Evidence?

Lu Hao hooked his lips. There was no crime scene where evidence wasn’t left behind.

“Wait here for me,” Lu Hao whispered into Su Jin’s ear.

Su Jin nodded. She watched as Lu Hao walked over to the revolting corpse.

Chen Xiarong looked at Lu Hao, incredulous. She knew what his job had been before the apocalypse, and now this posture—could it be…

“Lu Hao, my father was still thinking of you before he died!”

Chen Xiarong couldn’t help but shout out, hoping Lu Hao would remember her father’s kindness and spare her this time.

After examining the body on the ground, Lu Hao stood up and, as if he hadn’t heard her, started walking around the scene again.

“Lu Hao, he…” Liang Wei couldn’t help but ask.

“Uncle Liang, don’t worry, maybe he will find something,”

Su Jin said with a comforting smile. She knew these people were all waiting for the truth, as if looking for a target to vent their anger and sadness, which was why they waited on the side.

After a while, Lu Hao came over, stood in front of Chen Xiarong, and said, “Before burying the body, it seems you forgot to clean up the scene.”

Suddenly, a silver earring appeared in Lu Hao’s hand. It was identical to the one hanging on Chen Xiarong’s right ear!

But her left ear was empty, devoid of an earring.

The evidence was conclusive.

Chen Xiarong collapsed to the ground.

The previous night, Chen Xiarong had learned that Zeng Ling was among the survivors scheduled for relocation the following day, so she had called Zeng Ling out to discuss possibly swapping places with her, as she was registered for the last batch of relocations.

But Zeng Ling said she had already made arrangements with someone else and therefore couldn’t swap, leading to Chen Xiarong pleading incessantly.

Eventually, as Zeng Ling remained unwilling, the two quarreled. Chen Xiarong pushed Zeng Ling, who, unsteady, crashed directly into the broken glass window of a convenience store; an iron frame protruding from the window pierced straight into Zeng Ling’s skull.

“It’s all your fault, all your fault for not agreeing to add my name, I didn’t mean to, wuuu…”

Chen Xiarong actually sat on the ground and started crying.

Su Jin didn’t know what to say. Why did she always push the blame onto others?

Li Haochu looked at Chen Xiarong angrily. Such a person deserved to die a hundred times over and still wouldn’t assuage his hatred.

“It was her! She killed someone and buried the body here, attracting the zombie rats!” a girl shouted loudly.

The scene immediately erupted; people started spitting at her, and as Liang Wei and the others didn’t stop them, the family members of those killed by the zombie rats could not hold back and started hitting her as well.

A little girl, about seven or eight years old, crying, ran out and kept punching Chen Xiarong, all the while shouting, “Give me back my dad, give me back my dad!”

At that moment, Li Haochu walked over, dispersed the crowd around Chen Xiarong, and pulled her to where two bodies covered with plastic bags lay. Towering over her, he said, “Kneel down and apologize to them.”

“What?”

Chen Xiarong raised her tangled head and looked at the two young bodies in front of her.

“It’s not my fault, really it isn’t. Yes, those zombie rats, even if they weren’t attracted by that body today, they would have been around here eventually. They would have come sooner or later… you can’t blame me for this, wuuu…”

Chen Xiarong dared not look at the two bodies; how could it be her fault?

“Brother Lu, Brother Lu, my father really cared about you back then, he even wanted to go to your house to find you,”

Chen Xiarong shouted while lying on the ground. Didn’t Lu Hao have any old affection left?

Lu Hao walked up to Chen Xiarong, knelt down, and said, “I won’t believe a word you say.”

Then, disregarding Chen Xiarong’s stunned gaze, he pulled Su Jin over to Liang Wei and asked, “Can the two of us handle this person?”

“You two?”

Liang Wei looked at Lu Hao in surprise. They indeed knew the woman on the ground.

“Some grudges need to be settled,” Lu Hao said.

Liang Wei thought for a while and then nodded, speaking a few words to Li Haochu before dispersing everyone back to their places.

At this moment, in a corner of the Refuge, only Lu Hao, Su Jin, and Chen Xiarong remained.

“Brother Lu, Brother Lu, I knew it, you wanted to save me, right? Because you smiled at me yesterday, I knew you wouldn’t just abandon me,” Chen Xiarong said while watching Su Jin’s expression.

Lu Hao chuckled lightly, this woman really knew no bounds in trying to incite discord between him and Su Jin.

“I smiled at you yesterday because I could finally kill you,” Lu Hao said.

What?

Kill her?

Why does Brother Lu despise her so much?

“It was you, wasn’t it? What did you say to Brother Lu? Brother Lu, you can’t believe her!”

At this moment, Su Jin didn’t want to explain anything, she smiled and walked up to Chen Xiarong, saying, “That’s right, I said it. If you want to know, maybe you’ll find out after you descend to hell.”

A section of green vine wrapped around Chen Xiarong, and Su Jin controlled the vine to throw her onto Zeng Ling’s corpse.

Chen Xiarong, using all sorts of foul language, cursed at Su Jin while trying to stand up from the disgusting corpse, but just as she lifted her head, she saw Lu Hao approaching her with a ball of Special Ability Fire in his hand.

“No, Lu Hao, I won’t ever forgive you… Ah!”

Lu Hao did not hesitate for a moment and directly threw a man-height ball of Special Ability Fire onto Chen Xiarong and the corpse beneath her…

The screams lasted for only a short while before stopping.

Su Jin stood by quietly watching; she felt no thrill of revenge fulfilled because she knew she hadn’t come back for revenge from the start.

And Chen Xiarong would have died at their hands today or would have been publicly executed by Liang Wei.

She was just a bit worried about Lu Hao, unsure of what he had dreamt last night.

“She killed you and me; I killed her twice, between us, we’re even now,” Lu Hao said.

“She killed you?”

How could it be? How could Lu Hao have been killed by her?! Su Jin looked at Lu Hao incredulously.

“If you died, I would die too.”

Su Jin felt like crying, silently walking behind Lu Hao as he led the way.

She lifted her head; Lu Hao’s silhouette was upright and strong.

Suddenly, she remembered the time they were trapped in a nightmare on North Mountain, that stooping silhouette that held her as they walked into the distance…

Su Jin smiled, she quickened her pace and caught up with Lu Hao, walking shoulder to shoulder with him.

This time, she would never let Lu Hao have such a silhouette again; her man should stand tall and strong.

Chen Xiarong felt an unbearable pain all over her body, but because her trachea was already scorched, she couldn’t make any sound.

They say that one’s life flashes before their eyes right before death; she felt she might have seen her own life’s flash, only in it, the person standing by Lu Hao’s side was her, the one fighting alongside Lu Hao was also her.

Until that woman appeared, she saw herself killing Su Jin; she saw Lu Hao’s angry glare and then it was also Lu Hao who personally killed her…

So, that was it…

Chen Xiarong wanted to laugh, but her facial muscles had already stiffened.

Did she deserve it?

Perhaps…

But inside, she cursed: to hell with this world…
