The Lizard King struggled continuously, causing the chains to clank noisily.

The figure watched with a smile on his face.

The more noise the Lizard King made, the more likely it was to draw the attention of the Nether Fox.

The figure was like a cunning hunter, waiting for his prey to take the bait.

After a while on the plaza, he strode toward the grand hall.

His footsteps were as light as a cat’s, making not a single sound, clearly not wanting to alert the Nether Fox as he entered the hall.

Hiding behind a stone pillar at the plaza's edge, Song Wu felt that the figure seemed familiar, as if he had seen him somewhere before.

But the distance was too great, and it was pitch-dark all around, so he couldn’t clearly make out the figure’s features.

Two of his Sacred Gu fluttered their wings, quietly flying to the stone gate of the hall to monitor any movement inside.

Song Wu stepped out from behind the stone pillar and moved toward the center of the plaza.

The struggling Lizard King saw Song Wu appear, hatred flickering in its eyes.

Hatred by association!

It despised the person who had entered the hall earlier and now loathed all humans.

Just as it was about to curse, Song Wu made a silencing gesture, beating it to the punch.

“I’m here to rescue you; don’t alert the person inside the hall,” Song Wu whispered.

The Lizard King, hearing this, immediately understood.

The person before him was not allied with that previous villain.

It nodded slightly.

Seeing this, Song Wu pulled out a drawing of the Soul Concealment Jade and held it in front of the Lizard King.

“I’ll free you from these chains. In return, tell me where I can find this stone.”

The Lizard King stared at the drawing for a moment, then its eyes flickered, and it nodded.

Song Wu waved his hand, and the Ghost King suddenly appeared.

The Ghost King stepped forward, grabbed the chain, and yanked it out of the Lizard King’s body.

The heavy chain ripped through the Lizard King’s flesh, dragging with it large pieces of bloody tissue.

The Lizard King grimaced in pain but didn’t utter a sound.

Freed from the chains, the Lizard King immediately slumped from the pillar to the ground.

The Ghost King swung its giant sword, pressing it against the Lizard King’s chest.

“I’ve kept my promise. Now tell me where the Soul Concealment Jade is,” Song Wu whispered.

The Lizard King sat on the ground, panting heavily.

Its injuries were severe, and it needed a moment to catch its breath.

It was precisely because of these severe wounds that Song Wu dared to free it without fear of betrayal.

The Lizard King looked at the huge sword at its chest, then raised its gaze to meet Song Wu’s, a sly glint flashing in its eyes.

“Soul Concealment Jade, Nether Fox, Brow Bone.”

Song Wu’s face stiffened.

“You’re toying with me!”

The Lizard King sneered.

“No lies. The Nether Fox is in the hall. Kill it, and you’ll obtain the Soul Concealment Jade.”

Unable to discern the truth of its words, Song Wu chose not to dwell on it. He activated his escape technique, heading for the edge of the plaza.

The Ghost King withdrew its sword and followed behind Song Wu.

As for the Lizard King, Song Wu did not kill it.

Although heavily injured, the Lizard King still had some strength left. Killing it would surely provoke a desperate counterattack.

No matter the outcome of the battle, it would alert the person inside the hall.

Anyone capable of capturing a third-level Lizard King and several second-level lizardmen was undoubtedly stronger than the Lizard King.

Song Wu acknowledged he was no match for this person and thought it best to keep his distance.

Just as Song Wu had escaped about two miles, still not quite at the edge of the plaza—

Suddenly, a grating, harsh voice echoed.

“Young lad, since you’re here, why hurry to leave?”

Song Wu’s heart tightened.

It was the voice of the person who had captured the Lizard King.

But hadn’t he gone into the hall?

Why did he suddenly appear on the plaza?

When had he left the hall?

Why hadn’t his two Sacred Gu, stationed outside the hall to monitor the person, relayed any information to him?

Song Wen was filled with questions. Disregarding the need to hide, he let lightning flash over his body, accelerating his escape speed.

At that moment—

A shadow flickered.

A figure appeared in front of Song Wen, blocking his path.

“Heh heh! Earlier, I sensed the presence of a living person on the plaza but couldn’t find where you were hiding. So, I sent a phantom into the hall to lure you out. Who would’ve thought it would be you? After all this time, were you really planning to leave without saying hello?”

