Chapter 225: Aunt Ashley

“It’s not your fault. You didn’t know beforehand,” Alex said righteously, taking all the blame onto himself. “This is my fault. If I had been firmer, if I hadn’t worried about hurting you, I could have pushed you away. It’s all my mistake. Everything is my fault.”

“No! You didn’t do anything wrong!” Clara sobbed from under the covers. “It’s all my fault! I’m not human! I’m such a damn animal!”

[The Female Lead ‘Clara’ has a Mental Breakdown. Congratulations, you have earned 10000 Critical Points.]

Thinking about how forward she had been just moments ago, Clara felt like dying.

Harvest time! Harvest time! Harvest time!

Watching the Critical Points rack up, Alex felt fantastic. But for the sake of sustainable ‘leek’ farming, his conscience kicked in, and he decided to offer some comfort.

“I’m really curious, why did you suddenly do that?” Alex reached to lift the covers, but Clara clutched them tightly, refusing to let go.

I’m even more curious about what Ashley told you to make you so proactive.

Originally, Alex had made quite a few preparations to win over this female lead from. He hadn’t even expected to hit a home run tonight.

Sera Kleinberg had given in because he helped her avenge her parents and let her personally torture their killers.

Riley was the sweet, naive type, and he had used the tool-person Eric Vaughn to cure her beloved grandma, removing her biggest worry.

With both Sera and Riley, Alex had guided them step-by-step, using various methods, both honorable and not-so-honorable, to claim their ‘first blood’.

But Clara was different. She launched a counter-attack.

Alex’s original plan was to use Eric Vaughn as leverage, gradually forcing her to submit. After all, why waste a perfectly good tool-person?

Clara stopped talking, just burying her face in the covers and crying continuously. After about ten or fifteen minutes, perhaps tired from crying, her hands loosened their grip on the quilt.

“Auntie said you were the blind date she arranged for me,” she mumbled after a while, her lips barely moving. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, looking incredibly pitiful.

Blind date?

Setting up a villain with the female lead on a blind date… truly worthy of an urban webnovel!

This kind of plot twist was a classic trope in these novels. The only difference was the setting not a coffee shop or a fancy restaurant, but a hotel room.

So, Ashley must have investigated me after she went back… Alex gently patted Clara’s smooth back, comforting her.

She must have found out a small part of my background, which gave her the idea to tie the Dawson family to my chariot. And marriage alliances are a common tool for business people.

Heh, Ashley has been running a company for several years now; she’s picked up some of those typical merchant habits.

Looks like she needs some proper education… maybe with a small whip.

“It’s not really her fault.”

Alex gently wiped the tear tracks from the corners of her eyes. “Your aunt feels like she wronged me in the past, and now she probably feels she’s not good enough for me. With all those mixed emotions, maybe she didn’t want a great guy like me to end up with someone else, so she came up with this terrible idea of pushing me towards her most cherished niece you.”

“Your aunt is also looking out for you. After all, she knows what kind of person I am. She’s probably worried about you getting hurt by bad boys out there,” Alex sighed, adding, “Besides, who else in this world besides me would be willing to stand up against the Dawson family for you?”

“Can you… keep this a secret?” Clara looked up pitifully, biting her lower lip gently, fresh tears welling in her eyes.

She felt she had not only wronged her aunt but also Alex. If her aunt found out about this, she felt like she could just die from shame.

This is what happens when you’re too kind people take advantage.

Clara had been protected very well by the Dawson family her whole life.

Alex took her hand. “Don’t worry. Since it already happened, I will definitely take responsibility for you. No matter whose fault this is, I have to be responsible for you.”

“But… what about Auntie?” Clara was moved to tears again, but then the thought of her aunt, Ashley, made her feel unbearably miserable.

This time, it was Alex’s turn to be silent.

Your aunt? Of course, I want your aunt too!

“You’re a good person. A very, very good person,” Clara choked out, starting to sob again. “Let’s just forget this time ever happened. It’s my fault. You and Auntie should be happy together.”

Saying this, she tried to climb out of bed to get dressed.

But Alex wasn’t about to let her get away. He reached out, pulled her back into his arms, and just held her gently for a while. “I will be responsible for you. And I will be responsible for her too.”

Just as Clara was thinking more and more about how problematic that statement sounded, Ashley, who had gotten tired of waiting downstairs, came up.

When Ashley finally pushed open the hotel room door, arriving late, she saw that the bedroom door was open. She could see straight inside two naked bodies tangled tightly together. She froze on the spot.

When she snapped back to reality, she was filled with anger and frustration.

It happened. The thing I worried about most.

Damn you, Alex! Sleeping with me wasn’t enough, you had to sleep with my niece too?! Didn’t even bother with dating, just jumped straight into bed… Ashley fumed silently.

At the same time, Clara saw her aunt standing in the bedroom doorway. Her face instantly burned hot. She closed her eyes tightly and covered her face, biting her lip hard as if that could make her aunt disappear.

“What are you standing there for? Come in!” Alex called out casually to the stunned older woman in the doorway.

“No!” For some reason, Ashley blurted out the refusal instinctively.

Right after shouting it, seeing her trembling niece, she regretted it.

I should have known better. I shouldn’t have let them meet in a hotel… Ashley was filled with remorse.

But she couldn’t understand how her niece could have agreed to Alex’s outrageous demands. It was literally their first time meeting! How did they end up in bed together?

Even if they were in a hotel, they couldn’t have jumped into bed this fast, right?!

“Hmm?” Alex frowned, clearly displeased.

What’s wrong with this Ashley? Didn’t you bring her here for me? Why are you getting emotional now?

Ashley’s heart hammered against her ribs. Pouting, she said firmly, trying to sound convincing, “I just didn’t want to disturb you two!”

The small bedroom now held three people.

Alex leaned back, taking a relaxed drag from his cigarette.

There’s an old saying, ‘Good deeds get good rewards,’ and wasn’t it the truth? He felt that deeply right now.

All his good deeds, accumulating virtue, and making connections throughout his life hadn’t been in vain. He deserved to stumble upon such… fertile ground.

Ever since Ashley came in, she hadn’t taken her eyes off her niece, her hands clenched so tightly the veins popped out.

I sent you here for a blind date, not to get slept with!

Although her plan was to have her niece and Alex make things irreversible, this was way too fast!

They should have at least gotten to know each other for a while first.

Clara, knowing she was in the wrong, felt like a child caught stealing snacks. Her face was so red you could probably squeeze water out of it. She clutched the blanket tightly, covering her naked body, hiding behind Alex, unable to meet her aunt’s eyes.

“Did I come at a bad time?” Ashley was the first to break the heavy silence in the bedroom.

Alex blew out a smoke ring. “No, you’re right on time. Go clean up the bedsheet. The bloodstains will be hard to wash out if they dry.”

After all, the hotel was his property. If it couldn’t be cleaned, they’d have to replace it, and bedsheets cost money!

She was wrong. She had seriously underestimated Alex’s shamelessness.

She’d met shameless people before, but never this shameless.

This was too much! Absolutely humiliating!

“Fine! I’ll clean it!” she yelled, jumping up from the sofa in a huff. She grabbed the stained sheet and stormed towards the bathroom.

“Run the hot water too. I’ll need a bath later,” Alex’s voice followed her.

If only Ashley were a female lead who could produce Critical Points, her output would surely surpass Clara’s by a mile.

What a waste.

Alex turned his attention to Clara, still hiding behind him. “After your aunt runs the water, we’ll go take a bath.”

When it came to being utterly shameless, even dogs could learn a thing or two from him.
