Chapter 202: Rivaling A Chief God, The New Master

Dragon Island was a mysterious place.
The magic elements here were ten times richer than anywhere else in Heaven’s Vault Continent, and the laws of nature here were several times clearer than anywhere else in Heaven’s Vault Continent, hence making it a superb sanctum for cultivation.
Surrounding the Dragon Island was the azure-blue ocean that stretched as far as the eye could see. Innumerable islands decorated the great ocean like stars in the sky.
There were big ones as well as small ones, but with no exception whatsoever, on all these islands lived countless Magical Beasts while in the ocean also lived various marine Magical Beasts.
The tragic thing was that all the Magical Beasts here were the Dragons’ food source. They were unable to control their own life and death, let alone their destiny.
They ultimately only had one fate, and that was to be eaten by the Colossal Dragons.
Occupying every island was a pure-blooded Colossal Dragon or a Saint Domain-level Drake. They ruled over the island, as well as the life and death of every living creature on the island.
The size of these islands was a direct reflection of the Colossal Dragon occupants’ strength, as well as their statuses in the clan.
The higher their statuses and the mightier their power, the bigger the island they occupied and the richer in variety their food was, and vice versa.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a stream of light shot across the ocean and came to the area above a large island.
A tall mountain stood erect on the island, and at the mountain’s midpoint was a cave. Thunderous snoring could be heard coming from the cave, and it traveled far and wide...
“Grandmaster!”
The golden stream of light arrived in front of the cave, and then, the person dropped to his knees—it was actually a strong and muscular Golden Colossal Dragon Person with a pair of golden horns on his head.
“Something terrible has happened, Grandmaster!”
The Golden Colossal Dragon Person sounded sad and sorrowful.
“Eh?”
There was a sudden momentary pause in the snoring in the cave. Then, right after that, a roar containing endless fury rang out.
“How dare you disturb my beauty sleep! If you don’t give me a satisfactory reason for your action today... Hmph!”
“Grandmaster, a knave has murdered the emperor and slain all the Dragon God Empire’s higher management officials!”
The Golden Colossal Dragon Person was terribly sorrowful and grieving as he went on. “All the court officials, more than 1,000 Saint Domains, innumerable officials and nobles... All of them have been wiped out...”
“What did you say?!”
A massive dragon head emerged from within the cave, endless killing intent within its eyes as it ordered, “Repeat what you just said!”
“Grandmaster, a knave has attacked the palace...”
“How audacious! How dare you deceive me!” The gigantic dragon head bellowed furiously, “The awe-inspiring name of the Dragon God Empire resounds throughout the whole of Heaven’s Vault Continent. Which knave would be so bold as to commit such a treasonous and heretic act?!”
“It’s true, Grandmaster! It really is!”
The Golden Colossal Dragon Person hastily explained. Then, he even brought out a magic crystal ball.
Displayed on the surface was a horrific scene of ten Colossal Dragon carcasses lying dead on the ground, an infinite number of ice chips and fragments littered all over the floor, and princes and princesses kneeling on the ground and sobbing bitterly.
“Who was it?! Who exactly was it that dared to kill people of the Dragon race and challenge the Dragon God Empire’s authority?!”
The gigantic dragon head roared furiously. Its roar was as though rolling thunder, frightening the Magical Beasts on the island so badly that they could only prostrate on the ground and shiver like a leaf.
“Grandmaster, that knave’s name is Meng Lei!”
“Meng Lei?”
In the Dragon God Empire palace...
“Father, you died such a terrible death!”
“Father...”
The square outside the conference hall had turned into a large-scale funeral. More than a thousand princes and princesses, tens of thousands of royal consorts, and hundreds of thousands of eunuchs and palace maids all burst into loud sobbing.
Their weeping was terribly mournful and extremely sorrowful, making anyone that heard them weep and filling anyone that saw them with sorrow. Those that didn’t know would have thought that the emperor had met his demise!
At a corner of the square, the Royal Holy Knight Order stared at the whole scene in a daze, their countenances filled with disbelief.
“How did this happen? We were only gone for two days, yet a tragedy like that has taken place in the empire?”
Abbe was also among them. She had been brought back from the Lost Continent by the Royal Holy Knight Order.
