Chapter 405: Altaria vs Dragonite

“Battle, begin!”

“Whoosh~~~”

A blaze of bluish-purple flames immediately erupted from Altaria’s mouth, igniting the air as if setting it aflame and adding a palpable pressure to the battle!

Dragon Breath!

This time, no one expected Terrance to be so merciless, launching the first attack right from the start!

Was there a difference in treatment between female Trainers and male Trainers?

Quagsire let out a cry, its beady eyes unable to shrink any further. Dragging its plump body, it obeyed its Trainer’s command, countering the Dragon Breath with a Mud Bomb.

With its slick, three-toed hands, it hurled a brownish-colored mud ball directly at the incoming Dragon Breath. But with a loud “Bang”, Quagsire took a small step back. Even its Trainer looked on in shock as the Mud Bomb was devoured by the attack, stunned by the sight.

Boom!!

The raging flames of the Dragon Breath completely consumed the Mud Bomb and continued toward Quagsire, leaving them utterly panicked. The sheer power of this Dragon Breath… It was terrifying.

“Quagsire, use Amnesia quickly!”

Sensing danger, the Trainer, seeing that Quagsire couldn’t dodge, immediately gave the command to strengthen itself!

Amnesia could enhance Quagsire’s resistance against the Dragon Breath. As the ruthless flames swallowed the Mud Bomb and then engulfed Quagsire itself, everyone thought it might just manage to survive. Yet when the smoke from the massive explosion cleared, the sight of Quagsire’s glazed-over beady eyes emerged… The second Trainer on the arena stared blankly, silently retrieving their Poké Ball. It was utterly demoralizing.

Scarlet announced the battle’s outcome in a routine manner, but many of the Trainers present were starting to doubt themselves. Two people….two people had already been defeated with a single move! Was Terrance and his Altaria really that powerful?

A one-shot KO!

The battle had only reached its second match, yet the venue grew noticeably quieter. Although they weren’t directly battling Terrance, the Trainers who stepped up were still part of the group challenging him, and just that alone significantly diminished their enthusiasm.

“Altaria, Dragon Pulse!”

Terrance’s calm voice spread across the venue. This command—how many times had he already issued it?

Ice Beam, Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse…

No matter the opponent, no Pokémon could emerge unscathed from a single attack by Altaria!

“Unbelievable. He’s even stronger than a year ago,” Akin was startled.

“He’s still holding back…” Kotoko couldn’t express her emotions. She didn’t believe that this seemingly well-trained Altaria was weaker than the explosive Arcanine to such a drastic extent. The only possibility was that Terrance’s opponent was too weak, allowing Terrance and Altaria to defeat them using such a half-hearted manner!

“Number 7 Trainer, please quickly take the stage,” Scarlet called, frowning as he looked around the crowd. No one?

Terrance and Altaria stood calmly in the arena, waiting for the seventh challenger to appear. But as time passed, it became clear—no one was stepping forward.

Wow!

Finally, the realization hit: someone had forfeited.

After witnessing Terrance and Altaria effortlessly sweep through six Trainers, someone had lost their fighting spirit and decided not to battle!

“Hmph! Coward.”

At that moment, a young man stood up, raising his number card. “I’m number 8. Since the seventh Trainer forfeited, it’s my turn, right?”

“I’m Aaron from Riga City, and I’m here to defeat you!”

Aaron’s confidence radiated as he stood, a stark contrast to the previous Trainers. Many people fell into deep thought upon seeing his face. It wasn’t until he slowly entered the arena, appearing more clearly before everyone, that a question was heard:

“Aaron… Is that the Aaron, the runner-up of the Ever Grande Conference?!”

The runner-up of the Ever Grande Conference, Aaron

Many Trainers exchanged shocked glances as they recalled him. If the previous six challengers were relatively unknown, then Aaron was already somewhat famous.

Particularly memorable was Aaron’s formidable Dragon-type Pokémon, which had earned him envy from many people during the conference.

“It’s him!” The disdainful expression of the challenger who had been defeated by Terrance’s Gallade finally changed. The first six challengers weren’t even comparable to him, let alone capable of challenging this monster-like Gym Leader. But Aaron was different; he had closely observed the opponent’s performance at The Ever Grande Conference, even though he hadn’t battled him.

Aaron was incredibly strong!

Especially… his Dragonite!

…..

…..

Terrance and Aaron exchanged battle greetings, and then Aaron tossed out his Poké Ball.

“Seems like he’s a somewhat well-known Trainer?” Terrance grew more serious as he overheard the murmurs from the crowd.

“Roar—”

Until a Pokémon that resembled a dragon appeared, exuding a powerful aura. Its large, gray eyes were fixed intently on Terrance and Altaria. With a swipe of its three-clawed hand, it unleashed an intimidating roar, instantly putting Terrance on alert.

At this moment, Dragonite’s aura seemed to overshadow Altaria, who had already won six consecutive battles. Right from the start, it began to assert its dominance!

From the species perspective, Dragonite had a natural advantage over Altaria. However, Terrance’s Altaria was unique—it paid no attention to the intimidation and continued to fly around carefree.

Seeing this, Terrance suddenly smiled.

Four months ago, Altaria’s least feared type was Dragon Type. Four months later, Altaria’s most proficient type to deal with is still the Dragon Type!

In terms of type, neither Pokémon had a clear advantage. But when it came to Altaria’s dragon bloodline, Terrance had not seen any Dragon Type Pokémon with a talent exceeding Altaria’s, except for Cynthia’s Garchomp.

Perhaps that Champion from Kanto might have such a Pokémon. Perhaps the Dragon Elite from Hoenn might as well. But this Dragonite before him? Absolutely not.

As Dragonite’s short wings flapped, the battle began. Aaron wasted no time, commanding Dragonite to close in and use Dragon Claw, not giving Altaria a moment to react!

A green energy ripple condensed into a long, sharp weapon on Dragonite’s claws, which it swung with immense force. The spectators realized this might finally be an evenly matched opponent for Altaria. Perhaps, at last, they would witness a battle where Altaria was forced to use its full-strength.

“Altaria, Dragon Claw!”

Terrance, unfazed by Dragonite’s aggressive charge, instructed Altaria to counter with the same move. A bluish-purple energy ripple formed into a glowing claw as Altaria prepared to meet the attack head-on.

Two identical moves unleashed by two different Dragon-type Pokémon collided in a powerful clash!

Boom!!

Perhaps out of pride, neither Pokémon dodged, letting the two attacks crash directly into one another. Dragonite’s expression twisted into a fierce grimace, while Altaria’s eyes burned with a fierce fire. The massive shockwave swept out, accompanied by a thunderous explosion.

Aaron’s pupils contracted. Dragonite… was being overpowered?
