Chapter 3655: Destruction

Chapter 3655: Destruction

Lu Yin lowered his spirit cloudstone. For the time being, the more spirit seeds he had, the better.

Was 30 trillion spirit seeds truly a lot? Each of the thirty-six domains was home to billions of cultivators at the least. Who could possibly know just how many spirit seeds were in existence? On top of that, no one knew where the spirit seeds came from. It was very likely that they originated from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. How else could the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Lesser Sancti take them back at will?

In a way, Lu Yin was actually helping the Spirit Nidus. If their spirit seeds were taken from them, cultivators would die without any doubt.

He had done a good deed. Come to think of it, could this be one of the reasons why the High Seraph has left me be?

Su Shidao moved out from the Spirit Treasure Domain after receiving orders from the Ascendant Hall to attack the parallel universe that Lu Yin had indicated as the likely hiding location of one of the Thirteen Luminaries.

Su Shidao did not move out alone; Meng Sang, Jiu Xian, and even Zi Tianshu were all part of the assault. Zi Tianshu had even given Heaven's Seal to Old Salamander, returning the sequence base to the ruler of the Primal Beastland, its original owner.

With Heaven's Seal Foundation in his possession, Old Salamander had gained legitimate status. While he was not an official Seraph, his status was no different from one. He also moved out and headed for the Ascendant Hall.

Parallel universes with hidden conscients had been attacked in the past, and the losses had been catastrophic for the conscients. Even Hua Manyi, one of the Thirteen Luminaries, had been captured. Because of this, the remaining conscients had relocated, and they were unaware of where their other kind were hiding.

Still, this meant nothing to Lu Yin. With his die’s Possession ability, there was nowhere in the Spirit Nidus for the conscients to hide. Their only escape from Lu Yin would be to flee back to the Consciousness Megaverse. Lu Yin could pull them out as many times as he wanted.

Some of the targeted parallel universes yielded results this time, while others revealed nothing. Even Lu Yin was surprised by this. The conscients were only briefly staying in any given parallel universe before quickly relocating to another. They were testing how well informed of their movements the Spirit Nidus was while also trying to understand how their locations had been exposed.

This was no different from how Yi Shang had tested Lu Yin.

Unfortunately for the conscients, they would never find the reason.

Still, Lu Yin had already considered one possibility: if the day ever came when Yong Heng joined forces with the Consciousness Megaverse, Lu Yin’s secret would be completely exposed.

Yong Heng could blackmail Lu Yin, and because of that, Lu Yin had never fully trusted their supposed alliance.

Yong Heng had countless ways to reveal Lu Yin’s secret, and so, Lu Yin intended to fully leverage his Possession before it was exposed.

He was short on time. He needed to tear out more karmic bricks, but he also needed to continue rolling his die.

Lu Yin sighed, lamenting that he could not duplicate himself, but he simply could not accept using something like the Nine Clones Secret Technique.

His spirit cloudstone trembled, and he heard the voice of the High Seraph echo. “Where is the other Luminary?”

“I’ve already shared everything I know. If they’ve already escaped, then there’s nothing to be done about it.”

“Find them, and I can exempt Boundless from joining the expedition to the Consciousness Megaverse,” the High Seraph promised.

Lu Yin barked a mocking laugh. “What’s this? Is the dignity of the Ascendant Hall no longer important? You traded Wu Wei to me before, and this time you’re allowing Boundless to skip out on the expedition. You’ll completely ruin your reputation as the High Seraph.”

“That doesn’t matter, compared to the safety of the Spirit Nidus.”

“Unfortunately, I truly don’t know. The conscients aren’t stupid, and they’ve started constantly moving about, like birds startled by a gunshot. You’re not the only one who can’t find them—I can’t either. They’ve become especially wary of me.”

The High Seraph considered the matter for a moment. “Are you certain that another one of the Thirteen Luminaries is still hiding here?”

Lu Yin arched a brow. “No. There might be two.”

“There aren’t that many,” the High Seraph stated confidently. He knew that he had swept away five of the Thirteen Luminaries when he had attacked the Consciousness Megaverse in the past. That was the battle that had allowed Qi Zun to capture Wu Wei. It was not so easy to refill the Thirteen Luminaries’ numbers.

Lu Yin casually mentioned, “If you don’t believe me, that’s fine, but the Consciousness Megaverse is far more cunning than you’ve given them credit for.”

