Sun Hao felt he understood Lord Yang’s grievances and resentment. Huaixi Province seemed to be populated with a bunch of eccentric individuals!
Communication seemed futile; it was all so unreasonable!
"Fine!" Sun Hao ground out the word through gritted teeth. He spoke icily, "General Zheng, don’t regret this decision in the future."
Zheng Sangge smiled calmly and replied, "Rest assured, I haven’t regretted my choices in the past decade, and I won’t start now."
Sun Hao shot Zheng Sangge a suspicious glance.
He sensed an underlying implication in Zheng Sangge’s words but lacked concrete evidence.
Snorting coldly, Sun Hao continued, "In that case, prepare a letter for me to deliver to the old general."
Zheng Sangge agreed without hesitation.
That evening, he handed the letter to Sun Hao, adding, "I’ve arranged for your departure tomorrow morning. General Sun, return promptly to save Old General Sun any inconvenience."
Sun Hao sneered inwardly, convinced that Zheng Sangge harbored delusions of the old general’s fondness for him. Dream on! If you fail to appreciate favors, you may find yourself on opposite sides in the future. Don’t expect the old general or the Sun family to show you any mercy...
Sun Hao was originally unwilling to prolong his stay in Huaixi Province. Upon hearing the plan for his departure, he readily agreed. The following morning, he left without delay.
Upon Sun Meng’s return to Wuchang, he discovered that Old General Sun had already departed for Xiangyang City with Sun Pu. Quickly catching up, Sun Meng reported the outcome of his trip to his father.
Old General Sun expressed his displeasure at Zheng Sangge’s lack of respect.
"It’s been years since someone of his standing dared to defy me in such a manner. This is unprecedented," Old General Sun lamented.
Sun Pu smirked, "Father, did you see that? There’s not a single decent person in Huaixi Province. They’re all schemers. Zheng Sangge must have some hidden agenda. He’s either ambitious or feels guilty!"
"Since he’s made his choice, we needn’t dwell on it. He showed no remorse initially, so there’s no point expecting it from him in the future," Sun Meng added.
Old General Sun nodded, letting out a sigh. "So be it. Let’s put this behind us."
"Dad, we must keep an eye on Shao Yunduan! There’s a reason he’s recruiting Zheng Sangge and his group!" Sun Pu warned.
General Sun glanced at his son, offering a smile. Then, turning to Sun Meng, he dismissed Shao Yunduan’s significance. "Shao Yunduan isn’t worth our concern. Focus on honing your skills and wait for the opportune moment to redeem yourself!"
Sun Pu was left somewhat puzzled by his father’s response.
General Sun remarked, "Just observe how Ms. Qiao handles Sun Meng and Lord Yang. She may be haughty and willful, but Shao Yunduan indulges her, allowing her to run rampant. Over time, Shao Yunduan’s subordinates will lose faith in him. Allowing a woman to meddle in government affairs is not fitting for a leader. What is there to fear?"
Sun Pu and Sun Meng were initially taken aback before erupting into laughter.
"Father, you’re absolutely right. Why didn’t I see that?"
"Truly, you’re a seasoned general. Your insights far surpass ours. I’m convinced!"
