Chapter 758: Negotiations

Leo listened intently to what Kid had to say and only after he was done explaining the general situation, did Leo draw some inferences of his own.

As per his understanding, the process of transferring and rehabilitating migrants from one planet to another fell under the purview of the universal government and although they could be rotten to their core, at least on the surface they had a moral code of conduct to follow, which prevented them from singling out or abusing a passenger without any plausible reason.

This situation however, greatly pissed off their employers, the Unity Empire, who did not appreciate the fact that Leo was single handedly spoiling this batch of migrants by having a greater effect on their mindsets and gameplay development than what could be allowed.

Finally, there were the outsiders, the ones who stood nothing to gain from this batch of migrants as a whole, but had eyes for its top talents, with Leo being their topmost priority.

These entities, who were potentially as strong as the Unity Empire if not even stronger, wanted Leo alone and wanted him to flourish even at the cost of others.

These entities were pissed that Leo was being stifled at every opportunity that presented itself by the Unity Empire, and wanted to ensure that they could not get their ways this time either.

“Hmm…” Leo muttered, soaking everything in, as Captain Kid nervously continued.

“I’m the sole decision maker on this ship, and usually it’s supposed to be a simple job, but this time it’s my very neck on the line.

I can’t offend any of the three parties who hold a say in this situation, because if I do, I’m sure to be punished, and hence, I come here with a humble request of you negotiating a deal with me that keeps everyone happy” Kid said, as sweat beads began to visibly form on his head.

“I can alter the game settings slightly, because I’m afforded some creative control over the game as this ship’s captain, and hence I can make it so that your clash against the Demon King comes as soon as you want it to, and under any circumstance that you want it to.

I know that your only remaining goal in this game is to defeat the Demon King and the Black Dragon Drogo, and I can deliver them to you on a silver plate.

But in return, I would request that you recuse yourself from the last rankers event that is scheduled to happen in a couple months and would also further reduce your remaining 108 days gaming time to just under 30 days…..” Kid proposed, as he visibly began sweating buckets at this point.

“That’s not enough Captain…. 108 days is enough for me to kill the black dragon and demon king on my own terms…. And I don’t need your help for it.

500,000 MP is an astronomical sum of money, yes, but like you said, it’s also not enough for me to back away.

We are still about 450 days away from landing, and I have less than 1 in 4 gaming days remaining to play Terra Nova Online as is.

It gets boring around here, Captain, the monotony is hard to break.

500,000 MP, the VIP sector, none of it is enough to kill boredom and hence I’m not going to take your offer.

The Unity Empire can suck my balls, or come after me when we land, but I’m not trading my future growth potential away for mere money…. Besides, I’m on the cusp of being an Emperor, so how will I enjoy all that hard work I’ve put in for all these years if you take the little gaming time I’ve left away?” Leo asked, as he simply rejected the captain’s current offer.

“What if we give you something else?

What if we give you a guarantee to resurrect Ben Faulkner, so that you don’t have to pool all that money for his resurgence yourself.

That way, not only can you rest assured that your master will be with you when you land, with his memories intact, but also get to keep all your hard-earned money that you’ve made so far, so that you don’t land on Terra Nova as a poor man.

To sweeten the deal, I can even add an information pack for you, something to forewarn you about the politics and dynamics of the new world you’re about to enter…. Just so you have a heads up” Kid asked, as he finally gave Leo an offer that was too good to pass up on, even for Leo.

“Give me all that, plus the 500,000 MP, and I’ll agree to knocking my gaming days to half of what’s left, at 59–” Leo said, still holding his ground, as although he found the current offer good enough already, he still pushed his luck even more, sensing the desperation in Kid’s eyes.

“Th– that’s too much, I’m not sure I can negotiate such a deal, the resurrection of Ben Faulkner will already cost more than the maximum compensation I’m allowed to offer… this is ridiculous” Kid protested, but Leo heard none of it.

“Take it or leave it Captain, this is my bottom line” Leo said, as he rudely placed a palm to Kid’s face, looking away from him in disgust.

“There’s no hurry to reply today…. Let me know of your decision tomorrow, once you have communicated with all three interested parties about our conversation” Leo said, as Kid let out a deep sigh before standing up from his seat. ꭆANꝋ฿Ęʂ

“You’re one tough negotiator…. Master Skyshard” Kid said, as he took his leave.

“And you’re too spineless for your own good Captain” Leo whispered, once he left as he slammed the door of his manor shut.

It seemed like once again he had hit an achievement he wasn’t supposed to hit, and once again his rewards were going to come with penalties that he did not want.