With that, the conversation was over. There were some things that did not need to be expounded upon; simply mentioning them was enough.

The High Seraph wanted to completely destroy the Consciousness Megaverse, but Lu Yin’s warning was enough to prevent the expedition from leaving. Unless the risk was completely resolved, the High Seraph would not feel comfortable leaving the Spirit Nidus, not unless they left at least two of the Seven Seraphs behind.

But that would be very difficult to do. Zhan Ming had sealed himself off in his domain, which had essentially rendered him useless to the High Seraph. The only others available were Old Salamander, Yuan Qi, Meng Sang, Jiu Xian, Su Shidao, and Lu Yin.

Old Salamander and Meng Sang both answered to Yong Heng, while Su Shidao could be considered Lu Yin’s. No matter who the High Seraph left behind, he would not feel comfortable. The Seven Seraphs were just as grave a threat as the hidden conscients.

Right, there’s still Yong Heng. If Lu Yin could not find a way to deal with that man, he would never be able to relax.

While the Spirit Nidus was officially able to launch the attack on the Consciousness Megaverse at any time, the truth was that the day of the expedition remained far in the future.

With the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Lesser Sancti having been pulled into the open, no one could predict what might happen next.

It was time for Lu Yin to resume tearing out bricks.

...

On the surface, the Spirit Nidus appeared to have achieved peace. However, in an unfamiliar universe, a war that shook reality raged.

Cultivators clashed as they soared through the sky. Far away, bright streaks of light fell, shattering planets.

A dark-gold canopy hung from above, seemingly shrouding the entire universe.

Ru Can dropped to one knee, coughing up blood. His face was ashen as he stared up at the sky. Why is this happening? Who? Who would dare to strike my Ru family? This is Heavenspire! Who would dare to attack us here?

The family’s patriarch, Ru Guo possessed earth-shaking strength, and yet he was being locked down by the dark-gold canopy and unable to join the battle. He was like a giant struggling to hold up the weight of the sky.

If the canopy fell, the entire Ru family would be destroyed.

Down on the ground, homes lay in ruins, and flames rose high into the sky. Ru Mu was sprawled out in the ashes on the ground, a terrified maid at her side.

Wails of pain and anguish rang out from various members of the Ru family. Cultivators fell from the sky like raindrops, and corpses covered the land.

In a distant part of the sky, Cheng Gong was thrilled. Finally, the day had arrived. The Ru family, whom they had been forced to bow to for so long, enduring humiliation, could finally be replaced.

“Kill! Wipe out the Ru family!”

“Kill!”

“Kill!”

Countless cultivators swarmed to join the attack as the Ru family, like cornered beasts, fought with desperation. Blood stained the earth red, and even the rivers stank of blood.

The dark-gold canopy trembled as Ru Guo spat out blood, roaring, “I have been acknowledged as the substitute for our Lesser Sancte! Yue Ya, have you even considered the consequences of slaughtering my Ru family?”

A streak of dark-gold light shot out. It pierced through Ru Guo’s body and knocked him to the ground.

The dark-gold canopy then slammed down, illuminating the face of every member of the Ru family, exposing their despair, misery, and terror. This calamity was their apocalypse

Suddenly, the dark-gold canopy froze, stopping when it was less than 100 meters above the heads of the Ru family.

Ru Guo slammed to the ground, half of his body numb and paralyzed.

Ru Can was nearby, and he clenched his teeth as he glared up at the sky. His entire body was shrouded in the dark-gold light. Whether he lived or died rested solely upon their enemy’s whim.

“You are so inferior to Ru Shi that you are unable to even block my Voidheart Mirror. Just what allows you to replace Ru Shi as a Lesser Sancte?”

Ru Guo looked up, half his face streaked with blood and twisted in anguish. He forced down the pain as he roared, “I hold this title by the decree of the Greater Sancti! I stand as a Lesser Sancte at their command! Do you truly dare to kill me?”

“Since when does a Lesser Sancte need to rely on such favors in order to merely survive? You bring shame upon the Nine Odysseys Megaverse!”

Ru Guo’s face grew pale, and he coughed up even more blood.

Countless cultivators gathered from all around to encircle the Ru family. They all stood beyond the dark-gold canopy, staring at the family with conflicted, yet mocking, expressions.

The Ru family, which had once ruled this universe, was meeting their end.

