAHAHAHAHA."
"Julian!"
He grinned. "I know what's on your mind, but frankly, I'm still not interested in those things at this time... I mean, have you considered it? It's not fair if I'm the only one who answers these kinds of questions."
"When I think about being with someone, marrying a person. I remember my father promising to marry me off to the most appropriate suitor." Rowena frowned. "I don't like the idea."
"Yeah. Being tied down doesn't sound like an adventure at all."
