Chapter 3704: Temptation
“You can’t get close to that palace?” Lu Yin asked.
No one answered him. He just received glances from a number of people before they continued walking forward.
The man and woman leading the two groups did not so much as bat an eye.
Lu Yin called out again, “Whoever answers me, I’ll teach a battle technique.”
That caused many eyes to turn to look at Lu Yin, though people’s expressions were odd.
He smiled at them. “It will be a very powerful battle technique, making you invincible within your realm.”
Some of the people were tempted. If anyone else had made such an offer, they would not have cared. No matter what, they were from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, and because of that, they looked down on anyone from the three megaverses. However, it was Lu Yin making the offer, and he had proven that he was strong enough to fight against the High Seraph. Such an expert had to have extremely impressive battle techniques.
“The closer we get to the palace, the more we suffer from an onslaught of memories.” Someone finally spoke. It was a short man who looked both nervous and eager as he stared at Lu Yin.
“Be silent! Who gave you permission to speak?” the woman leading the group snapped.
Many people shot vicious glares the man’s way, including Luo Ning.
The young man shrank back. “I... I didn’t mean to.”
Lu Yin spoke up again, his voice gentle, “It’s fine. I’ll teach you a battle technique. What do you focus on?”
The others in the group stared at Lu Yin blankly. Teach? How was he going to teach anyone on the cliff? While Lu Yin’s voice might reach those at the top of the cliff, it was impossible for him to privately transmit it to an individual with so many others nearby. How would everyone not learn the same technique if Lu Yin taught the short man at this moment?
Even the short man was dubious. “Can you teach me?”
“Of course I can,” Lu Yin casually answered.
“But... but all of them are right here,” the short man protested in a low voice.
Those who were nearby glared at him yet again. What a jerk! He just wants to hog it all for himself.
Lu Yin beamed brightly. “Just keep your eyes on me and don’t look away. I’ll find a chance to teach you. They can’t possibly keep watching me the whole time. Even if they do try to learn, all they’ll pick up are bits and pieces. They’ll only get the basics.”
The short man licked his lips. “You can do that?”
The people nearby glanced at the short man and then at Lu Yin. Can you really do that?
Lu Yin smiled. “What do you focus on?”
The short man replied, “Saber techniques. I like sabers.”
As he spoke, he hefted the weapon in his hand.
Lu Yin nodded approvingly. “Sabers are great. They’re robust and overbearing. Good. I’ll teach you a blade technique that’ll make those beside you cry for their parents.”
The others in the group instantly became annoyed, and one person even sneered. “What a big mouth! Do you even know who we are? Everyone here has an impressive group supporting them. In our megaverse, such organizations are no small thing. It’s completely different from your Spirit Nidus with your so-called thirty-six domains that are filled with countless factions. We might only have a few, but each one has existed for countless years. You really think teaching him just one saber technique can make him invincible within his realm? Ridiculous!”
Others joined in with mocking laughter.
Despite the fact that Lu Yin was strong enough to fight against the High Seraph, making him as powerful as the Lesser Sancti, that was just personal strength. Being able to teach another person was an entirely different matter.
Luo Ning looked at Lu Yin with even greater mockery in his eyes.
Lu Yin ignored them all. “Just try it and see if it works or not.”
He then focused solely on the short young man. “You’re a good kid. Keep your eyes on me and don’t look away until you’ve learned it.”
“But... I need to get to the palace,” the short man hesitantly protested.
“There’s no rush for that,” Lu Yin replied. “The trash beside you aren’t moving much faster than you. You’ll catch up to them in no time.”
“Who are you calling trash?”
“How outrageous! You actually dare to insult us?”
“You’re just abusing your strength! Once we report this to the Greater Sancti, all of the troublemakers will be purged from your three megaverses.”
“We’ll go together to report this to the Greater Sancti...”
Lu Yin returned to the bottom of the cliff, and as he did so, the short man atop the cliff stopped moving and simply stared down below.
A few people tried to persuade the young man to keep moving, but he refused to listen. He simply continued to observe Lu Yin.
The woman leading the group did not care in the slightest, and she simply continued moving forward. The others in the group followed suit.