“Back when Ru Shi lost to the High Seraph, he disgraced our Nine Odysseys Megaverse. His death was demanded by the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Even the Spirit Nidus upholds the principle that a Seraph cannot be defeated. How much more important should that be for our Nine Odysseys Megaverse?

“Ru Guo, do you believe yourself worthy of becoming a Lesser Sancte?

“Are you worthy?

“Are you really worthy?”

Ru Guo was both humiliated and enraged. He coughed up yet more blood, his body trembling as his fury reached its peak.

“The moment that Ru Shi lost to the High Seraph, the Ru family was already a thing of the past. If you cannot see that clearly for yourself and still dare to meddle in my affairs, you should not be surprised by this outcome.”

Ru Guo became terribly confused. “When did our Ru family ever meddle in your affairs?”

“Ru Guo, I can spare you a life, or even a few lives of your Ru family members, if you do something for me. Fail, and your Ru family will be completely exterminated.”

Shortly, the entire Ru family vanished beneath the dark-gold canopy.

Cheng Gong led a group of cultivators forward. At this moment, even someone as cold and indifferent as Cheng Gong found it difficult to contain his excitement. Finally, he would replace the Ru family.

“I can now break through...” Cheng Gong murmured to himself as he stared at the dark-gold canopy.

“You’ve endured in silence for long enough. Now that you’ve seized your moment, don’t forget: I handed it to you.”

Then, several corpses dropped from the sky. Cheng Gong stared at them, his pupils shrinking.

These corpses belonged to the same cultivators who had once promised to help him attack Lu Yin after the battle at the source of the Fu River. However, after witnessing Lu Yin’s victory over Emperor Wu, these people had pulled back, scared to act. They had even called Cheng Gong a fool.

Now, all of them were dead. They had all perished beneath the dark-gold canopy.

There was even the corpse of a Dukkhan among the dead, though the rest had only been Ortusers. In the eyes of a Lesser Sancte, all of them could be casually executed.

Cheng Gong respectfully replied, “I shall be your most loyal ally.”

The dark-gold canopy disappeared, and Cheng Gong let out a long breath. The Ru family was no more.

He had endured for far too long while waiting for this day. He had even held himself back when Lu Yin had killed his son. Finally, the moment that Cheng Gong had been waiting for had arrived.

He looked back at the corpses. The Lesser Sancte had not even spared the Dukkhan. These executions served as both a gift, as well as a warning, from Yue Ya.

To anyone else seeing it, the scene was truly bizarre.

Cheng Gong was nothing more than an Ortuser, and yet a Lesser Sancte like Yue Ya regarded him highly enough to kill a Dukkhan as a gift. It almost seemed to be confirming that Cheng Gong was qualified to replace the Ru family in holding the position of a Lesser Sancte.

Cheng Gong had also merely claimed to be an ally of Lesser Sancte Yue Ya. Just what gave Cheng Gong the right to make such a claim?

Lesser Sancte Yue Ya was far more powerful than Cheng Gong. It was not a slight difference, as a truly massive gap existed between them.

Only Yue Ya and Cheng Gong themselves understood that becoming a Lesser Sancte did not mean standing alone. One still needed disciples, subordinates. In Yue Ya’s eyes, Cheng Gong had the potential to become a Lesser Sancte, and the techniques he had mastered made that a possibility. For that reason, Cheng Gong could only ever be an ally, not a follower.

After all, how could one Lesser Sancte serve another?

Cheng Gong stared at his hands. Yue Ya needed him—as a future Lesser Sancte, as someone with influence, as someone useful. And he, in turn, needed Yue Ya. Without such an alliance, he would end up like that person—no matter how powerful, still unable to escape a fatal end.

If even that person could not survive, then what chance did they have alone?

As for Lu Yin, he would also suffer a terrible fate. That was another gift.

...

Near the Ascendant Hall, the void behind the Morrow Behemoth warped as a figure emerged. The man’s aura betrayed his hesitation, and it was also clear that he was gravely injured.

The moment the man appeared outside the Apex Palace, Lan’s expression changed, but just as she was about to move, she heard the High Seraph’s voice and stopped.

She stared outside. Is that someone from Heavenspire?

The person who had appeared was none other than Ru Guo. His injuries were terrible, and his expression was conflicted as he looked up at the Ascendant Hall.

Sure enough, the High Seraph had done nothing, just as Yue Ya had claimed.
