Chapter 1087: Additional Mission

To predict what would happen today, one only needed to look into history.

If one carefully compared the cat torture incident this time with the cat torture incident in the middle centuries, it would be easy to find some similarities between the two.

The statue in their shop was modeled after the original one in the British Museum, but was there only one original statue? There was only one such statue, and the humans were so lucky as to dig it up? Would anyone believe these kinds of odds?

The more logical explanation was that there was actually more than one of these Holy Cat statues, and that a thousand years ago, Europeans had dug one up. They had then dug up another at the beginning of the 20th century and placed it in the British Museum.

According to the olden text The Voices of Rome, the first Holy Cat statue was a little luckier. It didn’t meet Vladimir and successfully gained life from being just a lifeless statue. The only things that were unclear were how much it had gained and whether it had completely broken free of its copper body.

The church had definitely never seen something that paranormal and nearly sh*t their pants. This led them to implement a solution that was way too extreme—they wanted to exterminate all of the cats in Europe, not knowing that was exactly what the Holy Cat statue wanted.

The tragedy wasn’t only happening to cats.

Due to the extensive influence of the church and the amazing prowess of their executive abilities, they near-completely extinguished all cats from Europe. But due to that, there were not enough cats around to hunt rats, and with how unhygienic they were, rats soon overran the streets. The fleas on the rats ended up spreading the Black Death, and the Europeans had to suffer a great consequence.

Millions of lives were lost, and the world became a living hell then. The Black Death killed almost half of Europe’s population and changed Europe’s history. It inevitably weakened the church’s influence on Europe too. Who knew what would have become of Europe if this hadn’t happened?

This war had caused casualties in both the church and cats, and the rats and fleas ended up as the winners instead.

But the thing that Zhang Zian was more interested in knowing was how they had dealt with the living statue. Even without Vladimir and its Iron Meow Meow Doctrine Fist, the Holy Cat statue was still eliminated in the end. But by whom?

That was surely a question to ponder.

The church had had great power back then, definitely on par with the royal family. The church must have had their own share of talented and strong individuals, one of whom might have been an expert in killing demons. Maybe it was these Christians who had destroyed the German extremists, ending the previous Holy Cat statue’s life and ruining the statue.

They thought that everything would be fine after they destroyed it and that there would no longer be problems. They would have never thought that thousands of years later, a similar thing would happen yet again.

When Fina brought this up, it clearly wasn’t to help Zhang Zian revise his history knowledge.

The similarity between the two was that humans were the ones that dug up the Holy Cat Statue.

After Zhang Zian gave it a thought, he understood but wanted to clarify. “You mean...”

“Some things should just remain buried forever,” Fina declared.

Zhang Zian asked, “You’re saying we should dig a hole and bury it, not allowing it to come into contact with any humans? Bury it where? How deep? Is it okay if it’s the grass patch?”

Fina nodded its head before shaking it. “We should bury it. But we can’t just do it anywhere.”

Zhang Zian thought so too. It would be dangerous to bury it anywhere in the city. Someone might just dig it up again one day if they needed to build something or repair the subway lines... Even if they wanted to bury it, they had to find somewhere with few people.

“Then where would be suitable?” he asked, running through all the possible places nearby that people didn’t go to and that wouldn’t be moved for a long time.

“Not anywhere common. We can only bury it in a place where many gods are protecting it,” Fina ordered.

“A place where many gods are protecting it?”

The moment he heard that, he knew this wouldn’t be simple.

“Yes. Right in the middle of the pyramids. Let the gods of Egypt look over it.” Fina’s words nearly made his jaw drop.

Zhang Zian deadpanned, “I’m not hearing wrongly, right? You’re saying that I should bring the Holy Cat statue to Egypt and bury it in the pyramids? The great pyramids in Egypt? Not the one in the Louvre Museum? Well, even if it’s the Louvre Museum, it’ll be difficult.”

Fina nodded. “Not just the big pyramids—any another one should work.”

Zhang Zian had no idea anymore. This mission was really too difficult. Even though Egypt had discovered more than 110 pyramids, all of them were protected. It would be insanely difficult to smuggle the Holy Cat statue in and leave it there permanently.

“What are your opinions?” he asked the other elfins.

Old Time Tea hummed, “I feel that even though it’s difficult, it’s worth giving it a try. Even if it doesn’t work, we’re not losing anything. We just brought a few extra things on the way to Egypt.”

Zhang Zian groaned. This wasn’t as simple as bringing a few extra things. Such a heavy piece of statue would definitely be expensive to ship by plane! Plus, Professor Wei Kang’s exploration team probably wouldn’t cover these expenses under their budget...

Vladimir didn’t care for these gods whatsoever and didn’t think those gods could protect it, but it didn’t want to waste its time protecting the statue in the shop. It had so many more important things to do.

So it curled its front paw tightly into a fist. “We should eliminate our escaping enemies and not let them off easily!” it declared. “If you all think it’s alright, then I do too. Majority rules, after all! As long as we eliminate all of the evils and never let them harm the world ever again!”

Famous agreed to the plan too, since this was the only way left. It would be a lot better to bring the evil statue to Egypt than to leave it by their side. If it really didn’t work, they could just bring it back.

As for the other elfins, there was really no point in asking them.

“Oh, right. What do you mean, ‘On the way to Egypt?’ You’re going to Egypt?” Vladimir asked Old Time Tea, curious.

Zhang Zian replied for Old Time Tea. “Yup, we’d been too busy previously, and it wasn’t time to leave yet, so we hadn’t had the opportunity to tell you. We’re going to Egypt with a team of scientists. It was supposed to be an easy and fun trip, but now we have a mission to accomplish. Vladimir, do you want to come with us?”

If Wei Kang heard something like this, he might just vomit blood.

“Egypt...” Vladimir hummed, thinking.

Zhang Zian gave it ample time to think about it, not rushing it into anything.

Quickly, it raised one front paw, waving it about determinedly and exclaiming passionately, “Of course I’m going! Even though the strays in Binhai City already have great lives, two-thirds of cats in the world are still suffering, waiting for us to liberate them! Asia, Africa, Europe, America, Japan! We’ll erect our flag all over the world!”
