Chapter 3652: Said Too Much
Yue Ya approached Old Yu, but just as the man was about to speak, he glanced over at Jiu Xian. With a frown, he hesitated.
Old Yu and Jiu Xian could both tell that something was off with this man, and he, in turn, was able to sense that something was off with the two of them. While they might not know exactly how many people from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse were in the Spirit Nidus, they did know all of the most famous individuals.
“Who do you represent?” Old Yu asked.
The man looked at Old Yu and replied in a voice so low that only Old Yu could hear the answer. “Yue Ya.”
Old Yu’s expression shifted slightly, and his demeanor changed as well. There was a hint of newfound respect.
“Why is Yong Heng staying in the Wisdom Domain?” the newcomer asked.
“He wishes to cooperate with the Wisdom Domain,” Old Yu replied.
“You promised him a place when a megaverse is reset?”
Old Yu did not know how to answer that question. Whether the request was granted or not was not his decision to make, and he first needed to speak with the one supporting him. On top of that, Old Yu could not casually reveal any information; this man represented Yue Ya, and just like the person behind Old Yu, Yue Ya was one of the Lesser Sancti who was currently vying for the available Greater Sancte position. While they might not openly be enemies, they were certainly not allies.
Old Yu might fear Yue Ya, but that did not mean that he could reveal everything.
The man sneered. “You don’t want to talk? It looks like the Ru family raised a well-trained dog.”
That infuriated Old Yu, and he glared at the man. “You presume too much with your words! Even if you represent a Lesser Sancte, you are not one yourself. My cultivation surpasses your own!”
The man scoffed. “Given how the Ru family has fallen, do you think that you qualify to compete with us for people?”
He then turned back to look at the reed-filled lake, and he spoke for Yong Heng’s ears alone. “Take Lu Yin to the Morrow Behemoth’s hand, and I will give you the Nine Heavens Transformation and a place when a megaverse is reset. The Ru family cannot offer you that. I can promise you that you won’t receive a single place from them.
“I’ll have them come speak to you themselves.” With that, the man turned and left the Wisdom Domain, not even glancing at Old Yu a second time.
Old Yu was tempted to attack the man, but he eventually held himself back. He was restrained by something.
Jiu Xian had not heard a word of their conversation, but just seeing Old Yu’s expression was enough to tell her that nothing good had been said.
“Old man, what’s going on? Who does that man represent?”
Old Yu refused to answer. His expression was dark as he looked back at Yong Heng. Is this man really here to work with us, or was he luring trouble to our door? What is his goal in bringing a representative of another Lesser Sancte to the Wisdom Domain?
Regardless of what Yong Heng’s intentions might be, Yue Ya’s representative had already made bold threats to Old Yu. No matter what, he could not back down, not unless he received direct orders from above.
At this point, even if Yong Heng wanted to leave, Old Yu would not allow it. Letting the man go would give off the impression that he was afraid of the threats.
A few days later, Ge Yao arrived at the Wisdom Domain and asked to speak with Jiu Xian.
This request surprised both Old Yu and Jiu Xian. Was that another person from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse? What was going on? People from that place should not appear this frequently.
Ge Yao behaved differently from their previous visitor. She was always polite, and she maintained a sweet smile.
“Senior Jiu Xian, I’d like to have a word with you.”
Jiu Xian did not refuse. Ge Yao gave Old Yu a polite nod, and then she moved a short distance away with Jiu Xian to have a private conversation without the Wisdom Domain overhearing.
“Who do you represent?” Jiu Xian asked immediately.
Ge Yao’s expression grew solemn. “Lord Yue Ya.”
Jiu Xian nodded. “What do you want with me?”
“Senior, why are you keeping Lord Lu in your valley?” Ge Yao asked.
Jiu Xian was completely baffled by the question.
Ge Yao stared at the other woman. “Senior Jiu Xian, please do us this small favor and allow me to take Lord Lu away. Lord Yue Ya will remember your kindness.”
Jiu Xian indifferently asked, “Did you hear this from Lord Lu?”
“Are you unwilling to admit to it, Senior?”
While the girl remained polite, her words carried both a hint of pressure and an arrogant tone, which Jiu Xian found extremely unpleasant. “Lord Lu is the one who refuses to leave. I have nothing to do with his actions.”