Song Wen stopped, his expression grave.

The person blocking his path—no doubt—was a corpse puppet refined from a Green wooden statue.

This corpse puppet had previously been seized by Xue Mei and had served as a temporary vessel for her soul.

He hadn’t expected that, after fifteen years, she was still occupying this body.

Xue Mei had somehow reforged the corpse, advancing it into a true third-tier Silver Corpse.

Song Wen’s face was serious. Lightning surged around him, clearly preparing for a life-or-death struggle with Xue Mei.

Perhaps seeing his resolve, Xue Mei spoke.

“Young man, don’t be so tense; I don’t plan to harm you. In fact, you even helped me once. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to break the soul shackles that bound me for tens of thousands of years.”

“You’re here for the Nether Fox in the Nether Shrine, aren’t you?”

“How about we join forces? You lure out the Nether Fox, and I’ll capture it.”

Song Wen watched Xue Mei cautiously and replied, “Once we capture the Nether Fox, I want its brow bone.”

Xue Mei smiled faintly, perhaps attempting a seductive smile.

However, she was currently in the corpse puppet, made from a Green wooden statue.

Her smile looked disturbingly strange.

Grotesque and hideous, truly a sight hard to bear!

“It seems you’ve gotten yourself into big trouble and need the Soul Concealment Jade to conceal your soul power fluctuations.”

Seeing through his intentions, Song Wen was pleased rather than shocked.

Xue Mei’s words confirmed the Lizard King’s earlier statements.

The Soul Concealment Jade was indeed the brow bone of the Nether Fox.

“The brow bone is yours, but the Nether Fox’s corpse belongs to me,” Xue Mei said.

Song Wen nodded, “Fine! However, I know very little about the Nether Fox and the Nether Shrine. Could you enlighten me, senior?”

Xue Mei replied, “Tens of thousands of years ago, the Nether Shrine was a place that countless cultivators feared. You know nothing about the Nether Fox or the Nether Shrine, yet you dared to enter. I’m becoming more and more curious about the trouble you’ve encountered. Might you satisfy my curiosity, young man?”

Song Wen responded, “It’s a personal matter I cannot discuss with outsiders.”

Xue Mei said, “Very well, I won’t pry. I can tell you everything about the Nether Shrine in exchange, but I hope you’ll answer one question honestly in return.”

“What does senior wish to know? If it’s something I’m aware of, I’ll tell you without reservation,” Song Wen said.

“In your years in the cultivation world, have you ever heard of the Profound Yin Physique?” Xue Mei asked.

“Profound Yin Physique?”

Song Wen frowned, contemplating.

The outline of Corpse King Blood Refinement Technique mentioned that both the Profound Yin Physique and the Supreme Yang Physique enhance the cultivation of this technique, doubling the results with half the effort.

Despite having been free for more than a decade, Xue Mei hadn’t reincarnated into a new body and was still inquiring about the Profound Yin Physique, indicating her obsession with Corpse King Blood Refinement Technique.

“This could be an opportunity to completely resolve the issue of Yan Yiwen,” Song Wen thought to himself.

“Reporting to senior, there is a Foundation Establishment cultivator named Yan Yiwen within the demonic Nine Palaces Sect who possesses the Profound Yin Physique,” Song Wen said.

Xue Mei’s face lit up with joy. “Is that true?”

Song Wen replied, “No falsehoods, senior. You’ll find her easily if you seek her out.”

Xue Mei looked intently at Song Wen.

“You told me this so readily—if you’re telling the truth, then this woman must be your enemy. Could it be that your flight into the Endless Desert is somehow connected to her?”

Song Wen looked at Xue Mei without responding.

Xue Mei continued.

“The Profound Yin Physique is the ideal constitution for a furnace vessel. Since this woman is merely at the Foundation Establishment stage, she wouldn’t be a match for you. It seems that the one hunting you likely seeks to capture her yin essence.”

Song Wen was taken aback. Xue Mei’s insight was uncanny, worthy of a creature that had existed for tens of thousands of years.

Her intellect bordered on the demonic!

Changing the subject, Song Wen said, “Senior, I’ve told you about the Profound Yin Physique truthfully. Isn’t it time for you to explain the Nether Shrine and the Nether Fox?”
