Being a ninja in his previous life, he had some rules he had to cherish more than his life. One of such codes was that the life of his client was the top priority. That's what every ninja in the village followed. Somehow or another it seems Klautz unconsciously considered Dant to be his client and took action to protect him from the beast by instinct, even though he never intended to do so.
"To do such a mistake after I have come so far. Welp, now that I gave away my location, I better fight this beast."
[Flashback]
"Congratulations to be promoted to a C rank ninja. You can do client based missions from now on." The lady smiled as she passed onto a card to Klautz. She was wearing a white outfit that ran upto the top of her breasts leaving her shoulder blades bare. One could see her chain armor over her skin and those very blades.
It was a card used for identification in the ninja village, Kishiokagure. Since some ninjas tend to keep their identity hidden this was the most sure fire way of identification for the administration for assigning quests.
"Thank you," Klautz took hold of the card. He had a grin that could not be contained no matter what. His beaming face full of strong color and sheen.
Klautz put away his card as he giggled. And why won't he? He had worked so hard for this. Doing missions day and night. Training hard everyday. Not to mention how much he had to sacrifice for this.
"I am sure you know this already. But I have to still remind you as per the rules. Now that you are doing client based missions. You must remember that no matter what happens. Never ever put your client in any sort of dangers. The life of the clients is the top priority," she said as she glared at Klautz. Klautz could almost feel his heart getting pierced with her piercing gaze. "If you don't want to end up as a rogue ninja that is," she whispered to herself. But her rambling didn't passed unnoticed to Klautz.
*Gulp*
Klautz nodded his head as fast as he could.
"Yes I know"
The lady nodded as she smiled again.
"Good. I have high expectations from you. You are hardworking indeed. You must put your client's life before your own"
"Yes I know"
Klautz nodded yet again. He had worked so hard to get at this point. Of course he is not going to lose it just for some stupid mistakes.
'No matter what, a clients life is the priority!' Klautz clenched his fists as he reminded himself.
[Flashback ends]
'Pavlov's Phenomena'1
Something that evidently happened with Klautz.
Once there was a researcher named Ivan Pavlov who conducted an experiment. He rang a bell, then fed a dog. After doing this repeatedly, the pairing of food and bell eventually established the dog's Conditioned Response of salivating to the sound of the bell. After repeatedly doing this pairing, Pavlov removed the food and when ringing this bell, the dog would still salivate.
No matter how much Klautz denied it, he was bound by these same chains of Pavlov. This led him to a sticky situation.
The beast charged at Klautz. It cared about nothing the came in his way. Not even Verona and Bret who was following it with their gaze as their legs shook.
"This beast is too fast!" Bret exclaimed. He fidgeted as he rubbed his forearms. He was already having difficulty following the beast with its naked eye. The Agility stat difference between the two was just humongous. How could Bret even dream to follow the beast? It appeared like a smoke of yellow dust when it ran at full speed.
"Its Agility is too high, even somewhat higher than mine. Maybe if I use that I can make up for it?"
Klautz nodded.
He rubbed his index fingers. It was the item that he had used in his previous stage.
Name: Probationer
Rank: D
Classification: Equipable type
Durability: Max 5 times (4/5)
Effect: For 10 mins, users can choose to increase all their ability +2, use Healing Wave, or Fire Bolt
He had 4 uses left.
"Stats Boost"
[All of the user stats would be boosted by +2]
[Number of uses left: 3/5]
That's right the Probationer could be used for stat boost too increasing them by 2. Might be too small a boost but for their level, even a boost of 2 was good and enough to somehow make up for Klautz lack of agility against the beast.
Klautz pulled up his cloak. It fluttered and wriggled as it turned into a sword which Klautz brought in front of his face. Through the edge of the blade, he watched as the beast approached him on its four foot.
"Roar!"
It struck out its paw.
*clang*
With the claw colliding with the shadows metal it made a shrill sound. The beast struck out his other paw. Klautz dodged his paw making it graze his face. A trickle of blood rolled down his cheek where he had got a slight cut. Klautz licked his blood as he extended his tongue to it.
"Hmm, better not get any major injuries. I have yet another stage to clear after this."
With no healers in Klautz side. This was Klautz best bet. All he could do was dodge every move of this beast and hope that his moves connect too.
***
Klautz fought gallantly with the beast.
In the meantime, Dant who had just escaped with his life from the beast's clutches, couldn't believe what he was seeing with his very eyes. He rubbed his eyes and pinched himself to confirm if he had already died and was just dreaming in his eternal sleep.
"He… He showed up?"