She stared quietly at the 12 dragon carcasses and all the ice chips all over the ground, her expression calm and peaceful and without any trace of joy or sorrow.
“I heard that the culprit is Meng Lei?”
The Holy Knight Order’s captain, Bruno, asked, “Your Highness, is this Meng Lei the same person that saved you in the Lost Continent?”
“I don’t know, either!”
Abbe shook her head lightly. One could barely see any traces of sorrow on her countenance.
...
“Welcome, new master of the Tower of Time!”
An aged voice rang out, upon which the misty clouds in the surroundings converged to form an easily 1,000-meters-wide gigantic human visage that stood tall and towered in the air.
“The Tower of Time? New master?”
Meng Lei stared at the gigantic human visage as a puzzled look appeared on his countenance. He asked, “Isn’t this the Dragon God Tower? Since when has it become the Tower of Time?”
“Dragon God Tower? What nonsense, this tower’s name is the Tower of Time!”
The gigantic face’s mouth opened and closed as it went on. “It was forged by the great God of Time after exhausting an infinite amount of exotic treasures, the universe’s spiritual essence, Divinity Crystals, and Divinity Stones. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Dragon God!”
“The God of Time?” A great jolt went through Meng Lei. He asked, “Who’s the God of Time?”
“The God of Time is no human; he’s one of the greatest gods in the vast universe!”
The gigantic human visage’s voice boomed as it went on. “His greatness is as though the blazing sun in the sky that shines upon the lands; like a lighthouse in the bottomless abyss that guides the path of countless deities; and also like the tall and insurmountable holy mountains that live on for all time...”
“...”
Black lines filled Meng Lei’s forehead as he asked, “So, can you tell me just how great and noble is this great and noble God of Time? In what way is he great and noble? How does he compare to the Dragon God?”
“The Dragon God? The Dragon God is nothing but sh*t!”
The gigantic human visage was awfully dissatisfied with Meng Lei’s question. “The God of Time is the one and only deity in this vast universe and infinite number of existential planes that has mastered time-based laws of nature! His Divine Status is that of a higher deity with Great Perfection-level strength. His combat power doesn’t lose out in any way to a Chief God!”
“A higher deity at Great Perfection level? One that doesn’t lose out to a Chief God?”
Meng Lei was rather confused. “A Great Perfection-level higher deity is a god, right? Then what’s a Chief God?”
“Don’t you even know something as simple as that?”
A disdainful look appeared in the gigantic human visage’s eyes as it explained, “Like how mountains vary in height and trees vary in length, as higher lifeforms, deities are also classified into different levels and differentiated by their level of strength.
“Based on their level of strength and their divinity class, they are, in ascending order, classified as lesser deities, intermediate deities, higher deities, and the ones most supreme of all and who stand above all the other deities... The Chief Gods!”
“I see!”
Meng Lei understood better now. Then, he asked, “Which class of deities does the Dragon God belong to?”
“The Dragon God? He’s just an ordinary intermediate deity. There are billions of them in the Void!”
The gigantic human visage was full of disdain as it scoffed. “He’s only impressive in an ordinary material plane. In the Void, he’s no different from a pile of sh*t!”
“...”
Meng Lei was rendered speechless. If the Dragon God was a pile of sh*t, then what was he?
“Although the God of Time is a higher deity of Great Perfection level because he has comprehended one of the supreme forms of laws of nature—time-based laws of nature—his combat power is on par with a Chief God’s.”
A look of idolization brimmed on the gigantic human visage as it said, “Thus, he is also known as the God of Time. In some places, they even address him as the Chief God of Time and place him among the ranks of the Chief Gods!”
“Is the God of Time that awesome?” gasped Meng Lei.
Then, he asked, “Just now, you said that the Dragon God Tower is something that the God of Time had exhausted an infinite amount of time and effort to forge, right? Why is it in a place like this, then? And has even become the Dragon God Tower?”
“I’ll correct you once more—this is the Tower of Time, not some sh*tty, nonsensical Dragon God Tower!”
The gigantic human visage glared at Meng Lei before it answered, “The reason why the Tower of Time is here is that it ended up crossing turbulent time-space currents after the God of Time’s demise and ultimately became lost in this plane until the Dragon God subsequently obtained it!”