Some occasionally glanced back, and sure enough, they saw that Lu Yin was saying something while moving. However, whenever anyone looked back, Lu Yin would stop what he was doing, and he would only resume teaching after they looked away again.
More and more people glanced down, though none were as intensely focused on Lu Yin as the short man. Everyone atop the cliff wanted to reach the palace, and they also did not believe that Lu Yin could teach him a truly powerful saber technique. Focusing on him was just a waste of time.
From beginning to end, the short man alone stayed focused on Lu Yin.
Eventually, his eyes started to light up, and his breathing quickened. He was observing an incredible saber technique.
Lu Yin had only just created the saber technique, which meant that it did not belong to any organization or inheritance. Given his strength and cultivation, it was not difficult for him to design a new saber technique. While it might be a bit of an exaggeration to claim that it would be a peerless technique since Lu Yin did not focus on the saber himself, it would still be very difficult for any of the short man’s peers to surpass him after he learned Lu Yin’s saber technique. After all, this technique combined Lu Yin’s own profound insights with what he had received from Wu Tian, who was the greatest expert in the use of all weaponry.
The saber technique fused Lu Yin’s and Wu Tian’s understanding of the weapon, refined from the greatest weapon knowledge in the Tianyuan Megaverse. Even if the technique was unable to surpass the best saber techniques of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, it would not fall far behind.
Soon, Lu Yin switched places with Yong Heng. When that happened, the short man sat down where he was and started meditating on the saber technique.
Time passed with Lu Yin and Yong Heng continuing to switch places.
Finally, the short man started moving again, walking after the others in his group.
They had not made much progress. Given their proximity to the palace, it was difficult for them to advance any further.
The short man was mocked, and people told him he had been tricked. In order to defend himself, he stepped forward and used his new saber technique to defeat three people who were all known to be stronger than him. His victories left everyone shocked.
The woman leading the group readily saw the power behind the short man’s saber technique, and it even tempted her a bit.
There was no need to mention the others in the group.
One by one, people started to lose their composure as they enviously stared at the short man.
Luo Ning then made a move, easily defeating the short man. However, Luo Ning’s cultivation was vastly superior to his, and the two men were not even close to standing on the same level. Luo Ning had simply wanted to test the saber technique.
After the spar, he was impressed and declared, “This technique deserves to be ranked among the top ten saber techniques in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.”
While his words could not represent the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse, the judgment of a member of the Heavenfall Gate’s Luo clan carried tremendous weight. Luo Ning’s evaluation left everyone burning with jealousy. Gradually, everyone turned to stare at the short man, itching to steal the technique from him.
The short man just kept grinning like a fool. He felt like this was the greatest day of his life.
Yong Heng glanced up at the top of the cliff, a strange expression on his face. Things were certainly getting lively up there.
It was not long before it was Lu Yin’s turn to wait at the bottom of the cliff again. No sooner had he arrived than a voice called down from the cliff. “Are you still willing to teach us battle techniques?”
Lu Yin smiled. “Of course.”
“Then come up here. I’ll talk to you.”
“I’ll answer your questions.”
“I’ll talk too.”
“I’ll-”
Lu Yin moved up the cliff, listening as people started to talk over each other. However, no one was able to say much before Luo Ning cut them off. He glared down at Lu Yin. “Enough tricks! No one is allowed to speak to him.”
People were irritated by that proclamation. They were desperate to learn a powerful technique like the short man, yet none were willing to offend Luo Ning.
Still, even though Luo Ning had interrupted everyone, Lu Yin had succeeded in getting a general idea of what was going on.
The palace was putting constant pressure on anyone who approached it in the form of memories. This made it difficult for anyone to get close to the palace. However, the oppressive memories occasionally included memories regarding cultivation, and that could greatly benefit those who received them.𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
The Nine Odysseys Megaverse had constantly sent people to this palace, and over the course of countless years, a good number had received impressive benefits.
The most important detail was a comment that a woman had made: inside the palace was something that even the Greater Sancti were interested in.
Luo Ning had interrupted the moment that comment had been made.
Lu Yin looked over at Luo Ning. “You’re not a very likable kid.”