Ge Yao chuckled. “So, you really don’t want to admit to it, Senior? Didn’t Lady Dan Jin announce that she wouldn’t participate in the competition for the Greater Sancte position? Why are you doing this then?”
Jiu Xian grew puzzled. “What does this have to do with Lady Dan Jin?”
“If not for Lady Dan Jin, why would someone with your personality get involved in such a matter?” Ge Yao challenged.
Jiu Xian genuinely had no idea what was happening, but one thing had become clear: she was being used. It was no wonder why Lu Yin had refused to leave her valley; he had been waiting for this.
However, why was Yue Ya insisting on getting Lu Yin out of the valley?
“Where do you want to take Lord Lu?” Jiu Xian asked tentatively.
Ge Yao answered with a small smile, “Why ask what you already know? If you truly don’t know, then you would have never kept Lord Lu in your valley. Since Lady Dan Jin has chosen to intervene, we will all need to rely on our own abilities. Just a small reminder, but it’s not easy to step back after taking action. Take care, Senior.”
With that, the young woman turned around and left.
Jiu Xian stared at Ge Yao’s back as she moved away. The Seraph’s expression remained dark. She did not say a word before she turned around and left for the Roaming South Realm.
Old Yu had watched the two women have their conversation, and his eyes flickered as his thoughts raced after he saw them both leave.
Something was very wrong. For so many people from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse to suddenly appear one after another, there was no doubt that someone was stirring things up.
Old Yu looked back at the reeds-filled lake. There, he saw Yong Heng smiling back at him.
Jiu Xian returned to the Roaming South Realm to find Lu Yin still lounging in the recliner, completely at ease. Her rage spiked at the sight. She wanted nothing more than to beat the young man.
“Oh, you’re back,” Lu Yin greeted. “Make yourself at home. Do you want something to eat? I have to admit, that kid Qing Xiao’s quite the cook. Back in the Tianyuan Megaverse, I met someone who was called the God of Food, and let me tell you—”
“You’re using me,” Jiu Xian interrupted.
Lu Yin looked confused. “Why would you say that? That’s not a very nice thing to hear.”
Jiu Xian glared at Lu Yin. “Why were Yue Ya’s people looking for you?”
Lu Yin’s eyes flickered. Yue Ya? Not Xing Fan? Xing Fan was the one who had forced Emperor Wu to his death and had manipulated him to try to lure Lu Yin to the Morrow Behemoth’s hand... So what was Yue Ya’s connection to that incident? Could Yue Ya be the real mastermind behind the attempts to lure Lu Yin to that place? If so, then what was Xing Fan’s role?
“You knew that Yue Ya was looking for you, so you hid here in my home, dragging Lady Dan Jin into this mess. Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Lady Dan Jin was not intending to compete for the position of Greater Sancte, but because of what you’ve done, she’s now being forced into it.” Jiu Xian’s eyes blazed with killing intent as she glared at Lu Yin.
While Qing Yun and Qing Xiao had no idea who Yue Ya or Dan Jin were, judging by Jiu Xian’s expression, they understood just how much trouble Lu Yin had caused for Jiu Xian with his presence.
Qing Xiao grimaced. This only confirmed his belief that Lu Yin was completely despicable.
Even Qing Yun was furious, and she glared at Lu Yin.
He just rolled his eyes. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Yue Ya, Dan Jin—what’s with all these names? It’s completely confusing.”
Jiu Xian continued to scold him, “Getting involved with Yue Ya is bad enough, but now you’ve drawn all of the Lesser Sancti in as well! Do you really think that they’re unaware? As soon as they catch on, that’ll be the day you die. Not even the High Seraph will be able to save you.”
Lu Yin laughed. “When has the High Seraph ever protected me?”
Jiu Xian’s eyes narrowed sharply. “You’re underestimating the Lesser Sancti. Your schemes and underhanded tricks might work for a time, but the gap between you and them is an insurmountable chasm, and it will drive you to despair. Lu Yin, you are playing with fire.”
A smile slowly spread across Lu Yin’s face. “That’s still better than dying ignorant of everything.”
Jiu Xian hesitated, suddenly remembering Emperor Wu. She then felt like she might understand why Lu Yin had done these things, and she also realized that she might have said too much. It was possible that he had not known many of the actual details, but she had just given him people’s names.
It was at that moment that she also remembered Yong Heng.