“Demise? The God of Time is dead?” Meng Lei was astonished. “Didn’t you claim that the God of Time’s combat power rivals that of a Chief God? Why did he meet his demise? Who was capable enough to kill him?”
“Mortal, you ask too many questions!” The gigantic human visage’s expression suddenly turned icy-cold. “Snooping into a deity’s secrets isn’t a good habit!”
“Fine!”
Meng Lei curled his lip disdainfully, secretly thinking to himself, “This fellow sure has a pretty bad temper!”
“Just now, you said that I’ve become the Dragon God T— Cough, the Tower of Time’s new master. What do you mean by that?”
Meng Lei was rather puzzled. “Where’s the Dragon God? Isn’t he the Tower of Time’s master?”
“No, no, no! The Dragon God has never once been the Tower of Time’s master—although he wishes even in his dreams that he could be.”
The gigantic human visage gave a resolute negative answer to that.
“The Dragon God has merely temporarily borrowed the Tower of Time due to his advantage in proximity to it when it was lost in this plane.
“During this long passage of time, it wasn’t just once that the Dragon God—that weak, little intermediate deity—had attempted to refine the Tower of Time in order to claim ownership over it and become its new master.
“But evidently, he has never once succeeded, and neither will he ever. All these are just his wishful thinking!”
“But the Dragon God is an intermediate deity, right? Even someone like him couldn’t refine the Tower of Time?”
Meng Lei was astounded. “By what virtue was I able to become the Tower of Time’s new master?”
“The great God of Time had left a holy decree before his fall—only those who possess magic talent for the five elements—Thunder, Fire, Wind, Light, and Dark—and successfully reach the highest level before they turn 30 years old can become the Tower of Time’s new master.”
The gigantic human visage’s mouth opened and closed as it explained, “You’re 16 years old this year. You’ve successfully reached this place. And you’ve exhibited magic talent for said five elements during your tower-climbing process. Therefore, you completely fulfill the conditions of inheritance.”
“Aren’t those conditions a little too demanding?”
Meng Lei was completely dumbfounded.
Reaching the top level before one turned 30-years-old was, by itself, already something that wasn’t quite possible, let alone be someone that possessed magic talent for those five elements.
Stacking these two conditions together practically made this a hell-mode challenge. Who would be able to meet such standards?
“It’s precisely because it’s demanding that you’re the only one who managed to achieve it during the last 40,000-odd years!”
Then, the gigantic human visage shook its head and commented, “In truth, that little fellow from 10,000 years ago would have also succeeded, but that dog—the Dragon God—had ordered him killed!”
“10,000 years ago? Could it be Timon Barton?”
Meng Lei narrowed his eyes slightly as he remarked, “So he has indeed been disposed of by the Dragons! What a bunch of shameless people!”
“That’s very normal. The Dragon God has been racking his brains to usurp the Tower of Time, so how would he possibly allow others to lay claim to it?”
The gigantic human visage sneered and said, “Didn’t you run into him just now, too? If you hadn’t been strong enough, you would also have been killed by him and perished mid-way.”
“The Dragon God! I’ll remember him!”
Meng Lei clenched his fists as a hint of murderous intent flashed across his eyes. “Just you wait...”
“Alright! We can talk about the matter of revenge in the future!”
Then, the gigantic human visage said calmly, “Let me ask you this—are you willing to inherit the Tower of Time and become its new master?”
Meng Lei was silent for a moment before he said, “Before that, you must first answer a question of mine!”
“Say it!”
“What are the advantages and disadvantages of inheriting the Tower of Time?”
A shrewd glint flashed across Meng Lei’s eyes as he said, “Be clear about the pros and cons first, and then I’ll consider whether or not I want to inherit the Tower of Time.”
“The Tower of Time is a high-tier divine weapon that stores all the God of Time’s wealth and assets. At the same time, it also contains the God of Time’s legacy.
“The most important thing is that the Tower of Time possesses the cultivation method for time-based laws of nature.
“These are the benefits!
“The downside is that you’ll offend a bigwig after you inherit the Tower of Time!”
“Great! There are totally no issues since you made things clear. I’m willing to become the Tower of Time’s new master!”
“Congratulations, mortal!”