Luo Ning glared down at Lu Yin. “The more you know, the sooner you’ll die.”
Lu Yin arched a brow. “By you?”
Luo Ning sneered. “I have the privilege of being allowed to meet with the Greater Sancti. As soon as I report what has happened here, all of the unstable elements in the three megaverses, including you, will be erased. You don’t have much time.”
Lu Yin’s eyes grew cold. “Believe it or not, you might be the one to struggle to get out of this place alive.”
Luo Ning glanced at the other people who were close to him. “They just shared quite a bit with you. You should fulfill your promise and teach them some techniques.”
All of the people nearby looked at Lu Yin with eager eyes. It was true. Even though Luo Ning had stopped them from saying much, they had still revealed a good deal of information.
Luo Ning added on, “Take turns watching him. That way, you can record whatever technique he teaches, and then all of you can learn it together.”
“Right! Why didn’t we think of that? Thank you for the suggestion, Young Master Luo Ning.”
“This will allow everyone to learn the technique. Hey, teach me! I use a whip.”
“I use finger techniques.”
“I focus on the mace.”
“Me too!”
“Hey, you’re not about to try to weasel out of your promise, are you?” someone asked.
Lu Yin could not hold back a laugh. “Of course not! However, I don’t remember exactly who said what, so here’s the deal: I’m fine with teaching you battle techniques.”
A finger rose. “But I’m only going to teach one person. Whether it’s a technique for a whip, finger, mace, whatever, I’m only going to teach one person. Have them share it with the rest of you.”
“That works.”
“The person needs to be talented enough. If not, how will they be able to remember everything?”
“I recommend Young Master Luo Ning.”
“He’s the only suitable one I can think of as well.”
Even with everyone recommending him, Luo Ning flatly refused. “I don’t have time for that.”
He had no interest in any technique that Lu Yin might be willing to teach. There was no way the man would share a truly invincible technique with anyone atop the cliff. Going along with this would be nothing but a waste of time.
No one had the courage to press Luo Ning, so they shifted their focus elsewhere.
Lu Yin pointed at Luo Ning. “I’m only willing to teach him. No one else.”
“On what grounds? Young Master Luo Ning never told you anything!”
“That’s where you’re wrong. He shared the most important bit of information of any of you.”
Everyone was left confused. The most important information?
Luo Ning’s eyes narrowed, and he tried to remember everything he had said. Had he let something important slip?
Lu Yin gravely stated, “He told me the Nine Odysseys Megaverse is going to move against us. Isn’t that the most important bit of information?”
Everyone was left speechless. Technically, what Lu Yin said made sense, though it also seemed off.
It would not be true to say that the information was worthless, as Lu Yin was now able to prepare. However, it was also a bit of a stretch to say that the information was valuable. After all, Luo Ning’s comment had been basically a threat.
“Don’t be ridiculous! Young Master Luo Ning never told you anything! You’re trying to go back on your promise,” someone argued.
Many of the young people started accusing Lu Yin of being dishonest, but he just shrugged. “Regardless, I’ll only teach him.”
Everyone looked at Luo Ning with pleading expressions, only for him to turn around and leave. He could not even be bothered to respond.
He knew that agreeing would only waste his time and give Lu Yin a chance to use him. Luo Ning did not care what the others might think. He had only made his earlier comment in order to insult Lu Yin, and yet things had turned on Luo Ning.
Lu Yin laughed loudly. “He really isn’t likable. Have fun on your own.”
With that, he moved back to the foot of the cliff.
The people in the group exchanged glances, their expressions growing complicated when they looked at Luo Ning.
They understood that they were being ignored. Normally, this would not be anything unusual, but now it represented the possibility of missing out on obtaining a powerful battle technique. His disregard suddenly felt like a genuine loss.
The woman leading the group frowned. The atmosphere among the young people had shifted. When Luo Ning had revealed his identity, everyone had initially grown both envious and reverent of him, but now...
She glanced down the cliff. The man below was truly devious, but so was the other one. She still had no idea how either of them had learned about the Scion Spire, but the two had nearly succeeded in tricking everyone.
In any case, it was clear that the three megaverses needed to be purged.
