Chapter 1695: Are you not going to let me look at my wife?
"Yes, sir!"
The doctor propped up his spectacles on his nose and nervously inspected Pei Ge's wound. Seeing that it was on her back, he revealed an awkward look, then turned to face Ji Ziming, asking, "Sir, may I ask you to excuse yourself?"
"No need for that. Hurry and check your madam's injury. Are you not going to let me look at my wife?"
Ji Ziming frowned. His gaze was so frightening that the doctor and nurse did not dare to say another word.
"Yes, sir. I will go treat the madam now."
The doctor turned around again. Since the man refused to leave, he could only hope that he would not interfere while he was treating her.
"Sir, since you are unwilling to leave, then please wait on the sofa. I am going to cut open the madam's clothes, so please take a few steps back."
The doctor, who had already recovered from his fear of arriving late just then, regained the dependable and sincere disposition that a doctor should have. The reason he asked the man to leave the room was for the latter not to feel heartache regarding the stuff he might do to Pei Ge.
"Alright, I'll wait over there. Hurry and look at my wife's injury."
Although Ji Ziming felt heartache, he knew that he should not interfere or stop with the doctor and nurse's work. Otherwise, he would just be pushing the woman into more danger.
"Okay, sir."
The doctor nodded. He assessed Pei Ge's situation with a somber and heavy expression.
"Xiao Fang, go get the scissors. I have to cut the madam's clothes open."
The doctor ordered the nurse.
"Yes."
The little nurse retrieved the scissors from the box beside her. She looked at the black evening gown their patient was wearing with envy. The material was very exquisite. It should be the latest design by Gucci.
If not for the excessive blood on the bed sheet, the nurse would want to confirm if this was from the Neon series she had seen before.
"Help the madam turn over with her back facing us."
The doctor put on a pair of white latex gloves and looked at his patient calmly. Having dealt with a number of high-profile patients before, he did not flinch that this woman was Ji Ziming's wife.
The scissors glided over her exquisite clothes and split them open. Pei Ge's fair and white skin, with the bloody wound on it, was instantly exposed. Inhaling in shock, it was only then that the doctor knew that the patient's injury was more serious than what he had previously assumed. It even posed a threat to her life.
The air was filled with the scent of blood. Ji Ziming sat on the sofa, paralyzed. He could only sit there calmly and force himself to be stiller and calmer than ever. Only because this person was the woman he loved the most.
As the doctor started helping Pei Ge clean the wound, his mind seemed to play like a movie. It slowly showed their past, from their first meeting to the present, from how they were enemies at the beginning to how they slowly fell in love with each other. He could no longer leave her. He could no longer live without her. She was a presence akin to sunlight to him.
If there was no more sunlight, then the plants would no longer give off fresh air.
pαndα`noνɐ1~сoМ He closed his eyes and held his breath in. The wait for the doctor's treatment was too long. It felt as if a century had passed. Even more memories of her smile appeared in his mind. Her radiant smile made him wish that he could hug her tightly right now. They did not need to go anywhere. All they needed was to have each other. Just be together silently.
Once the doctor was finally done dressing Pei Ge's wound, the little nurse changed out the bed sheet. The old cover, which was stained with her blood, was heartlessly thrown to the floor. Still, the iron smell in the room remained heavy.
"Sir, the madam is fine now."
The doctor took off his mask, walked over to the man, and informed him of this respectfully.
Ji Ziming's mind was still stuck at the time Pei Ge got into an accident at the aquarium. He was by her side then, but he failed to protect her, too.
"Sir, the madam is no longer in any danger."
Seeing that the man still had his eyes closed and showed no signs of opening them any time, an ominous feeling rose in the doctor's heart. He quickly moved up to the man, and just as he was about to press on his philtrum, the latter suddenly popped his eyes open.
"Your madam is fine now?"
His voice was cold and hoarse. It was as though he had gone through something. He even emitted the feeling of vicissitudes.
"Yes, sir, but the madam has lost a lot of blood, so she must rest properly. We can't disturb her sleep. It's best if she has a quiet place to rest. I've prescribed her with some medicine and will have someone send it over later."
The doctor smiled reassuringly. The patient's condition was too queer. Luckily, it had been handled in time; it was just that the treatment was delayed a bit, so she would have to sleep for a little longer.
"Alright. Now, tell me why your madam became like that."
Ji Ziming stood up. His stature was much taller than the doctor's, but the former did not care. He only followed the man to the balcony.
The scenery was beautiful—the best, in fact. However, with his most loved and cherished person lying unconscious in bed, the man did not feel light-hearted at all. Downstairs, the number of guests in the banquet did not decrease because of their departure but increased, instead.
"Sir, may I ask if the madam wore another gown before wearing this one?" asked the doctor softly. That light-yellow powder he had found on the woman was not something easily obtained. Even with his connections, he would be unable to get a third of that.
"Yes. She wore a white evening gown before. As the zipper was uncomfortable, she changed into this black one."
Ji Ziming frowned tightly. He pondered over the doctor's words and felt very worried inside. If the person hiding in the shadows could even mess with Pei Ge's clothes, he did not know what else that person could do. It was something that she would not expect and he could not prevent.
"Then, that is it. Sir, I'd like to offer you a suggestion. Check anyone who has touched the madam's clothes. That powder I found in the madam's wound is no ordinary drug."
"You're saying that it's powder…"
Ji Ziming's heart jumped. He should not have let her be and force herself. He should not have left her alone.
