Chapter 867: Magical Bracelets (1)
Julian and Rowena arrived in the city called Dustfal and it was there that they would first try their trick of selling 'magical products' to customers. The two of them entered separately and promised to meet each other in the town's square after some time.
The young man found himself and rented a merchant stall and then placed a beautiful red silk tablecloth over the booth. It was decorated with intricate gold lace trimmings that made the small stall actually look fancy and fit for the rich and illustrious.
Julian then took out a small bag and placed some simple-looking bracelets at one side of the booth, and then left an empty area on the right side. While he waited for Rowena, some curious vendors and people looked over and asked what Julian would be selling within the city.
He simply gestured to the table and asked. "What do you guys see?"
All of the people saw the items on the left and each of them had differing reactions, some negative, others positive, and others simply neutral to the newfound items.
"Are these cheap bracelets the one you'll be selling?" a customer looked at them with a dismissive frown.
"What materials are these from?" another asked as they picked up the ordinary bracelet.
"Hmmm…they're like good handicrafts, you can see that they're well made if you look closely at how they're stitched and joined together… but that won't sell that much in a city like this. You'll be lucky if you sell a couple of them, boy," a person helpfully said.
"Well, those are not my main products," Julian said and motioned to them with a pleased expression. "Although, you're also free to purchase them as lovely trinkets. They're made with the finest of craftsmanship."
Julian was good with his hands. He prided himself in the fact that he truly knew a couple of things in certain fields due to his need to make money and survive. Among those skills, he learned how to tie cords together and make bracelets from various items.
They even made one from shells out of fun when they arrived in the port city. Rowena helped him make the ones on display, and they were made truly from simple materials… but it was not the items he wished to sell.
"You have another product to sell?"
"Ah, so it seems like you'll only show them when important clients come around?" another person guessed. "That's a good way to avoid thieves stealing them from the booth. You need to guard them well."
"Oh, you are mistaken about me hiding them. On the contrary, they're right there." Julian gave them a relaxed grin and he gestured to the empty side. "My products on the right are high-class magical bracelets."
"What?!"
"You're selling magical items?" a lot of vendors frowned and looked over at Julian then back at the empty space. A lot of them
suddenly became confused because they didn't see any items at all.
Julian nodded calmly. "Yes."
"Unless these bracelets are invisible, then I'm not seeing them… so they're not real." A vendor retorted beside Julian. The man preoccupied himself and swatted some passerby from his clothes stall and said. "You won't fool us, boy."
"It hurts my feelings that I've just arrived here and people are already doubting me." Julian sighed aloud.
A man who sold weapons in another stall narrowed his eyes at Julian. "If you lie boy and we discover your treachery, we may cut off your hand as recompense. Simply throwing you in jail won't be enough."
Julian stared at the serious weapons dealer and ignored the bead of sweat that trickled down his forehead. He was a professional and knew how to act. He earnestly placed a hand on his chest.
"Fooling others is not what I wish to do. But it's clear that only the most erudite of people here would know that what I'm saying is true. Or have none of you ever encountered magical items before?"
"How can a young man like you, even if you look strong, actually gain magical bracelets?" another vendor said doubtfully. This time, it was a vendor who had numerous bottles on the display of what appeared to be perfume.
"Well, where else do you get magical items from?" Julian shrugged coolly and confidently. He had already rehearsed this with Rowena before and looked at the other vendors with a simple smile. "I managed to grab them from another realm."
"Another realm?!"
A look of surprise crossed over the faces of those who heard Julian's bold declaration. Others were immediately interested and asked which realm did Julian get them from and gained more crowds as a result.
It was no secret that a lot of people knew about other realms and other worlds. While the visits were not so frequent since it was unnecessary for elves, mermaids, and others to come to visit the human world, stories about humans stumbling into another world was not rare.
Julian grinned and asked. "Well, can you guess from which one?"
"The elven realm guards their possessions well and doesn't simply sell them to ordinary strangers." a person said. "So I don't think they're from there if what you say is true."
Julian raised a brow. "What makes you think I'm an ordinary person?"
"Huh?"
Julian grinned and motioned to himself. "I am a well-versed traveler, who's been to many worlds. I've even entered the realm of demons where the Demon King's vast stores of treasure lie waiting for talented people such as myself."
"You're lying."
"There's no way that you'd survive going to another realm!"
"Well, it seems I
cannot convince you," Julian said and shook his head. He looked at the angriest customer and said, "It's a pity because I almost expected more from my dearest customers."
"A pity?!"
Julian nodded seriously. "Yes, the reason why some of you cannot see the wares I'm selling is because of a simple thing. You guys are not capable of witnessing the true form of the bracelet since you lack the capacity to think."
Before the crowd erupted into chaos at Julian's words, a beautiful young lady suddenly barged through the crowds and arrived in front of the stall. "My, my… I was curious what the fuss was all about, but now I understand why. Such gorgeous bracelets!"
