‘Christine?’

Upon answering the phone, Ryu Min heard a worried voice.

“Prophet? Are you okay?”

“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”

“I stopped by your house, and I heard it was destroyed.”

Ryu Min let out a low sigh.

There wasn’t a single person who didn’t know what had happened.

“It turned out that way somehow. But you stopped by my house? Are you in Korea right now?”

“Yes. Not only that, I’m actually in front of the hotel.”

“…What?”

Startled, Ryu Min immediately used the tracking feature to locate Christine.

“[A match has been found for the face and name. Tracking the target’s location.]”

“[Target ‘Christine Craig’ located.]”

“[The target is currently 78 meters away.]”

“[Follow the arrow ahead to pursue the target.]”

She really was nearby, just in front of the hotel.

It seemed like Christine had tracked him down using the same feature.

“Since I’ve come all the way here, could I see you for a moment?”

“…Fine.”

Ending the call, Ryu Min grabbed his coat and spoke to his brother.

“I’m going out to meet someone.”

“Who?”

“A colleague.”

Following the tracking arrow, Ryu Min soon spotted Christine sitting in the hotel lobby.

“Ah, Ryu Min!”

“Why are you here without a word of notice?”

“I’m sorry. When I saw the state of your house, I got worried…”

“Come with me.”

Ryu Min took Christine to a nearby café.

“What would you like to drink? Choose whatever you want, it’s on me.”

“No, I’m the one who showed up unannounced. How could I possibly…”

“Even so, as my guest, I can’t not treat you to something. Pick whatever you’d like.”

“T-thank you.”

Christine only ordered a simple cup of coffee.

After ordering the same for himself, Ryu Min got straight to the point.

“I thought you went back to America… What made you come to my house?”

“Ah, it’s nothing special. Last time, you came all the way to America to share a prophecy, didn’t you? So I thought this time it was my turn to visit you…”

“Is that really all?”

“Yes…”

Ryu Min quietly stared at Christine, scrutinizing her like an interrogator.

Though his gaze was sharp, Christine averted her eyes, blushing slightly in embarrassment.

‘It’s true. She really came here for no other reason.’

Ryu Min sighed internally, realizing that her reasoning was as trivial as it seemed.

Yet, at the same time, he felt thankful.

No matter how indifferent one tries to act, it’s hard not to feel moved when someone is genuinely worried about you.

“Um, I-I’m sorry.”

Christine, misunderstanding Ryu Min’s continued staring as anger, apologized again, feeling flustered.

“I should’ve let you know before coming… It must’ve felt sudden.”

“It was sudden, yes.”

“I really am sorry. But what happened? Why is your house in such a state…?”

“An angel paid me a visit.”

“…What?”

Since Christine already knew who he really was, Ryu Min decided there was no point in hiding the truth.

“You might not know this, but the angels see me as their mortal enemy. However, I didn’t expect they’d come to my house and target my brother.”

“Th-they targeted your brother? Is he okay?”

“Luckily, I arrived in time to save him.”

“And what about the angel? What happened to them?”

“What do you think happened?”

Ryu Min smirked slightly.

That cynical smile was enough of an answer.

“It’s a relief that no one was hurt.”

“I think so too.”

“So that’s why you returned to the island so late… You were dealing with the angel, weren’t you?”

“That’s right.”

“This kind of thing shouldn’t happen again…”

“Exactly. Lately, I’ve been on edge because of it. The thought of losing my brother…”

Just imagining it seemed to unsettle him, and Ryu Min turned to look out the window.

The expanse of the clear sky and the toy block-like city below offered a bit of solace.

But the lingering unease in his eyes didn’t fade, prompting Christine to look at him with concern.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“Um, I don’t know how this will sound, but…”

Christine hesitated for a moment, then summoned her courage.

“If there’s anything you need, feel free to use me however you want.”

“…What?”

“I mean it. If it weren’t for Black Scythe, I’d already be dead. So don’t hesitate—use me for anything. If you need someone to stay by your brother’s side 24/7, I’ll do it. I might not have the power to stop an angel, but isn’t something better than nothing?”

The idea of using Christine like a tool left Ryu Min momentarily speechless.

He never imagined he’d hear such words from her.

“Use me and throw me away if you must. Whatever it is, I just want to help you. I mean it.”

Ryu Min silently stared at Christine.

‘She’s serious. I can tell even without reading her mind.’

Her determination to help, no matter what, was unmistakable.

“I appreciate the offer, but for now, there’s nothing I need help with.”

“If I could stay by your brother’s side—”

Ryu Min shook his head firmly.

“The angel I faced was no ordinary foe. As a supporter, you wouldn’t even be able to serve as a basic shield.”

“I see…”

Christine’s shoulders drooped at his brutally honest words, but it couldn’t be helped.

Christine was an important asset. He couldn’t afford to lose her meaninglessly as a shield.

Sipping her coffee, Christine looked like a puppy caught in the rain, pitiful and dejected.

It was clear that helping Black Scythe was her only source of happiness.

Feeling compelled to add something, Ryu Min spoke again.

“That doesn’t mean I’m rejecting your offer of help. I promise I’ll call you if something comes up.”

“Really?”

When he nodded, Christine’s face lit up noticeably.

“You promised! If there’s anything I can do to help, you’ll call me, right?”

“You’re already helping plenty.”

“No, supporting you as part of the team is a given. I want to help you personally.”

“Alright, alright. I promise.”

Ryu Min didn’t see any harm in agreeing.

Though he couldn’t treat an important ally like Christine recklessly, keeping her motivated was worth it.

“Shall we go if you’re done?”

“Yes.”

The two left the café.

As they stood in front of the elevator, they exchanged parting words.

“I’d like to see you off at the airport, but I can’t risk leaving my brother alone.”

“I understand. If you need anything, call me anytime. I’ll hop on a plane and come straight to you.”

With that, Christine stepped into the elevator, smiling and waving as the doors closed.
