Chapter 588: A Late Guest
Auditorium, Roxley House.
"Sweet words can move the crowd, my Lord. But, that is just temporary. People will once again return to their roots. It isn't easy to forget things." One of the elders said, looking at Roman. He seemed to have deliberately disconnected the mic, not wanting the people to listen to his voice.
"True, not to mention, can we really trust these people?" Another one of the elders said while looking at Ander. His gaze definitely wasn't friendly here.
"How can you say that even without trying?" Roman frowned, "Besides, it's still better than not trying at all."
The discussion finally entered a stalemate. There were quite a few elders, who weren't in support of the decision.
"There is no changing of decisions. Even if you people are unhappy, we still have to follow through it." Roman said as he looked at the people. It really made them unhappy honestly.
"Give us a valid reason why you can't change this decision. You can't just leave us in the dark like this. It's almost as if you are pretending to make up something which doesn't even exist." Omen snorted.
"This can be said to be a direct wish of the Ancient Families. You could say, that it is there push that is finally making this impossible event to come true." Roman finally opened his mouth. And, his words immediately shook a few of the older Elders, while the newer ones still appeared confused. They probably still were not aware of the presence of the real Behemoth in the world.
"Impossible! You are lying!" Omen's eyes widened, and he retorted with a raging look on his face. He couldn't believe those words. Firstly, if they were true then he was doomed for sure. His years of planning would go down in the drain. Secondly, the Ancient Families never interfered in such matters, so he wasn't willing to accept it.
He could only think that Roman was lying to get his way through the situation as the Elders wouldn't try to refuse the decision if it was supported by the Ancient Families.
"You really have the guts to put such allegations on the Lord. You know what you are doing, aren't you?" Melinda finally spoke, and it instantly shut Omen's mouth. He knew that going overboard wasn't a good thing.
But, Melinda had only targeted him. Earlier when another Elder slammed the table or raised his voice, she had been quiet the whole while. She had let it pass with her eyes closed, but now that he did something, she was quick to act on it.
He knew she was targeting him. But, there was no way for him to back down, and turn quiet here. This was a very important junction for his plans. And, he couldn't afford to fail it now.
"You say that I am crossing the line, but aren't you doing the same? You didn't even ask for our consent while making the decision, and on asking you say it wasn't in your control? What kind of Lord are you if you can't even control the matters regarding your own people?" Omen sneered at Melinda.
He then went on to continue, "You say that the Ancient Families had come to interfere, but why don't I see any of their representatives here? You people have to back up your claims. Don't think people will just believe you without any form of evidence. We are not fools here."
"Sorry, I am late!" A voice sounded around the vicinity, and an elderly man appeared on the stage out of nowhere. His presence immediately alerted a few people.
Even Ander and Roman, who were at the top of the Grand Master Tier, a few steps away from Supreme Tier couldn't sense his presence at all.
They were all about to get into action when the man finally spoke, "Our Young Master will be late due to last minute difficulties. I just hope you people will be considerate to him. Until then, I will take his place to answer any of your questions."
Melinda, Roman, and Ander exchanged glances. None of them had any idea who the elderly man was. But, he was definitely strong for sure. And, the fact that he was going to go along with their act meant that he was related to Max.
The three were definitely surprised inwardly. To think that Max could easily get help from such a powerhouse.
Grandmaster Tier mages weren't common. Even the newer generations Lords were all at this stage, and the same was true for the elders. As for the Supreme Tiers, they were even more rare. You would be lucky to spot one. They usually stayed in one of the territories of the house like your ordinary people, and were mostly relieved of any kind of duties. Only, when there was a need for them would they act out.
Hence, most people had no idea about them. After all, just how many situations had occurred in the last 10 years when the Supreme Tier Mages clashed. So, being able to deploy a Grandmaster Tier mage was definitely a feat in itself.
"Who are you?" Omen frowned. He definitely didn't recognize the person. And, this furthered his doubts regarding the situation.
The Ancient Families usually had public faces, and only these people were sent out to interact with others in the name of the Families. Basically, representing them.
And, he definitely hadn't seen this person around.
'Are they trying to fake it?' He frowned. This was getting tough. He didn't want to make a wrong decision here. Because, if he did that, he would be doomed for sure.
"Well? I don't think anyone has any questions.." The elderly man said, looking at the people around.
Most of the people on the stage had been frightened by his appearance. And, the fact that he declared himself to be from the Ancient Family was already enough to scare them. While those who didn't know what an Ancient Family was just kept quiet to watch the show.
"Sir, please forgive my rudeness. But, can you prove to us that you are from the Ancient Family?" Omen decided to take the risk. After all, he was doomed either way. It was better for him to take the chances, and hope that the person was just an impostor.
"No, I can't." The elderly man replied with calm. He was told that once the mission began, they were on their own and had nothing to do with the Ancient Families.
The man's words instantly made everyone frown.
"What kind of farce is this? You people have taken us for a joke?!" Omen snapped.
"Pak!" A slap landed right across Omen's face, and he was immediately sent flying off the stage.
The action immediately turned the whole place silent, and left the people on the stage shocked.
"My apologies, our Young Masters are here. And, one of them doesn't like noises," The Elderly man said in a calm manner.
And, the next instant, a group entered the Auditorium.
