Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 217: Chapter Two Hundred and Seventeen: Triumph

Liang Jiuqing spent the entire day anxiously waiting by the gate of the base, waiting from the left and the right, but the vehicle transferring the survivors never arrived.

Could they have encountered danger again?

But Big Brother said that Su Jin and Lu Hao were both following this time, so there shouldn’t have been any problems.

“I could see you pacing here from miles away. Why the rush?”

The voice of Liang Jiuhui came from behind. The soldiers guarding the gate and the personnel registering and checking were slightly surprised to see Liang Jiuhui and the others, but then they excitedly saluted him, showing that the Base Leader indeed cared deeply for everyone.

“Brother, why are you here?”

Liang Jiuqing was startled, thinking she hadn’t done anything wrong today, then why her brother came here…

“Oh~ I get it, you’re also worried about the survivors arriving today, right!”

Liang Jiuqing shouted excitedly. Her loud voice caused everyone around, even the people repairing the city wall upstairs, to hear…

People couldn’t help but start discussing among themselves, stating that the current Base Leader was truly considerate of everyone just as the rumors said. Now he had even personally come to wait by the city gate.

“You always talk too much. Go sit over there. You’re making my head dizzy with all this walking around,”

Liang Jiuhui said disdainfully. Liang Jiuqing had been waiting at the gate every day, getting much tanner these past few days. Oh well, he wasn’t worried about whether she could marry in the future; after all, even if she didn’t marry, he would protect her thoroughly.

Liang Jiuqing had no idea what her brother was worried about and unwillingly walked over to the registration area and sat down directly on the table.

“That is… they’re coming!”

Atop the city wall, the people repairing the wall saw a few buses driving into view from afar.

“Where? Where?” Liang Jiuqing stood on the table and looked out.

“Get down! What kind of behavior is that?” Liang Jiuhui scolded.

But he too saw a blue bus coming into sight, followed by a second, a third, a fourth…

“I see them, they’re here!” Liang Jiuqing cried out excitedly.

Her voice affected many people around her, with even some within the city walls crowding over.

Liang Jiuhui finally breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed his decision to have Su Jin and Lu Hao escort the survivors was the right one.

The survivors inside the buses also saw the base’s city wall being built from a distance. The wall was already over five meters high, and although still under construction, its imposing presence was already evident.

Those repairing the wall at this moment also stopped their work and gathered by the edge of the wall, some even waving in welcome.

“Is this the refuge?”

People inside the buses stood up almost in unison.

The people waving welcomingly from atop the wall, along with those standing below waiting for them, cheering…

Even though they did not know each other, at that moment, for some inexplicable reason, they felt an urge to cry.

It was as if they were coming home…

“Sob, sob, sob… from now on, no one is allowed to say anything bad about the refuge,” a girl started sobbing and crying.

They had hardly done anything, and yet so many people welcomed them with joyful cheers, as if they were greeting triumphant warriors.

It turns out there were still so many people who were worried about them.

“I think I see Liang Jiuhui,” said a man at the front.

“What? Even he’s here?”

And so, several buses, along with feelings of amazement and astonishment, came to a halt at the entrance of the base.

Lu Hao had quietly alighted from the bus behind them at some point and made his way to the outside of the bus where Su Jin was, tapping on the door.

The bus driver smiled and pressed the button to open the door. This young couple really did have a good relationship.

Shao Zian and the others watched in surprise as well; such a short time had passed, but the place had already taken on this new look, which was truly astonishing. ṞãΝỘβÈꞨ

This wasn’t his first visit here, but he remembered that the last time he was here, everything was barren; it seemed Liang Wei and Liang Jiuhui’s decision was indeed the right one…

“Welcome to S City Safety Base. Please line up here for body temperature checks, and after being checked, proceed over there to register,” Liang Jiuqing called out loudly.

Since her voice was distinct and loud, the staff at the entrance had grown accustomed to her making the announcements, saving the need for a loudspeaker.

Watching the survivors line up orderly for temperature checks and registration, Su Jin smiled as she held onto Lu Hao’s hand.

It was great; their mission was accomplished.

Meanwhile, Shao Zian stood by Liang Jiuhui, recounting to him the day’s events on the road.

Guan Hong and Xu Shi listened with great surprise as well.

550 survivors and the escort team, with not a single casualty!

Seeing Su Jin and Lu Hao approaching, Liang Jiuhui quickly walked over. A mere thank you seemed too distant, so he simply said, “You’ve come back!”

“Yeah, we’re back,” Lu Hao replied.

Seeing that there were others wanting to speak with Liang Jiuhui, Lu Hao took Su Jin by the hand to line up for temperature checks and registration.

“You two heroes don’t need to queue up! Come here and I’ll take your temperatures!” Liang Jiuqing said cheerfully.

She knew that there was no mission Su Jin and Lu Hao couldn’t complete. The two previous evacuations, though not completely disastrous, had casualties each time. She couldn’t believe that they had encountered Zombie Birds today and still managed to bring everyone back safely; it was incredible!

Su Jin and Lu Hao didn’t decline and went straight to where Liang Jiuqing was to have their temperatures checked.

“Young girl! We really owe you our lives for what you two did today,”

cried out an elderly man, who had brought his grandson with him to relocate today. He had lost all hope when he saw the Zombie Birds, thinking it was all over, but those terrifying Zombie Birds were actually dealt with by these two!

On the way here, they’d encountered many Zombies, which were all effortlessly taken care of by them.

He never imagined he would be able to bring his grandson safely to the refuge, and for this, they owed all their thanks to these two young people.

“Don’t mention it, sir. We were paid, you know. It was Liang Jiuhui who sent us to protect you,”

Su Jin said with a smile. After all, they were just doing their job, taking money to alleviate others’ disasters. Let Liang Jiuhui be the good guy!

Guan Hong facepalmed. Was it really okay for her to mention they were paid?

Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, all the survivors present started to thank Liang Jiuhui, each one referring to him as the Base Leader. Liang Jiuhui couldn’t even stop them.

“Did you do that on purpose?” Lu Hao leaned in and whispered in Su Jin’s ear.

By that time, they had already walked towards the city gate. Watching Liang Jiuhui still mingling, Su Jin suddenly felt that being a Base Leader was quite a tough job.

“Of course I did it on purpose. I can’t handle so many people thanking me, even though I am quite impressive,” said Su Jin with a grin.

“Yeah, we’re both pretty impressive,”

Lu Hao couldn’t help but laugh. Then he remembered the person he had seen at the refuge earlier in the day. How should he broach the subject with Su Jin?

Seeing her in such a good mood now, he decided to let it be, thinking it would be better to bring it up tonight.
