Terra Nova Online: Rise of The Strongest Player
Chapter 773: An offer no-one can refuseChapter 773: An offer no-one can refuse
“And for your services, ChaosBringer, we will shower you with MP, money, real life benefits, information packs and pretty much anything that you desire—” Raven suggested, as an awkward silence enveloped the room.
9/10 players were never going to refuse an offer like this, and it was precisely this knowledge about human nature that prompted the Unity Government back on planet Terra Nova, to come up with this plan.
They had forced Leo to appoint a regent in their last agreement, precisely because of this knowledge about human nature, as according to their calculations, Leo was either going to appoint a regent from his family, or from the top leadership of the uprising.
If he appointed a family member as regent, the unity government intended to exploit that decision to create gaps within the uprising, to sow discord and unhappiness amongst top management and somehow rotting the organization from the inside out.
And If he did not. They intended to turn the uprising leader he appointed as regent into a double agent, and have him betray Leo’s trust in the end.
It was a full-proof plan, with little to no chance of failure, however, unfortunately, they picked the wrong man to turn on Leo.
“So let me get this straight….” ChaosBringer began, his voice emotionless as he pointed out the facts.
“You want me to betray my lord’s trust and not run the Empire to match his vision, but rather run it to match yours? Is that what you’re asking from me?” ChaosBringer asked, as Raya nodded fervently in reply.
“Exactly, that’s precisely what we want you to do,” Raya confirmed, her voice steady and sure while her eyes gleamed with barely concealed excitement.“I see…” ChaosBringer said, leaning back in his chair, as he crossed his arms over his chest.
A slow, almost lazy smile began to creep across his face, as though he were savoring some private joke.
For a while he said nothing, but only glanced at his shining nails, before eventually tilting his head from side to side as he let his gaze linger on each of the three ship operators.
“Anything I want for a reward, correct? Inside or outside the game?” he repeated, his voice soft, teasing, almost indulgent.
“Anything,” Raya replied without hesitation, leaning forward slightly, her expression serious. “Whatever you desire. Money, MP, real-world privileges—whatever it takes. You name it, and it’s yours.”
ChaosBringer’s lips quirked into a wider smile, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest of his chair. “That’s quite the offer.”
Captain Kid nodded, his demeanor confident and his tone smooth. “Indeed. It’s not just an offer; it’s a golden opportunity. One that few would even consider refusing.”
ChaosBringer chuckled softly, his painted eyes glinting with amusement. “It would take a special kind of fool to refuse something like this, wouldn’t it?” he said, his voice light, almost conversational.
Captain Kid grinned, his confidence bolstered. “Precisely. We’re glad you understand the gravity of what’s on the table. With your intellect and skill, you’re exactly the kind of person we want for this.”
The tension in the room seemed to ease, the ship operators exchanging subtle glances that betrayed their growing certainty.
ChaosBringer appeared to entertain their proposal, his thoughtful expression and deliberate movements lending an air of seriousness to the discussion, as he seemed to be genuinely interested.
Rising from his seat with deliberate grace, ChaosBringer stretched, rolling his shoulders as though shedding the weight of responsibility. He paced toward the edge of the room, his steps slow, measured. Every movement seemed calculated to draw out the moment, heightening the anticipation in the air.
“So, let me get this straight,” he said, his tone measured and contemplative, as though he were truly weighing the gravity of their offer. “You’re saying I could have riches, power, influence—everything I’ve ever dreamed of—just by agreeing to this arrangement?”
“Exactly, you just have to say yes here and sign a contract” Raven interjected eagerly, his confidence growing with every passing second.
ChaosBringer turned to face them, his hands gripping the back of his chair lightly, his painted nails tapping against the polished wood. His expression remained pensive, thoughtful.
“And all it would take,” he continued, his voice dropping slightly, “is for me to sabotage the empire. Betray my lord—the man who entrusted me with his vision, his empire, and his trust. Is that the price?”
For a brief moment, the operators faltered, but Captain Kid quickly stepped in, his tone smooth and practiced. “It’s not betrayal,” he said, his voice calm and persuasive. “It’s strategy. Ensuring stability for the future. A way to secure your place at the top while—”
ChaosBringer cut him off with a subtle motion of his hand. The smile that spread across his face was not warm or reassuring—it was sharp, glacial. “Ah, I see,” he murmured, his voice almost playful. “Only a fool would refuse such a generous offer.” ⱤäΝՕ𐌱Ёṣ
Captain Kid’s confidence surged, and he exchanged a knowing glance with his companions. “Precisely. We knew you’d see reason,” he said, pulling out a stack of papers for ChaosBringer to sign, as he fumbled to find his pen.
“If you can just sign here…” Captain Kid said, passing the pen to ChaosBringer, however, instead of gripping it, ChaosBringer let the pen fall with a Thud, as the expression on his face darkened.
For a moment, the room was silent save for the soft hum of the Arc Ship’s systems. ChaosBringer’s expression was unreadable as he studied the trio before him. Then, slowly, his smile began to fade. The amusement in his eyes vanished, replaced by something far colder and infinitely more dangerous.
“But here’s the thing,” ChaosBringer said, his voice dropping into a deadly monotone. He straightened, his imposing figure casting a long shadow over the table. “I’m not a man who trades loyalty for coins. I’m not someone who forgets who lifted me from the dirt and gave me purpose.”
The operators froze, their confidence draining as ChaosBringer’s words cut through the room like a blade.
“You think I’d betray him?” he continued, his voice rising slightly, sharp with contempt. “Betray the man who entrusted me with everything he built? The man who trusted me to uphold his vision?”
He leaned forward suddenly, his palms slamming onto the table, making them flinch. “I would rather die,” he spat, his painted eyes blazing with fury. “I would rather throw myself into the void than betray my Lord Boss.”
The silence that followed was suffocating. ChaosBringer straightened, his gaze piercing as he pointed to the door. “Get out. And don’t ever insult me like this again.”
Captain Kid, his face pale, nodded stiffly. Raya and Raven hurriedly gathered their things, their earlier confidence shattered. As they scurried out of the room, ChaosBringer’s voice followed them, low and filled with icy resolve.
“CHAOSBRINGER’S LOYALTY is NOT for sale. Not now, not ever.”
When the door slid shut, ChaosBringer stood alone, his fists clenched at his sides.
Slowly, he turned back to the dining table, staring aimlessly at the empty chairs. His loyalty was unshakable, his purpose clear. For Lord Boss, there was no limit to what he would do—or what he would refuse.
No matter what, ChaosBringer could never betray him. For his trust was worth more to him than any money or reward.