“Is Yong Heng in the Wisdom Domain because of you?”
“You’re giving me too much credit. Yong Heng and I are mortal enemies.”
Jiu Xian did not believe him. Lu Yin had arrived at her Roaming South Realm. By doing so, he had dragged the Lesser Sancte behind Jiu Xian—Dan Jin—into the current competition while also offending Yue Ya. At the same time, Yong Heng had gone to the Wisdom Domain. Judging by Old Yu’s behavior, the person from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse must have said something unpleasant to him. While Jiu Xian did not know exactly which Lesser Sancte that man represented, she was certain that he had been looking for Yong Heng. With Yong Heng in the Wisdom Domain, it meant the Lesser Sancte who was behind the Wisdom Domain had also been dragged into the mess.
While Jiu Xian did not know who had manipulated the events that had led to Emperor Wu’s death, at least four of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s five Lesser Sancti had been dragged into the fray. It was possible that they were all involved.
Their rivalry had not been out in the open in the past, but at this moment, the Lesser Sancti were on the verge of open hostilities.
Lu Yin had not used a complicated scheme, but he had chosen a direction that made it very difficult for anyone to refuse to participate.
There was only one Greater Sancte position available; who would not want it? Who did not wish to reach the Immortal realm? The five Lesser Sancti were competing for that position, and just by casually provoking them, Lu Yin was able to drag everyone into the fray. It had been all too easy.
Jiu Xian and Old Yu were both intelligent people, and they were already able to see the problem, which meant that others could as well, but so what? After being dragged into the water, it was difficult to get back out.
The Lesser Sancti were like five travelers dying of thirst in a desert. There was a single cup of water in front of them, but it was only barely enough to let one person survive. No matter how clever a person might be, in that situation, they would fight for the water. How the water got there, or why there was only one cup, was completely irrelevant.
“Hm? Where are the snacks?” Lu Yin asked, looking over at Qing Xiao.
Qing Xiao replied with open irritation, “Gone.”
“Then go make more!” Lu Yin smacked the man on the back of his head again. Qing Xiao nearly cursed out loud at the shameless man who had infuriated Jiu Xian so much. The siblings had not seen the Seraph upset in years, and yet Lu Yin still wanted to enjoy snacks? Dream on!
Qing Yun angrily yanked her hand away.
“Why is Yue Ya looking for you?” Jiu Xian asked.
Lu Yin smiled. “Now you’re curious about that too? Is that you asking the question, or is it your backer, Lady Dan Jin?”
Jiu Xian stared at Lu Yin for a long moment, and then she pulled out her gourd of wine and drank deeply before letting out a breath of relief. Her expression slightly relaxed. “Don’t compare the Lesser Sancti to the High Seraph. The High Seraph may be a Lesser Sancte, but that does not mean that all of the Lesser Sancti are the High Seraph.
“If you underestimate the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, you will regret it. You cannot bear to pay this price on your own. The Nine Odysseys Megaverse can easily accomplish what is impossible for the Spirit Nidus.
“Consider the Tianyuan Megaverse that lays behind you.” With that, Jiu Xian turned and left the valley.
Lu Yin’s eyes flickered. Was she really not going to ask? “I can tell you why Yue Ya’s after me.”
Jiu Xian vanished without even a backwards glance.
Lu Yin was surprised. Seriously? She doesn’t want to know?
Is Dan Jin another one of the Lesser Sancti? Judging by Jiu Xian’s attitude, it appeared that her backer was truly uninterested, but that was impossible. No one could resist the temptation of becoming an Immortal. For someone to become a Lesser Sancte, it was unavoidable for them to long to become a Greater Sancte.
For that matter, how had one of the Greater Sancti positions become vacant?
If the Greater Sancti were all Immortals, then how could such a position have become available? Had someone died?
Or had their title been revoked?
“You two, go make some snacks, and don’t come back until you’ve prepared a hundred servings.” Lu Yin drove the siblings away.
Qing Yun glared at Lu Yin. “You’re too much!”
Lu Yin waved her complaints away. “Shoo, shoo. Who said that you could talk?”
“You’ll get what’s coming to you!” Qing Xiao shouted.
“Make me a thousand servings, or else I’ll hang you outside the valley like I did Yu Shan,” Lu Yin threatened.
“You’ll get what’s coming to you—” Qing Xiao’s voice faded into the distance.
