Chapter 996: Mend The Relationship
A few seconds later, Zhao Kai heaved a massive sigh of relief when he barely made it in time to the platform. His eyes darted to Xu Feng with a resentful gaze.
They hadn’t met for a long time, but instead of giving him any greetings, Xu Feng ignored him.
As if that wasn’t enough, he nearly caused him to be left behind in the exclusive lot.
"Why are you so cruel to me, Feng?" Zhao Kai asked with a wronged expression hanging on his face.
"Stop it, Kai." Disgusted, Xu Feng quickly distanced himself from him. "You’re about to represent our city to compete with other competitors. Mind your appearance and demeanor."
"Tsk, you are just avoiding the topic." Zhao Kai rolled his eyes.
But in the next instance, he asked, "Anyway, how’s the Vanguard Guild doing? I haven’t been able to log on much, so is it still alive? Or is it in shambles already because of your antics?"
Despite Zhao Kai seemingly cursing the Vanguard Guild to be in rubble, Xu Feng understood the former was concerned about the guild.
"Everything’s well at the moment. It’s just that our conflict with the Malefic Order Guild has intensified." Xu Feng pondered for a moment and answered.
Although there had yet to be any crisis, the Resonance Trial was destined to become a sore topic for the Malefic Order guild.
They had made so much preparation and spent so much resources, only to end up being disqualified because of his subtle manipulation.
How could they possibly let the incident slide?
Of course, if Xu Feng were given a choice again. He would do the same thing again without hesitation.
The two of them were considered enemies already, so why should he give way and allow his enemy to be strong?
They weren’t going to let him go either if he didn’t attempt to sabotage them.
Since that was the case, then he might as well hammer the nails in their coffin to ensure it won’t ever be opened again.
"Are you two discussing the Divine World Malefic Order Guild?" Allison suddenly chimed in and inquired.
"Yes," Xu Feng nodded.
"Right, I heard about the Vanguard Guild clashing with Lethal Corp before. Is that true?"
"Mhmm. That’s kind of old news, but yeah. We got bad blood."
Just when Allison wanted to continue, the platform stopped ascending as they arrived at the venue.
Instantly, Alfred took the opportunity to hopefully introduce Xu Feng to his fellow peers.
Even though Xu Feng might not be participating, his skills alone were still enough to enable Alfred to brag along.
"Follow me, Junior Feng. This is a good opportunity for you to build a network and get recognized." Alfred said cheerfully.
"Haha, I don’t need others to recognize me." Xu Feng lightly chuckled and wished to reject his suggestion.
"In life, one should get recognized for things to become easier. There’s no need to be afraid. With my presence here, you can rest assured that you won’t be discriminated against." With that being said, Alfred firmly rejected Xu Feng’s intention to remain discreet.
He then grabbed Xu Feng’s arm and ensured the latter wouldn’t be able to escape from his grasp.
As Alfred dragged Xu Feng away, Allison lost her opportunity. She glanced at Zhao Kai briefly before shaking her head.
Her subtle action nearly caused Zhao Kai to puke out a mouthful of blood.
Damn!
At the very least, he was still the Guild Commander of the Vanguard Guild—someone who had established a sturdy foothold at Evershade City.
If it weren’t for Xu Feng’s strict warning to keep matters a secret, then Zhao Kai would have publicized his deed.
In the Divine World, everyone knew about Carmen and Xu Feng, but nobody paid any attention to him. He wasn’t an attention seeker whatsoever.
However, it was still a very sour feeling when some members of the guild began to question his rank.
After all, in their eyes, even the recluse Honorary Elder contributed more than him, so why should he be qualified for such a rank if it weren’t nepotism.
"What did you want to say earlier, Professor Allison?" Zhao Kai asked, his eyes shifting between her and Xu Feng.
"Feng is probably going to be busy interacting with the others under Elder Alfred’s guidance. He won’t be available for a while, so why not tell me in advance? I can always just relay it back to him."
Allison pondered for a moment. She weighed the pros and cons. In the end, she pursed her lips and asked, "What is your rank within the Vanguard Guild?"
"Can you keep a secret?" Zhao Kai didn’t answer right away. Instead, he asked if she could keep a secret.
"I’m a Professor. I have my code of ethics and morals to uphold."
"Pardon my question, but I need to make sure and hear it from you directly. A player’s identity in the Divine World is more sensitive than a person’s bank account information."
"I understand. Back then, Feng also guided me into the Divine World, so I understand your concern."
With that cleared up, Zhao Kai proceeded to inform her that he held a high position within the guild and could be considered an influential figure—just that he hadn’t exerted his authority yet.
Upon hearing that, Allison didn’t find it surprising. She then revealed what was on her mind all along. "Anyway, what I want to say is that a friend of mine is affiliated with the Lethal Corp. And if possible, I want to mend the relationship between the two."
As soon as Allison finished her sentence, Zhao Kai’s expression turned complicated.
If it weren’t for the fact that the person in front of her was his mentor’s niece and a professor he respected, then Zhao Kai might have left on the spot.
It was no wonder why Allison hoped to discuss things with Xu Feng.
Such an issue was definitely not something Zhao Kai would intervene in.
"I can relay the news, but don’t expect me to do anything convincing, Professor Allison." Zhao Kai ultimately said and refused to elaborate further. Nevertheless, his attitude made it clear that he would only listen to what Xu Feng had in mind.
